    I have over 50 different sets of pencils, from derwent, caran dach polychromos fabre castell and more. I found my self constantly hunting for colours from all different sets to complete my picture. Then i brought these - heaven- every colour i could want all in one set. They are lovley pencils and i have since brought a back up set and also the set of pastels and the metallics. Best pencils i have, all my expensive ones are not sitting on the shelf unused and sulking.

    Hello, I've got the box with 260 pencils and their numbers are the same than the numbers on the brutfuner 180 in the black tin, in the same order. (the core iof the 180 is thicker and softer)
    Plus 80 more colours.
    I prefer the pencils in the flower boxes too (the 520) then those in the 260 box which the core is thinner then those in the flower boxes
    I'm not a huge fan of the square barrels too.
    Hope that helps.
    Ate the Kalour the same as the student ones ?
    I like your portrait with the student ones, it is lovely.
    Thanks for your review

    • @CrystalsColorStyle
      @CrystalsColorStyle  11 месяцев назад

      Hi thanks 👋😊 there's a few different Kalour sets. Of the ones I've tried, the 180 black barrels that come in the red tin are the same as the Brutfuner 180 black barrels except a thinner core and an alternate 6 different colors. To me, the 240/300 Kalour set is kind of in between these 2 types of Brutfuners I'm going over in the video, more like the student grade ones, maybe a step above. Then, the Macaron set is a softer more blendable pencil. I like that one best but is almost identical to the Brutfuner Macaron pencils if not the same.

    If people are wondering who they're "made" for? These sets are designed for people who colour regularly but don't want to deal with open stock replacements of colours. In a 520 set you're going to have a lot it colours that look exactly the same and that might feel like a bummer, however they dupe in for colours you use up and if this is done well you get a full experience with most of the pencils, since there's no option to replace pencils unless you buy a new set. It works out to be less money than multiple 60 sets are, for example.

    • @CrystalsColorStyle
      @CrystalsColorStyle  10 месяцев назад

      I guess it would depend on how well you can see the differences between all of the shades and how much it truly matters to you. For example to my eye, all of the colors in the flower boxes are distinctly different. That has been noted as a drawback to no openstock by some.

    • @Mostlymid
      @Mostlymid 10 месяцев назад

      I have the flower set. I'm also a professional artist, but I color A LOT for fun. I love color, I even have a set of Pantone cards that I plan on painting on soon. Another one of my excessive, needless purchases that people feel the need to question me about. To the well trained eye, none of the colors in the set look exactly the same. I have swatched every single pencil in the set and none of them even look close. If I ran out of a particular red in this set I would be super pissed if I was in the middle of a project because there's no red in the set that I could use to finish it out. So to me, that's KIND OF a bummer. On the other hand, I'm also a pencil junkie so I have about six million other red pencils to try and color match. I'm quite sure that in my mountain of colored pencil pigments there's a red that I could use to get close enough to the red I was using to finish out the project.😅
      Of course I probably wouldn't start a large project with a pencil that small. I'm super perfectionistic about even my coloring artwork and I like things to look a certain way. But I was trained on a color wheel at Pratt and if you know colors none of the colors in these boxes are exactly the same.
      I'm curious, do you have these pencils?

    • @Mostlymid
      @Mostlymid 10 месяцев назад

      I do agree, however, about these being cheaper than buying multiple 60 sets. I suppose it depends on how you use them and how you color.

    • @CrystalsColorStyle

      @pixiespencilsandpapers oh I've been thinking of doing something like that too with the Pantone cards! I love that the flower box set uses Pantone color names! ❤️ I think many people don't realize that we all don't necessarily see colors the same and can't conceive anything existing outside of their own color view.

      I catch crap all the time when I post new pencil sets on social media, especially when they're 20:02 actual artist-grade like Pablo or Luminance or other high-end pencils (although it only happens in coloring groups, which is why I hardly ever do it, the exception being The Coloring Divas, because it almost never happens there.) But I even got it when I posted this set. Why is it anyone else's business? You know?
      Somebody asked me, "Well, if you're an artist and you have so many artist-grade pencils at your disposal, why do you need 520 hobby grade pencils?" I toyed with the idea of just ignoring the question and the person entirely, because they had no business asking me, but the answer is because I color. And why should I use Luminance pencils in a $4 coloring book if that's what I'm coloring in when I don't have to or I don't want to? Those are for work, mostly. They're incredibly expensive. I'm not going to sit and use my work stuff for other things at home unless it's something I plan on gifting or hanging on my wall, or doing as a project ("Ivy And The Inky Butterfly," a Tomislav Tomic book, etc),why would I?
      People don't seem to be able to differentiate the fact that what's my business is my business and what's your business is your business. People also don't seem to have manners anymore and it's really frustrating. My mother would have had a heart attack if I asked somebody how much they paid for something or why they bought something if they had something else. She would have smacked the back of my head until we got home and then she would have shoved the bar of soap in my mouth.

  • @chevgage6210
    @chevgage6210 10 месяцев назад

    All of these are at best a student grade. None of them are going to be artist grade. The ones being called student grade are more of a low grade aimed at really small children, where the premium versions are the actual student grade. Basically if it's a student grade it'll hold up against prismacolor scholar or something like that. Student grade is still a good pencil that isn't scratchy and blends reasonably, which is what makes them good to learn on. If it's too crappy to do that, it's not a student quality pencil. Student grade doesn't mean anyone in school from K-12, it means art students specifically.

    • @CrystalsColorStyle
      @CrystalsColorStyle  10 месяцев назад

      Yes i am aware, I'm merely using simple terms to make it easier to differentiate the 2 sets. In speaking with the manufacturer, the set with just the numbers is known to be the lesser quality of the two. When being sold to vendors, the flower boxes are marketed as the more premium set. Of course, these terms are subjective. I made it clear in the video that neither was equivalent to an artist grade set.

    • @Mostlymid
      @Mostlymid 10 месяцев назад

      I think everyone in this community knows that any pencil that doesn't have lightfast ratings on the box or on their site that are either ASTM or Blue Wool not truly "artist grade" pencils. That's why a lot of people held off so long on buying Holbeins, because they would not come clean with how they were claiming lightfastness and charging a captain's ransom when they had no recognized testing method posted on their box. These terms for these pencils are obviously just used to differentiate the hobby grade from the kiddie pencils. And everybody knows it. Absolutely nobody expects to pay $120 for 520 artist grade pencils. Not in the United States in this economy anyway.
      On the other hand, there are a lot of new people in the coloring community. It grows by the day. So it might be a good idea, Crystal, to make note of the fact that true artist-grade grade pencils, despite what the advertising says on the site that is selling them, have this testing somewhere on the box or on the website.

      @pixiespencilsandpapers Yes, I usually do mention those facts when I do a pencil review. I've been planning on buying the flower box set, because the only Brutfuner pencils I have are the square ones (which I love). I haven't done it yet though because 100 plus dollars is a lot for me to spend on hobby pencils. I don't mean to sound like a snob (but I probably do lol what else is new 🤣)but having a student grade hobby level pencil sounds kind of redundant to me, so I would never consider buying the other set at all. Like, why? Brutfuner pencils are already pretty much student grade just by virtue of the fact that they're not lightfast, and they're produced in China. I'm in no way being räçìst or xenophobic by saying that, but unless someone can enlighten me on recent events in the art world, as far as I know there are no artist grade pencils being made in China at the moment. And they're also not of the same quality as other artist grade pencils. They're just not, and people can come at me telling me how much better they like them than Prismacolors or whatever they have, but they're not the same quality. With that said, I love my Nyoniand my Brut Square and Schpirrer Farben, and I use them all the time for coloring, but I would never use them for a commission. I'm just saying what's the point of having a student grade hobby pencil? It doesn't make any sense to me.
