Nice one Niels, Interesting seeing comments below about having to re drill another crop after harvest, do you know why that is, soil erosion or something else in the government laws?

It is mandatory reseed on sand or loess directly after having harvested the maize (although they made an exception this year due to the drought), this has to be done to prevent leaching of fertilizers (nitrate is mentioned in the regulations) which according to the requlations can be harmful to the environment. There are also regulations on what crop you can seed, and if you can use it or if it has to be destroyed, for example, you can use grass to feed your animals...but also for that you have to meet certain requirements. Allowed crops are grass, winter grain (rye, wheat, barley, triticale), oilseed radish or Japanese oats. Search for the term "vanggewas" or "vanggewas na mais", I'm sure you can find a complete explanation and have google translate it for you. :-) Regards, Dennis

Nice one, Niels. Saw Oats at the edge - Wild Oats or last years crop?

Thank you Alan. Might be some leftovers. (bit hard to explain, as I do not know all the correct English terms for it). Farmers have to sow another crop after the harvest (goverment rules), they aren't allowed to leave the field bare until spring. So some sow grass, other choose grain sorts (weed, barly, and oats perhaps). But they are all plowed under in spring, the crop itself isn't harvested. At the edges of the field some of the plants might survive the year.
