Okay I am a bit confused. I am totally new to this side of the health care industry. As a person who has no money or time to go the traditional route for certification, I am attempting to do the self- study route. What is the first textbook I should purchase in regards to coding? I am interested in coding for physician's offices/clinics.
Adanze Ofoegbu I don't know if you still need advice. I purchased the AMA Principles of CPT Coding 9th ed. , AMA Principles of ICD 10 CM Coding and workbook 4th edition from CHEGG.com. I am borrowing the AMA 2017 CPT Professional Codebook and the 2018 ICD-10-CM Expert Codebook from the billling/coding dept at my job.
You will also have to pay to become an AAPC member and pay for the certification exam after you have finished studying. You could also try the online Medical Billing and coding program through Ashworth college. You can pay as little as $50 a month. The program is approximately $900.

I've heard that the program at Ashworth is not accredited, do you know if that's true?

Is this the CPT 2017 book you are using? Because in my CPT 2017 book, Code 11046 is mentioned as out of numerical sequence.
This seems almost easier than billing? 🤔 just looking up codes and assigning
