You are very right Nikki! We always tell people to look to adoption or rescue before going to a breeder. You would be surprised how many even pure breed dogs are in shelters and rescues! We have done both rescue and buying from Responsible, Reputable breeders. If people were just more responsible when breeding, and actually didn't' breed the dogs who have genetic defects we would have healthier dogs in general, but so many people have accidental litters, or breed because they think it's fun. It's a sad situation.
I think it's great to adopt dogs that need homes, but nobody should be tearing anyone down for getting their dog from a reputable breeder. It's not your right to tell other people what to do with their money. It's also not just purebred dogs that suffer from inherit issues and diseases. My last dog was a mix that I rescued who was very sick with a congenital defect, and I ended up having to put him down at 4 years old. What we really need to do is raise awareness of boycotting puppy mills so that we can put a stop to their abuse of dogs and mass production of litters.
It's not right what to tell people to do with their money, but it's also not right for innocent dogs and cats to be killed because of selfish human beings that only want purebreds. There are A TON of really well-behaved and loving dogs that die because no one cares for them. Breeding animals should be illegal - period! These animals are not toys, they are LIVES - innocent lives at that - and all are equally deserving of a loving and caring home.
Irresponsible breeding should be illegal. It isn't reputable breeders who are contributing to the population of pets without homes. While there are purebred dogs in shelters, a majority of shelter dogs are mixed breeds that have resulted from irresponsible breeding and ownership. Many people seek out reputable breeders because they need a working dog who has a long lineage of working parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents.
North, your statement is pure ignorance. You have absolutely NO idea what your talking about. It's almost comical. Don't bother replying, I will not debate with such stupidity.
North Guard Wow. You really need to do some research! You are totally right in that animals are in shelters because of selfish people but the finger of blame falls squarely on those people who don't spay or neuter their pets! Uncontrolled breeding is to blame for shelter animals. Stopping breeding period is idiotic because unless you fix every existing dog and cat out there, breeding will continue but from progressively smaller gene pools. Purebred dogs and cats species would die out completely and frankly that sounds like a much grimmer situation. Overpopulation happens because people let their unfixed dogs off leash, happy to do so because "they listen and will come back when called", or have unfixed outdoor cats. What do you think happens when these animals roam the neighborhood? They do what is instinctual to them, which is to mate. In fact, a pair of breeding cats and their offspring can produce 420,000 kittens over a seven year period! That is ONE BREEDING PAIR! Now imagine the repercussions of thousands of cats doing this! Just because you have a fenced in yard, doesn't protect your dog from breeding or being bred.. all you need is a hole in the fence and looking away for a moment for it to happen! Stop blaming breeders because its the easiest group to point the finger at. If you haven't gotten your pet fixed and don't intend on control breeding them, you are an irresponsible pet owner and the blood of all those innocent shelter cats and dogs is shared on your hands too.
Jenn Kivisto Neither of my two dogs have been spayed or neutered, and neither of which have mated, but now I'm an irresponsible pet owner and it's partially my fault that kill shelters are over stocked because I chose not to gut their organs? You make a great argument there, genius.

Good For you. I rescued a dog that saved my life. I have four children, was working ridiculous hours making the man his money while I bobbed up and down in the middle of a lake. I doubt he'd even toss me a life jacket. We had a great yard for a dog, however we, more like I said that 75% of the kids are to the age where pets don't have the same appeal and it would fall upon me to take care of it and I really did not want the responsibility. What little free time I had was devoted to inside chores that my other half neglected, outside chores, I did ALL the cooking and I didn't need all the responsibility that went along with being a responsible pet owner. I eliminated the kids from the equation as slowly they were getting older and leaving so it all fell onto my shoulders. But then one day I decided to stop by the animal shelter and take a look. I didn't want a puppy. Not interested in training an animal plus there are times when it's going to be home alone for extended periods of time so I needed an older, house trained dog, IF I was to get one. Every dog there looked to be in great health and shape but one so I inquired about that one which is my nature. They said its' scheduled to be put down in 2 weeks because of it's breed they can only feed each dog so much food per day and it is nowhere close to meeting it's daily requirements so it is slowly starving to death. I just about died and my heart sunk. I was looking at a dog next to it when I felt it lick my hand. I stood up and it was sitting about 10 feet back on it's little raised pad just looking at me.I could not let it die, I would not be able to live with myself. I called the wife and told her where to meet me and the newest addition to our family. Since that day, the dog has put on 60 pounds to it's normal weight, I had almost life ending illnesses to which he became a SERVICE DOG and has routinely saved my life and he is a Black Lab mix and now is worth far more than any other papered or pure bread dog out there. He is eager to learn and they all said one of the easiest to teach, PLUS, they said the majority of all their best dogs come from the shelter. Keep doing what you are doing, it's for a great cause and they make a huge difference. If I wouldn't have stopped that day, I would not be here now to share this awesome story bout an abused, abandoned, beaten dog who chose me and I couldn't say no.......
Nikki, thank you for adopting and being pro-adoption! SO many of those animals have been abused or have been born to owners who don't want them, so more people need to adopt from shelters. I've seen a brother and sister pair of cats who both didn't have any eyes. It was because they were abused and/or someone did something sick to them. It's animals like that who need our help, even healthy ones, too.
I work at a shelter, and I am of course "pro-adoption," but I also own show rabbits, am a fancy mouse breeder and am not against breeding animals in the slightest, so long as the breeder is ethical, responsible, has a good reason for breeding and is not in it for the money. I also am not against humane euthanasia. I agree there is an overpopulation problem but without good breeders with the intent of bettering the species, we wouldn't even have the domestic animals that we know and love. I love discussing this topic though, and try not to get angry because I know that if I'm having this conversation, the people I'm talking with are good people. If you care about animals enough to discuss it than you are worth talking to. You are a very good hearted person Nikki.
I usually don't comment but today I am. I look up to you guys so much!! I love that you first of all don't support breeders and you adopt from shelters. Secondly I love that you are helping the community and spending your days helping others. Thank you for everything and I love you all
I have always had a great fond for rescuing animals. When you adopt a rescue animal they have the best personality.I have 5 rescue animals.2 pit-bulls one of them are pure breed and the other is a pit-bull mix.1 Morkie pure breed.2 cats that are mixes.
It may not actually be the bottle! Sometimes people don't change the nipples on the bottles as the babies grow cause they don't know! but the speed on the nipples like the hole in the nipples get bigger as they grow which makes the flow faster, so if she's still on the slow nipple on the bottle she could just be getting aggravated that the flow isn't coming out fast enough!
OMG! There's actually people out there who are against adopting rescue animals? WTH!? Their argument that "if animals weren't bred regularly they'd all be sick" is very redundant since pure bred animals are basically inbred and after many generations of breeding there's TONS of birth defects which is very alarming. I find pure breeding kind of sickening myself... I'm the exact same Nikki, I obsess over everything if it bothers me haha! I totally get you! But you totally won that argument, there's no logic coming from the other people's side... All their points sound very ignorant and not based off of research and facts. On a lighter note, do your cats actually sleep on those beds?? Anytime I get my kitty a cat bed she opts for a pile of newspapers or a box instead haha.
I love your vlogs! You are such a cute, happy family and I wish you all the best of luck for the future! Your fans will always be behind you! Love from the UK!❤️
I like your channel even more since the arrival of Iris. You guys haven't changed much at all. Just two cool people with a kid. I had to unsub your friends channel because they're just so different after having their child. Anyway... you guys rock!!! :)
Don't worry about those types of people Nicki. they live in their own ignorance worlds. which is a throwaway world. there are a lot of people like that unfortunately otherwise the shelters would not be full and all the children would have great homes be fed and have a safe place to sleep and a loving family. so don't let them get to you when you do in their mind they win so if you just left them off it makes them mad. Because in your heart you know you're right.
Nikki don't let ignorant people get to you, itz like my grandma always says.......better there be one crazy person and not two. Love u guys and omg baby Iris is so cute, towards the end of the vlog when she yells....that made me smile, reminded me of when my kids were that age.
Who the heck would have a go at Nikki for rescuing animals? I 100% agree with Nikki that so many sweet and loving animals are waiting to be adopted. Why go to a breeder when so many animals need homes in shelters? Adopting is a wonderful thing to do.
Not that my opinion's relevant, but I think if you want to adopt, it's a wonderful thing to do! And if you want to get a pet from a breeder then do it because they're also animals that need loving homes. We need to stop trying to rule each other with our opinions.
I got my dog from a breeder. He's a European German Shepherd. He's not a purebred so people can't say you're just getting purebred from people who breed dogs. I love my dog just as much as anyone loves their dog. I'm for people adopting animals but people should keep those kind of opinions to themselves. It kind of bother me since I feel I'm in the wrong for going and getting a dog that wasn't from an animal shelter. I wouldn't have the dog that I love so very much today if I went to an animal shelter. I completely understand what Nikki was saying. Those people were so rude to her and shouldn't be calling her dumb when they were clearly the dumb ones. Also you can rescue animals from people who are selling them. I have a cat that almost died when we got him. He is completely healthy now.
What my sister did when her baby wouldn't take a bottle anymore is she would lay the baby back and using her fingers to squeeze the nipple of the bottle and milk would go in to her mouth... John might find it easier to do that or to just buy a bottle that is almost exactly the same as breast feeding... Their not overly expensive either👍 I hope this helps!
We got our dog from a woman down the street, her daughter brought the dog (lothí, a beautiful friendly Lurcher terrier mix) to my estate, and lothí really seemed to like my sister, so the lady asked my sister does she want her because the owner is moving to a non pet area, my dad agreed and the next day we went to pick her up. ee got to the house and no one was home, there was no front or back garden and the house was tiny. We could hear lothí whining inside. The owner got home and she let us in, the house was even smaller inside, no house for a dog, it smelled like dog pee and it was filthy. The dog herself was a wreck, she was covered in fleas and she had bald patches where she had been biting. Her fur was stained yellow from her own waste, she was so skinny and her legs were red with rashes. She was obviously never walked as the pads on her paws were so so soft, it hurt her to walk. We took her to the vet and he said she was dehydrated and gave us medication for all her problems. Now 5 years later, Lothí is a happy healthy dog, shes happy to see everyone and is good security. She gets walked and fed daily and we treat her fur every month to prevent fleas, we have two big gardens and a nice big estate field where she can run around. No animal should live like she did. NO animal.
I have adopted most of my animals, the only one is my cat j who we found underneath our porch at 4 weeks old and now she is almost 6 months old, and im glad we saved her
I think that you don't have to prove that you help animals to anyone, because it's pretty evident that you do. I've been watching your videos for at least four years, and I know that you've helped and you help animals, and God bless you for that. Don't let bad people frustrate you. Please keep on with the good work and the videos. Blessings from Israel.
Nikki, I completely agree with you. At the end of the day, we should try to reduce the amount of animals in shelters. Nothing wrong with breeding animals, but where do they end up going when the owners/breeders can't handle the amount/cost/health issues? Either into a shelter, or worse still, on the street and abandoned. Is it not better to adopt animals, who have been forced either by choice or circumstances, from the shelters? All pets deserve happy and healthy homes no matter where they come, but people should research properly and look at the options before taking on the responsibility.
I have adopted many dogs and cats from local shelter's. A dog is a dog does not matter if purebred or not! Some of my favorite and smartest animals have been adopted from the shelter, Some being mixed breed and one purebred, Old World German Shepherd at 6 year's old when I adopted him... Best dog ever!! Whoever was arguing the point that Nikki did not actually adopt because she paid a fee is a moron!! You pay adoption fee's to aid in keeping the shelter's going rather it be for vet expense's or food for the animal's. Iris is such a doll and getting really vocal there. :o)
I am also pro adoption, but what I don't really get is puppy mills mistreat their animals and have them in horrible conditions, so wouldn't you be rescuing those dogs too if you got them?
Yes it would help that one puppy, but it would make room for them to breed and make more puppies. If you want to know more on puppy mill dogs go to Harley's page on Facebook.
My thoughts exactly! If some people stop getting pets from major store chains, those mills where the dogs are bred will become overpopulated, and eventually those dogs would end up in shelters, too, if not dead.
Nikki, Don't worry about what people say. They can't tell you what to do with your life. You DID rescue all those animals.your not dumb you are soooo beautiful, smart and kind.Iris is so cute just like you. So don't let what people think or say you are you and nothing can change that nothing.I love both of your channels John is a very luck guy.😉
I adopted my 3 current dogs and couldn't be happier. 1 Mastiff, 1 Pit and one to be determined (just ordered a dna kit). I have had 2 mastiffs from a really good breeder and spent a lot of money for them and had to put them down 6 months apart due to cancer one 7 and one 9 years old, After a visit to a shelter I couldn't help but to adopt. So many dogs in shelters especially pitbulls I think if someone wants to breed they should need a permit otherwise all dogs and cats should be fixed by law
Hi Nikki, my baby also stopped taking the bottle.. It turns out the holes were too small after a wile and he had to suck too much and did not get enough milk. So I changed his bottle and everything went back to normal. Good luck with Iris, I hope this helps!
All my dogs are from breeders not because I don't like shelter dog it's because I am 100% against pet stores if I could right now I would adopt from a shelter but I don't think buying a dog is bad either not that you said that but it's better than buying from a pet store
Nikki you are a great mother and John is a great father, ya'll make a great family. I also want to adopt kids for the same reason because there is so many kids without parents but I also want to have kids. Nikki you just convinced me that I should adopt animals instead of buying them from breeders.
Totally agree with you Nikki. Adoption is the way to go with animals. Rescue animals are the best. When you adopt the money is used for the shelter. Only ignorant people would argue with u about this. Love my rescue animals!
Usually its the other way around, when you give a baby the bottle they have a hard time going back to the breast, Iris must love that bonding that comes with breastfeeding. You're the best Mom in the world Nikki
Thank You Nikki for agreeing with me about the emptying out the shelters because there are so many of animals that need homes that is where I got my dog at and she is the nicest dog ever and cutest. John keep up the good work. ♡☆♡☆♡☆♡☆♡☆♡☆♡☆♡☆( PS :Love You guys You put a smile on my face every time I watch your videos. )
I totally agree with you Nikki. I have pure breed Labrador retriever, I love her, She is awesome, but I don't think that I will buy so much breeded dog after her. I love Labradors, it is awesome breed. Unfortunately, too much breeded. I really want to rescue dog, or/and get Finnish lapphund or Lapponian herder (lapinporokoira) because those two breeds are really old, almost non-breeded and one of the healthiest breeds in the world. :) And of course Finnish and perfect dogs for this weather and environment.
Clearly those people you were auguring with are ignorant. having a child and over-breeding dogs (which makes a lot of them homeless and in shelters) is a whole different thing. Sad to think people are so heartless to think like that.
Nikki as a mother of 3 and I know this sounds mean but, if she is hungry she will eventually take the bottle. I think it is more of a comfort thing having mommy feeding her then her not wanting the bottle. Take it day by day and everyday you try feeding her the bottle that way you are with her but with the bottle. The comfort of mommy. Hope this helps.

Yep. Purebreds tend to have the most health issues due to rampant inbreeding as well as selective breeding that favors style over health.
Not true. Not true at all.

Nikki you go girl! Empty those shelters everyone! Awesome vlog!
is it just me or do you look like bridgit mendler?
RIGHT
That's what I thiught
Dude once u brought it up i noticed ALOT how true that is
elisandra martinez what up
sounds like her too!
Iris looked so happy to be so close to you hanging in the baby carrier. Really cute.
3:37 Oh my god, Iris, STAHP KILLIN ME WITH THE CUTENESS! IT'S TOO MUCH TO HANDLE!
I love you guys!! My daughter Elaina was born Oct 29th! I always love to check out your vlogs to see how sweet Iris is doing! She is precious!
Iris looks so much like your little brother.. So cute
I'm not a fan of babies but u actually do have a cute kid.
Your daughter is so precious and gorgeous. You and John are very lucky.
Nikki, you remind me so much of my mom, you have similar views on life and you are both from Minnesota.
My poodle is a pure bread that I rescued four years ago. keep up the great work!
I usually don't comment but today I am. I look up to you guys so much!! I love that you first of all don't support breeders and you adopt from shelters. Secondly I love that you are helping the community and spending your days helping others. Thank you for everything and I love you all
11:06 SAME! Once something negative or unexpected happens i can't stop going on about it.
Baby Iris = Adorable!!!
I agree on every single point you made for Rescue \ Adoption
pure bred is better dogs !
i got a Rottweiler
Does any one want a mix bred dog?
I agree, I like pure breds not mongrels although I do understand some mongrels are nive
^nice
I have a boxer x staffy and she has the best of both dogs
What A Lad half breds are no good. like i said :)
plus you know what you get when you buy a purebred. Mix bred to many problem.
Ignore the Deatheaters Nikki. Half-bloods are awesome.
I have always had a great fond for rescuing animals. When you adopt a rescue animal they have the best personality.I have 5 rescue animals.2 pit-bulls one of them are pure breed and the other is a pit-bull mix.1 Morkie pure breed.2 cats that are mixes.
Yah im like that too if somethings bothering me or stuck in my head I cant shake it either and yes I adopt dogs too we adopted my beagle♥ ily guys♥
You are so pretty Nikki! And don't let those people get to you! I think more people should adopt from shelters because there the ones in danger! Lol
Anytime I get my kitty a cat bed she opts for a pile of newspapers or a box instead haha.
how bout everyone just gets a pet from wherever they want..problem solved lol
I love your vlogs! You are such a cute, happy family and I wish you all the best of luck for the future! Your fans will always be behind you! Love from the UK!❤️
Nikki u are the best mom ever!!!! john is an amazing dad, iris is so lucky to have u!!! pls reply to my comment it will make my day
I agree with you Nikki! There are lots of wonderful animals in shelters that have lots of love to give.
You should do a day in the life of Nikki , John ,and iris
Your not dumb Nikki I love you and you are totally right adopting dogs and cats is the right thing to do
excited your dad coming!!! to visit for you!!!!!
Awesome :-) Nikki don't let dumb/mean people rent space in your head, They are not worth your time :-) Thumbs up :-)
We got our dog from a woman down the street, her daughter brought the dog (lothí, a beautiful friendly Lurcher terrier mix) to my estate, and lothí really seemed to like my sister, so the lady asked my sister does she want her because the owner is moving to a non pet area, my dad agreed and the next day we went to pick her up. ee got to the house and no one was home, there was no front or back garden and the house was tiny. NO animal.
I have adopted most of my animals, the only one is my cat j who we found underneath our porch at 4 weeks old and now she is almost 6 months old, and im glad we saved her
he is such a good dad you don't see dads like that that like to help out
It's so aggravating when John makes little noises when Nikki is talking. Like John, shhh for just a minute.
Am i the only one who laughs when Niki says "So bad." The Minnesotan accent gets me 😁.
Preach Nikki! I adopted my cat Maxi Max from my Mom's friend for my Kindergarten graduation.
I am also pro adoption, but what I don't really get is puppy mills mistreat their animals and have them in horrible conditions, so wouldn't you be rescuing those dogs too if you got them?
Yes it would help that one puppy, but it would make room for them to breed and make more puppies. If you want to know more on puppy mill dogs go to Harley's page on Facebook.
violet1179 thank you for the info I'll check it out
My thoughts exactly! If some people stop getting pets from major store chains, those mills where the dogs are bred will become overpopulated, and eventually those dogs would end up in shelters, too, if not dead.
Nikki,
Don't worry about what people say. They can't tell you what to do with your life. You DID rescue all those animals.your not dumb you are soooo beautiful, smart and kind.Iris is so cute just like you. So don't let what people think or say you are you and nothing can change that nothing.I love both of your channels John is a very luck guy.😉
thumbs up if you love their vlogs!
I agree completely with you, Nikki. I can't wait to get a rescue dog!
I'm so with you Nikki! Those people forget that we also do so much! :)
Hi Nikki, my baby also stopped taking the bottle.. It turns out the holes were too small after a wile and he had to suck too much and did not get enough milk. So I changed his bottle and everything went back to normal. Good luck with Iris, I hope this helps!
Im adopting a dog!! Going to see him on wednesday. I completely agree with u nikki!!
Iris is so cute her smile makes my day
All my dogs are from breeders not because I don't like shelter dog it's because I am 100% against pet stores if I could right now I would adopt from a shelter but I don't think buying a dog is bad either not that you said that but it's better than buying from a pet store
Nikki you are a great mother and John is a great father, ya'll make a great family. I also want to adopt kids for the same reason because there is so many kids without parents but I also want to have kids. Nikki you just convinced me that I should adopt animals instead of buying them from breeders.
from what i seen in your videos Iris seems like she will be a very chill teen and adult.
I love you nikki and john you guys are amazing parents to baby iris 💖
Iris is the Most cutest baby ever omg.
IRIS is such a cute little girl!! she's so precious!
Nikki and john are really cool i think they could be billionares with this channel
Totes agree with Nikki about adoption. I always get in arguments with people about that too.
Thank You Nikki for agreeing with me about the emptying out the shelters because there are so many of animals that need homes that is where I got my dog at and she is the nicest dog ever and cutest. John keep up the good work. ♡☆♡☆♡☆♡☆♡☆♡☆♡☆♡☆( PS :Love You guys You put a smile on my face every time I watch your videos. )
U guys should put a nanny cam in Ur home just to be safe
John is so funny when he's with Iris 😄
I totally agree with you Nikki. I have pure breed Labrador retriever, I love her, She is awesome, but I don't think that I will buy so much breeded dog after her. I love Labradors, it is awesome breed. Unfortunately, too much breeded.
I really want to rescue dog, or/and get Finnish lapphund or Lapponian herder (lapinporokoira) because those two breeds are really old, almost non-breeded and one of the healthiest breeds in the world. :) And of course Finnish and perfect dogs for this weather and environment.
Nikki i agree with u about adopting all animals deserve a loving home
I totally agree with Nikki. Adoption can help and i am even thinking about adopting a kitten.
Clearly those people you were auguring with are ignorant.
having a child and over-breeding dogs (which makes a lot of them homeless and in shelters) is a whole different thing. Sad to think people are so heartless to think like that.
I totally understand your adoption visions. I just got in a huge fight about this exact topic. You and I are so alike.
One more thing, if someone resorts to name calling in an argument, it reflects on them. People who don't have valid points name call. Let it go.
