Should India trust the US ?
    The simple answer is No.
Should India constructively engage with the US ?
    The simple answer is Yes.
India should engage with the US in such a manner that the US should not even dare to demand India to ban RT - which it recently did.
It should be made clear to them, that India would never even listen to such demands.

    • @u.2b215

For India to engage with the US in a manner so that they do not dare make demands it needs to have leverage on the US more than the US has on India. Things are improving though. India used to have to reluctantly agree to many US demands, now it can listen to most demands and politely decline. It will take a long time for India to be seen by the US as remotely equal, the US at this time sees India as a pawn to use against China and to weaken BRICS in general.

I fear the United States is just utilizing India as a counterbalance to China, which, as you may know, have been expressed by many experts for quite some time. The key here, I believe, is to ensure we strike a proper balance in our dealings with the US. While I am not entirely certain what those levers might be, I am confident we do possess certain advantages. We should seize every possible benefit, be it in terms of technological exchange, advanced weaponry, and so on. In matters of diplomacy, India mustn’t hesitate to play a cunning game. Like the fox, we should approach with subtlety and readiness to act.

What does the word 'dare' here even mean? This is not some college-level competition going on. If the USA decides, it can bring the Indian economy down to its knees. What leverage does India have on the USA? None. Russia can only help us with arms (although albeit obsolete now), but it cannot help with the economy. China is already an enemy. The USA is the only country that can realistically help us with the economy, high-tech, critical intelligence and maybe arms. The USA can demand, because it can!

I feel India should balance between USA and China.
I think it is in interest of China too that they need to resolve border disputes if they wish India to not go too deep in relationship with US.
US has given India strategic set backs such as Bangladesh promoting a lame Indian leader Rahul Gandhi (Soros literal right hand in India) and Khalistan issues.
I feel release of pressure by China on border will allow us to rationally negotiate with USA without giving any national security threat for China.
Till China change its stance to counter US we need some big steps in direction of BRICS currency and global south.

Yes, most of us should agree that India's interest lies with general strategic alignment with US. If India does not get technology and investment from the west, how can it dream to be a developed nation? The path is very clear. Some hiccups will be there, those need to be ironed out through strategic communication. However, that does not mean that India should completely align itself with any superpower, keeping aside its own unique geo-political strategic interest. However, it is a fact that US follows one red line that no country should challenge its global hegemony. So the take is on India as to how it should navigate.

There is much trepidation and resistance to India's ties with the US particularly in the older generation of Cold Warriors. This does not take into account the recent strengthening of relationship between Russia and China, where they are now aligned in defense. This also does not consider the transformation of US India relationship where India has much to gain and has bipartisan support.

Well, shared values do not equate to shared interests. If the West is feeling particularly threatened, maybe at that time for some time shared values may itself be seen as an interest. Today is not that day however. Hence presently the US is busy fomenting Khalistan in Punjab, Church led unrest in Manipur, generally calling for Christian proselytisation to be given a free hand in India and making noises about conditions of Muslims in India, censuring India through USCIRF, getting its proxies I'm the media, academia, charities to paint a generally grim and negative potrait of India. . Trust is a useless word. While being in NATO, as noted in one of his books, a German Chancellor had remarked in presence of Henry Kissinger to a US ambassador or some other government official, since you spend 20% of your time working with the US government, I think I can trust 80% of what you say or something to that effect.
Relations with US would be a transactional affair assessed on a case by case basis. If net net something is still to be gained that will continue. But we should also be mindful of the hurdles and obstacles the US is putting for India.

Recent events have also aggravated it. The hasty and chaotic US withdrawal from afghanistan didn't go down well in New Delhi . The pressure exerted on India by the loud and noisy heterogeneous state regarding the Ukraine war and the indifference, inaction or tacit backing of the US authorities to khalistani separatists riled New Delhi. The US still has substantial ties with Islamabad and is complicit in the ouster of the only friendly regime that India had in a troubled neighborhood.

Relations with the US can be deep or on the surface depending on how we shape our domestic policies. If we keep having a antagonistic approach towards our Civil Society, for instance ( as at present), it is perceived rightly as anti democratic. Attitudes towards us would be conditioned by that perspective and any transaction, although covered by an agreement, would suffer a disruption. This is the reason for scepticism about dependence on the US, given our present Government policies.

For a minute I felt like I was watching CNN😂.
The so called experts don't even know that MD Yunus himself said that "it was meticulously designed".

No we can't trust USA,see what it has done in Bangladesh,in Pakistan.... USA always want to rule India but it will never happen.... USA will support India only when we surrender our sovereignty....so it is better to trust Russia our brother and invest more on India Russia relationship 🇮🇳❤️🇷🇺

So what? Bangladesh and Pakistan are not our friends their our enemies. All sudden you care that America does to enemies? Where you one complaining about America lavishing military arms on Pakistan? I don't you see you bitching now that we are allowed to buy American assault rifles or American drones for that matter. Indian army is already using American transportation helicopters.
