yes indeed. firstly it's because I don't have a specific room in my workshop to apply varnish, so there is flying dusts even if I spray water in the air before varnishing. I have to varnish quickly before putting the bass in a UV cabin (where it is safe from dust). To varnish the ribs before the rest allow me to not expose it too many time from the dust while the varnish is fresh. Secondly I use my own oil varnish and it is suck by the edges when it's fresh even if I pull it a lot. I will always have a little dark extra thickness beetwen my edges and the ribs and sometimes I also have a white line before this extra thickness (it is soft but I like to have the maximum aspect control). Hope my english is understandable enought :)
