Glad you mentioned feeding I have been feeding like you say since Feb non stop and they just can't take enough down, my fully independent hives did okay with only one loss but some of them do seem a way behind my managed hives.
Thanks for the comments on horse hair 😳bee brushes. I did wonder... grass it is then. I’ve moved to water but I’ll put a smidge of sugar in. Thanks for this. Super lovely as always.
I see so many things that I like about your beekeeping. It seems you give the bees the credit they deserve for the work only they can do. It seems like here in the US most beekeepers think they need to bee fiddling with the hive every two or three days…treating with chemicals and powders….which I think might be a bit much. Thanks for sharing your experience….I suppose I could only be quite disappointed if you were to light a bon fire and dance around it in the dark calling out greetings to the bee gods while drinking mead! All the best!
This video couldn’t come at a better time for me. New beek and it was a nightmare trying to push my bar back without squishing bees! 😢 Thank you for the info on the sugar water that was super helpful as I don’t really want to use smoke x
Great video Phil. I’m always in awe about how the bees seem to understand you are helping them. And it reminded me that I need to try the eco floor in my next hive. I’m interested in hearing more about that “tomb” looking hive and the upper/lower entrances. It looked like they were fanning around the lower. If/when you open that one, I’d love to see the video.
Hi Phil, I love the info in your videos, I currently have an 18 bar top bar hive with an eco floor, I wanted to pick your brain. 13 of the bars are completely built out 1 is partial and 4 aren't built out yet I checked the hive and there were no swarm cells. Since they will soon be running out of room would you suggest that I get a mated queen and do a split, geographically I'm in northern USA, thanks.
First swarm for me today! Manchester UK being a slow year though they are going to have to work hard to be ready for Autumn / Winter if it is anything like last year.
Thanks Phil. Nice video. Would you mind telling me how many bars in that hive please? I've got two at home. One with 30 bars, one with 24. All the bars are 38mm wide. Early days for me but so far I'm finding the 24 bar hive is big enough.
Hi Phil (if you read this) I am intending building a top bar hive and seen a good few videos it will be my first but have a question do you think it would be OK for me to coat the outside of the intended hive with a decking oil for no other reason besides to preserve than matching the shed in the garden or would it put the bees off?
Hi Phil- so nice to see you with a big beautiful swarm in one of your apiaries- hiving swarms is my favorite!
Interesting, thank you for sharing 🐝🐝
I really needed you today, thank you
Just found your channel and subscribed!! I live in the South East US and the flow here has been really good this year. Thanks for sharing!

I think that hive is 44 inches long, but I never allow them to fill it end to end, so it would have up to 24 bars max.
