I am 65 years old , and i remember seeing the Allman Brothers Band in the 70 s. And now seeing their kids playing the same music. It is just awesome 👍 🎶 🎸
Steven Yates: I'm with you. I just re-listened to this after having heard a post by Wade Tatangelo (Sarasota Herald) of Dickey. 78 yo, playing Liz Reed in the same mellow, quiet, beautiful mode as this version. He wasn't into "presence." Just taking the song on a long, beautiful journey. I'm revising some earlier impressions, and listening to this as the bar band it seems to be. And given it's kind of a pickup band, everybody gives a thoughtful, feeling job when soloing as well as playing rhythm chords. I love this song and am happy when Duane leans into it. Mike Kach (keyboardist with Dickey's Great Southern) is not trying to match Greg Allman, just playing with quiet professionalism, as is Berry Duane Oakley. Probably not rehearsed much as an established band. As for the drummer, he's doing a fine job, imo, of carrying the load of the original two drummers as one man alone. The 1st guitarist knows this song well. And is alert to Duane Betts' signals as to which one will take the high harmony on the 3rd statement of the theme. Duane's solo moved me to tears at times, especially at moments when he made it his own. He's so like Dickey, but stands apart from him as well. I'm astonished at all the griping in the comments. After all, this was not ABB playing a concert here. More than likely played it as a request from that relatively small audience.
To all the haters out there. This is NOT a studio recording. It is a weekly gig on Sunday by the offspring. Not the man/band that gave birth to this masterpeice. It is coming to you filtered through youtube. Take a deep breath and get over yourselves.
Duane is an amazing guitarist in his own right. He stands alone and not in his fathers shadow. Duane and this bass player could have the core to the next amazing band. Hes no longer just Dickies son. With all due respect to Dickie
So glad to see and hear this. These guys are all high-class musicians, and they keep the heritage of the Allman Brothers Band. ABBs music ist excellent for much more than one generation!
Jo Quhe I couldn't agree more. always loved the brothers, from before I ever saw them and once I did I never missed another show! I was so heartbroken when they said farewell. I always thought I'd get to see them again and when Greg died that was that. but we'll always have Warren and Tedeschi Trucks and now actual offspring. and damn I'm looking forward to getting a chance to see Duane. one thing that makes me happy is now the potential to hear a good version of Blue Sky Is Back. I love all them guys but no one could quite put the lyrics on it once Dickie left. and if you don't believe me check out Blackberry smoke with Derek playing Blue Sky it's pretty damn good
Duane's phrasing is certainly reminiscent of his famous father's lead style. And the tone is pretty close. Despite the drummer's tendency to over play, and the organ player's rather lackluster solos, this ABB fan gives this performance 2 thumbs up!
I think that this is beautiful. My thoughts are that musicianship has gone by the wayside. The Brothers were the epitome of musicianship. This prodigy illustrates the beauty of masterpieces of the past that did not involve the mechanization of the so-called talents of Kanye or Katy or Taylor or Drake or the like. Pure professional musicians who displayed their prowess and love of sound and presentation. Amen.
Musicianship hasn't gone by the wayside!!! There are an insane amount of really good musicians out there, it's just popular top 40 music isn't this anymore & hasn't been for quite sometime, doesnt mean good musicians went anywhere!!!
Duane Betts will just get better and better the more he plays live. He has the same instinct that his Dad has, in the videos with Gov. Mule jamming with Hayne's.Y ou see Hayne's smiling a lot IMO cause he played with Dickey he see's the comparison, I love this. Oh to be young. Lol
Oh you critics, you critics. Duane was just too paces before getting more solid and playing ABB legacy songs as a guest with Devon Allman's Project as well as playing alongside his dad when Dickey retired (at 70!) and then unretired (at 75). FYI, that is the wonderful Mike Kach on keyboard of Great Southern acclaim; and the bassist is Berry Gordon Jr., who has a marvelous musical background under the tutelage of his stepfather. The story is amazing (look it up). And those of you so eager to berate the drummer, remember this is not a professionally balanced recording -- and he is carrying the load of what we usually have, that is two drums and assorted congas, Timbales, etc. from a third percussionist. I found much to enjoy in this session. Give it a couple more listens, why don't you?
Does anyone know WHY Berry, Duane, and Devon are never on stage with Derek Trucks when Trucks does some ABB anniversary gig? Im telling ya .. that dont feel right! Why arent these second gen SONS performing in the same venues with the drummer's nephew?
@@sv3931 : the Allman Betts drummers have a good reputation, having played with some heavy hitters. Also, someone complained about their keyboardist being lackluster. I'd say depends on the post. I'm not sure this is the Relix post when they opened at Brooklyn Bowl, but imo they were all cooking that night. Seems Duane is taking some time off recently. Not sure why, but hope this doesn't portend something bad, like a recurrence of his drug problem.
@@sv3931 Truth be told, Derek Trucks is a far better musician than any, and all of these guys. They're good players, but he is a true musician's musician. Night and day difference in talent. Use your ears. It's easy to hear the distinction between good and great. They copy, Derek creates. Best wishes to them all.
Yes, but he also got a lot of help with gear besides just all the teachings. Dickey took him on the road with him for many years during the ABB when he was a teenager and would get him on stage for at least a song. Dickey would often set the controls on the amp he was to play though.
Just not quite the feel for it or the talent and soul that Dickie had. These guys are amateurs looking for an easy quick unearned gig. Sad. The first theme started alright, but then the drummer and bass player wanted to be a little more noticed. This is a long song, there was plenty of time for egos and recognition. I'll break out my Fillmore East (1971) recording when I want to experience the soul and passion of the ABB.
bar band!!!! the 4 square boxes with 12 wire extention cords, the glass of beer on the amp...that drummer just beating on those bongos like some chimpanzee!.... as indeviduals these guys were 5 shades of cool. and they played like it. i would pay 10 dollars to see that guitar player with the long little finger play in sarasota. loved it.
Duane seems a lot more relaxed playing without his old man on stage with him. I hear hints of some Warren Haynes influence in his playing too. He's got the old mans feel for sure and more. Would love to see him branch out.
you all probably dont care at all but does any of you know of a method to log back into an instagram account? I was dumb forgot my account password. I love any tricks you can offer me

Admirable work by all. The other guitar player impressed me. Keyboard player is a notch better than Greg. Is Duane playing his dad's Les Paul? Awesome tone! Berry has his father's style and technique down. A second drummer and these guys would be perfect!
20 years ago Berry Oakley has thrown a 19 years old Joe Bonamassa out of his band "bloodline". 20 yeears later... Berry plays small clubs, Joe plays sold out theaters and arenas!
Berry Jr. has played more than you say. For a while with Hutch Trucks in his solo band. And now holding the bottom down in the flourishing Allman Betts (Oakley) Band. Touring the world before the damned virus - one record down and other in the hopper soon to be released.
I'm no particular fan of the drummer, but we should acknowledge that in a live setting in a small space like this the drums will be too LOUD. There's no mixing board in the chain here, it's just comin' right at ya. And it's just too much.

ABB drumming, it's so much fun playing this stuff, not an easy thing for one guy to pull off.
Great song and performance. They can use a new drummer. Was way too loud near the beginning and somewhat throughout the song. Distracting at some points.
Duane needs to relax even more, he seems shy and a little bit tentative. He has to bring it out like his old man does. I wonder if he has his Dad's temper. He is definitely as timid as he is with the old man.

Love Duane Betts but he doesn't look too interested in this performance. Seemed he was a bit annoyed at the drummer, even indicating for him to either slow the tempo or take it easy. Also don't know to many artists that are in the "moment' and then are checking their cell on stage.
I think Duane has a much lighter touch than Dickie, I heard the band live too and thought the same thing live plus, I didn’t care for the sound live. Too wimpy, like no drive. 66 yr old here and listened to the greats back in the day. I'm glad their offspring are keeping the ABB tradition LIVE and ALIVE. Keep it up guys!
This cover is good enough to make me feel the same as the original. To old friends and old times.
OK, did not expect this to be nearly as good as it is, Respect gentlemen!
No critique from me. I'm 62, and blessed to see the ABB in 70s and 80s. So it's amazing to see Duane and Berry Jr on stage doing their thing.
And this, being Daddy's song, is probably the very first song he ever tried to play! WOW!
Just wow

Shit! I just realized what Berry was playing in his solo! Awesome!
Looking forward to the new Allman Betts album. Excellent musicians in their own right for sure.
Me too I also saw ABB play ...there concerts were so mellow ..Acid would be passed around like joints.
15:35 full body goose bumps Duane rolling those triplets like Skydog.
Blown away by these young fella,s.. too bad Butch didn't have a drummer son.. now it they would travel to Michigan for a concert..
