Personally I cant understand the animosity, i was born in Greece but carry 30% Turkish DNA. I would say the majority of both these two countries if they were to have their DNA tested would be shocked at how much our DNA is the same.

I am a Turk who has a few Greek friends. The sad truth is they are taught from an early age to see Turks as enemies. Turks do not have this culture while being raised. You will see all cultures being advertised in Turkey. They are all allowed and respected. The Turkish culture does not get the same treatment unfortunately.

It's an ancient tradition; it was used as metaphor for dealing with loss (death etc) in Ancient Greece. In modern Greece it has the meaning of devaluing matter over the soul. It's like saying, "Since we're having such a good time with our friends, etc., materials are useless."

The only important difference is our plates are clay and in their bisque phase (not glazed and are heavier) so when they are broken the pieces don't break as fine as the glazed normal plates as used at this wedding, and don't go flying far .The bisque even get broken on the heads of the men with no injuries, unless they take more than one! The glazed plates are like glass they shatter in very fine pieces which land in food drinks and are rendered dangerous! Some functions have flowers and rose petals as an option and those are just as dangerous if not swept properly off the dancing floor......
