I'm very interested in Institutional Ethnography and was expecting some insights from this talk by its founder. But I have to say that, somewhat ironically, Smith was not very good at explaining IE in this talk. In a sense, and even more ironically, her presentation remained at a rather abstract level regarding the work of institutional ethnographers. What is it that they do? In her own terms, it seems she was captured by the institutional language of institutional ethnography, essentially talking only to those who already know.
