I love how on SJA, Sarah Jane was usually preaching "Killing is always wrong", except for the Slitheen, which would usually get blown up and had their insides smeared all over the protaginists for comic relief.
In fairness, that was often done solely as a last resort.
It also makes a literal killer sea canon to their planet@@someguy3752
Yeah i always found it weird how alien gore is always treated as comic relief but human gore is not for kids and is reserved for the r rated shows
Remember, kids, killing is bad but alien guts are LOL
@@jakequaza3567I guess it's because unlike humans and animals, aliens don't exist (at least ones anywhere near as intelligent and advanced as in Sci-Fi).
And especially with the slitheen because they look nothing like humans either except for standing upright so it's treated differently. The Slitheen initially being used just for comic relief helps too.
It’s really interesting that Raxicorucofallipatorians are established as a peaceful race with a few bad eggs since the majority of Doctor Who villains are just evil races, like Daleks, Cybermen and Gelth. It’s a breath of fresh air to see that.
I've always found this odd: humans are the only sapient species we know, and in real life and in fiction they are equally capable of good or evil. Why then do sci-fi and fantasy writers largely restrict all other species into a uniform moral alignment? Why are all hobbits good and all orcs evil?
We don't know much about the Gelth as a species, so you could easily retcon The Unquiet Dead as being simply a bad group in a species that's mostly neutral
So much history, continuity, and lore surrounding them.
And they will always be remembered as "The Farting Aliens"
Good metaphor for pop culture in general tbh
The Slitheen are the most under rated new who villians. I love them and they don't deserve the hate the get. Sure the farting thing was childish but it was done for a kids show, added some comedy into the stories featuring them and it was something also unique to the Slitheen.
The are an iconic design and imo should be recurring again not just series 1. And SJA.
I'd prefer rhe Sycorax return first as they also have more potential
Sure, they fart. But they look great, the concept is brilliant, and the 2 parter is a brilliant 24 style thriller that massively showed how much new who was capable of. I hate fans.
Can you imagine having a vinegar sea when a little jar of vinegar literally makes you explode? That's just straight up eldritch monster territory. A giant body of liquid that murders anyone who touches it.
That’s what I didn’t understand, did he not say they could swim to the islands or did I pick that up wrong?
@@mgthestrange9098 Also the fact they drink the living soup that is mainly acetic acid based...
@@GT6398 true, wouldn’t it dissolve their insides unless liquid alien, not going to try to spell the species, neutralises it.
Actually, maybe they wear a protective suit to swim. 🤔
@@alexrusselldev I can't imagine a vinegar sea is natural for a planet that managed to evolve species incredibly sensitive to vinegar. Maybe it's like the Aral Sea only a hundred times worse, being the result of a massive environmental cataclysm
"Vinegar sea" "giant arms for swimming"
Something doesnt seem right
I think they're amazing New Who aliens akin to the Weeping Angels, Silents, The Wire virus, Vashta Nerada, Midnight/Listen creature or 'floof', The Dreamlord pollen and Ood.
It always scared me the fact these creatures KILLED A CHILD, Presumably RIPPED OUT THE CORPSE'S BONES, ORGANS AND OTHER ESSENTIALS just for the child slitheen to use as it's skin.
The Slitheen did this to a 14 year old teenage schoolboy named Carl in Revenge of the Slitheen however he was killed offscreen so it isn’t known when in the story out of all his appearances he was alive or deceased as his skin suit was discarded at the end of part 1 however it was implied he met the same fate as Mr Jeffrey who was killed onscreen by the claw to forehead approach.
As the Slitheen are known for eating meat it’s likely his bones, organs, muscles, tissues and blood were consumed during the emptying process, another child being younger aged 12 Nathan Goss was killed offscreen with his parents in The Lost Boy and all 3 used as disguises.
I can imagine the Slitheen family teaming up with and being double-crossed by Sil if Doctor Who ever decides to bring back both.
And if the series won't do that...
...the fans can - especially with the figures (many fan created stop-motion figure stories are Fantastic)
12:59 Vibe checking a Weeping Angel with your mean right hook is boss ngl.
I want to see a Big Finish story where we meet a heroic and kind Blon Fel-Fotch
I think they should bring the Slitheen back, sort of, but not really. They should have a story where The Doctor actually goes to Raxacoricofalapatorious, where they ask him to solve a murder mystery or something. Have him suspect the Slitheen, but then it’s someone completely different.
I’m interested in hearing more about the weeping Angel fact at the end, like that’s an incredibly impressive feat, when was it done and how?
I would love the slitheen to return one last time in doctor who. Pure nostalgia.
I want an adventure on the Slitheen homeworld
absolutely incredible video - how many takes did you need to nail all those alien names?
The Slitheen Families should become more famed for absurd business schemes
You managed to get all those names pronounced correctly - and yet you've clearly never heard "acetic" said out loud before.
LOL
This is the Harbo way
I wish we could see some good Raxacoricofallapatorians in the show at some point. They may be established as largely peaceful, but the only members we have met are from criminal families.
Bro... I think that you forgot to mention the
"Legacy of the Slitheen" Ninth Doctor Audio Story... Yknow....
The One with The "Great Mother" and
Den Folilo...
I think Chronologically in Doctor Who canon it takes place in between The Doctor Dances and Boom Town.
Great Review tho! I love it! 👍😏
I always loved the Slitheen. Kind of used as a joke in SJA but the original episodes with Ecleston are really good.
That five minutes in the middle must be what the normies hear when we nerds start talking about lore. I get it now.
Vinegar seas? The very thing that kills them?
It's like they watched the movie Signs and learnt all the wrong lessons from it.
To say it was the kids version of Doctor Who, The Sarah Jane Adventures skinned two kids in series 1. At least it was off-screen...Torchwood would not have been that kind to us.
This video would make a leathal Raxacoricofallapatorius drinking game.
I never thought I’d watch a whole video about the history of fictional farting aliens yet here I am
Hopefully clom has been purged by the daleks
Both child Slitheen and adult slitheen when making the skin suit disguise what happens to all the human insides such as the bones and organs as for example in the Sarah Jane Adventures in the episode Revenge of the Slitheen Mr Jeffrey is killed onscreen by the claw to forehead approach and a few minutes later a slitheen in his skin and the same for Carl a 14 year old teenage schoolboy who was killed by a child Slitheen offscreen when his skin suit was discarded nothing inside it so it’s interesting how they dealt with them or if they are consumed by the slitheen
Drinking game: take a drink any time he says a word that ends with -een
Thank you such a detailed video i didnt know a lot of this lore
They became forgotten
Phew! I bet you had to have a nice cup of tea and a sit down after that. ☕️
This whole video has me dying of laughter haha. It's 100% bonkers.
you get my like for being able to say all the names
How does a Slitheen wipe its bum?
Very, very carefully.
Explain what the doctor is sort of, aware whilst regeneration? Please
I thought you had way more than 51k subs
and the zygon invasion/inversion?
Whoa whoa whoa you cant just gloss over a slitheen decapitateing a weeping angel
Wait, how could they Swim if their ocean was vinegar?
Same. How come its their weakness but yet its part of their home world. I think he meant it for a specific region not the whole planet but it still sounds confusing.
is nobody going to mention that raxus prime is a planet in star wars
I wouldn't say they're hated. They're better than every chibnall alien
But the expanded media did a good job with them
sorry about this , and all you have to do if want to watch it at is , just type Astro Heroes the man i used to be in the search bar and it should come up, I'm really sorry about this harbo wholmes , your videos are cool. I'm really sorry!
The slitheen may not be great
This video is just pickle juice.
6:14 there was also the Hocheen, who appeared in the fanmade RUclips series 'Roblox Doctor Who' who are just Slitheen but Brown. Their canonicity is very thin, because they came from a fan series, they are not documented on the Tardis wiki.
Pull the lever on the Tardis console and give yourself a biscuit. You certainly earned that treat after your Master-ful pronouciation of all those names. Well done 👍...
10:34 onwards is just too funny to listen to.
