I grew up on New Orleans RTA Buses, long ago, we had 1990 Orion V 127-139 and I rode it when I was a kid and it brings back memories. Those were my favorite buses and also New Orleans RTA MAN Americana buses with the old logo before it was repainted in the 90s. Also AC Transit Gillig Phantoms 2600s, 2700s, & 2800s had these engines too. I wish I had a chance to ride on them as well. By the way, R.I.P. To New Orleans RTA 1990 Orion V 127-139 due to Hurricane Katrina, Man Americanas, & also AC Transit Gillig Phantom buses as well
Oh man me too. I grew up with the New Flyers and Orion Vs running. I miss the 100 series and the old new flyers. I didn't like the other Orions other than the really old ones. One thing the RTA really needs to get on is restoring some of the routes that go uptown. There wasn't much room for a bus to stop on Nashville or Broadway but even with parallel bus and streetcar lines its still about 2 miles between the MLK on napoleon and the Leonidas line on broadway, you know for example. Nothing runs down earhart except their new Airport express route which is nice, but yeah. I'm glad to see how far back they came, all things considered.
Wow... Nostalgia effect here.. Right down to the squeaky brakes and the noisy farebox. Even looks like an old Pittsburgh PAT bus, only our buses didn't have 2 rear doors, and the seats were actually cushioned.
Inbetween those two were Orion I's from 1989 (8901-8909) and 1990 (9014-9028) all with the same powertrain as 8894-8899 and 9129-9137. They also for a time in the early part of the 2000s ran some ex-Santa Monica GM New Looks numbered 8273-8274, 8575, 8289 and 8690-8691. 8273-8274 and 8289 used the 8V71 while 8575 and 8690-8691 used the 6V92TA. 8691 was also an oddball in that it was actually a 1982 model rather than a 1986 model (supposedly the one that was an '86 was rejected by Brampton).

Sounded just like Old Neoplans at Philadelphia SEPTA from the 80s
Tom, while you were in Brampton, did you know that that agency also ran 8 Orion V's using Cummins ISM engines backed with the same Voith transmissions as these 1991 units? Those are numbers 0181-0188, purchased in 2001.
Miss this engine sound a lot Brings me back to the Early 2000s and mid 2000s
A wonderful opportunity of riding Brampton Transit. One of my favorite buses to ride. Love that 6V92TA engine on this one also!
OOH SHIT! GREAT SOUNDING bus! This bus reminds me so much of BC Transit 1991 Orion V #610 which has sadly just recently been sent for scrap.

Damn that Orion V moan is strong with this one! I love it.

God I miss this engine! Thank you for posting!

This Bus Reminds me of the one used on the Long Island Bus lines
the intro slaps
Always thought it was interesting that that 6v92s sounded quite different in these than Classics...
That engine reminds me of AC Transits old 2800 series Gilligs.
Yes I did. But my objective was to ride the 1988 Orion Is and 1991 Orion Vs, which is what I did.
