- Kirby copy abilities are really fun, in the textbook, classic Nintendo way. But... you'd be surprised how many of these are actually bad. Let's talk about them, and make them better!

@@Klaire_Fluffle Mirror was a fave for the true arena and arena. Especially its guard and reflection of ranged attacks. I get its not speedrun use but Mirror is just fun
other way to fix parasol: turn it in a beach umbrella to have extra vertical range (like a smaller chumbrella from star allies) to use as a platform and a shield
That's a good idea actually! For speedrunning it's probably not what you'd expect, but it sounds fun casually too, so it fits both sides.

Cupid is such a tragedy. They were so afraid of making flight too powerful in a Kirby game that they barely gave it anything else. Still, people love it, so I have some hope. Maybe if it ever returns they'll learn from the past.
I actually would trust the current team with Cupid... if they cared about the abilities from the GBA games and SqSq

I think the pogo stick parasol is a great idea and I also really like how you use speed running as an objective metric

I feel like Mirror being as rare as it is now is part of why it's so popular, if it was more prevalent people would realize it…really doesn't have much going for it. Even with its flaws, it's still one of my favorites since reflecting projectiles is just so fun
Fair point, but there are other rare abilities that don't get as much attention as Mirror does - literally thinking of Jet from the same games, minus Battle Royale. Shame because Mirror is , at least compared to Jet~
I do not think balancing copy ability's around speed running is a good thing, because not all of us want or need to go fast, sometimes I want to be defensive and have fun at my own pace.
Staff kirby was not included as that ability is beyond saving

I'd buff mirror by making its reflecting ability active while its dashing. They don't lean into the cool relfection enough and making it so you don't have to stop moving to use it might make it more helpful.
I dunno if that'd help with speedrunning at all, but it would be cool! Maybe its dash naturally reflects, or something.
@@Klaire_Fluffle It might not be a speedrunning superfix but it'd give a way to attack without having to lower your speed
it'd be cool if mirror's dodge roll went across the screen or even through certain walls, broken but neat
The dash attack already goes through walls, it just doesn't do anything aside from hitting enemies. It'd be really cool if it could do more
Mirror can be made better if can block and reflect laser attacks , even with a helper with a Beam attack for huge damage also maybe even open portals with mirrors , Parasol be made better with a pointy end making more damage but it's a small hit box so players have to make the attack use just the tip , Cupid can turn Kirby into a arrow and shoots himself, Ranger needs a trick shot power up that can ricochet off walls like a ball for when a shot misses its target
Also have Mirror Kirby Mirror shards be a gameplay thing where it can be break up on the floor and damage bosses , and can suck up Beam attacks for a trap , plus it can be use for puzzles
One of my least favorite abilities getting buffed for my least favorite mode in SSU. A match made in heaven. To be clear, I don't find Mirror awful, I've actually somewhat enjoyed it when I used it in the Arenas it gets to be used in (especially Robobot with the new moves and improvements to reflected projectiles). It's just that when I'm in actual levels I would usually rather use any other ability with a couple exceptions. Also never liked Dash Attack. I don't need every ability Dash Attack to be a burst movement option but I also don't need it to be Mirror's Dash Attack. Charming? Yes. Anything else. Eeeeeeh. Oh, and if you're wondering about GCO, it's kinda just a "worst of the best situation". Fine mode, look forward to the others way more every time I play SS and SSU.
All fair points! I'm in agreement with Mirror, too; very fun, not every dash attack has to be like Wing or Fire, but compared to my other options I'm not as into it.
Man, I do wish Cupid was better. It's such a guilty pleasure of mine.
Moving around with it is so much fun! If only attacking with it wasn't so miserable

I find the lack of mentioning how Mirror Kirby is insane due to being able to hurt background/foreground enemies disturbing.

Ma'am you are objectively wrong. This thing SHREDS the projectile-heavy bosses, and Mirror Split solves the issue of non-projectile bosses

I've never tried doing a serious speedrun before, and honestly I haven't been playing Kirby games for that long, so being the filthy casual I am I'm hugely intrigued by the notion of specific copy ability runs - the more silly and unoptimised the better :3 But I don't think it should be controversial to assent to the notion that certain copy abilities are "bad" in speedrunning contexts. Puppy can't go fast if she's not using the best ability for a specific scenario I agree with cupid not being a particularly good ability, at least for me. I get thrown off by the way the flying mechanic zips Kirby around levels, but the arrow firing mechanic has to wind up to activate - I feel like I'm going faster than the game intends yet I'm always late to attack.
Slightly off topic, but the enemy designs in _Planet Robobot_ are really rad, very cute aesthetic

Needle would be good in other games if the people at HAL weren’t cowards and let it have the dash attack and the down stab in the same game. Imagine retaining needle roll momentum across an entire screen. Truly peak.

0:30 Infomercial Kirby real? (Infomercial is an ability in the fangame Pik's Epic Kirby Sprite Comics Teh Game 2, one of its attacks is simply throwing steak knives straight forward)
I like the idea for a new attack for Parasol! A few days ago I was playing TDX (robobot wasn't cooperating that day)True Arena with Parasol and that down attack is POWERFUL (especially the midbosses which get ripped to shreds), but it really struggles in the air. This made aerial bosses such as Kracko (and the first two phases of SoS) rather annoying. I'm thinking an even funnier solution to this problem is make Parasol's stationary hitbox comically powerful =)
-anyways if you dont mind im going back to killing braincells playing bugzzy helper to hero why is this ability so agonizing-
For the video I wanted to keep things balanced, but now that I'm in the comments I absolutely agree that just making Parasol comically OP is the way to go!
Yes there are bad for speed running copy abilities but agreement that there are just some copyabilities that do practically nothing

It does alright against the bosses but there are plenty of other abilities that can do it faster. Which is why it should be able to Free the Waddle Dees

Make Sand Better,Give it new moves instead of Just Grabs,Or slide dashes.,Like make use of Tornado's ability.
For what it's worth, while I could give it better movement, it's already the best ability in Return Deluxe for bosses. True Arena speedruns basically come down to solo'ing with Sand, so it's already good!
