I own 9 different compressors incluiding DBX 160 SL, vintage 160S and distressors but I want this, even my worst ever compressor was Drawmer DL 241.@@MOOTANT1
Very nice demo!! Thank you for the music choice. Not many videos of EDM and the 1978. It definitely adds some body to the mix while not over cooking it. EQ section, saturation, and wet/dry knob features make it a great affordable option. If desired add saturation and cook it till it's charcoal if you desire.
Thanks for the vid man, got mine yesterday, just pair it with the spl vitalizer mk2 and works wonderfully. I like the fact that it can be very transparent.
awesome demo, thanks! do you have any other good stereo compressor recommendations for techno, ideally under the 1k mark? anything with color is gladly appreciated.
Brilliant video! Although if you ever do a demo in the future do you reckon you could use an acoustic drum sample? Just to hear how it reacts with that kind of source
Really great demo! But you gotta find a way to angle the camera so that half the unit isn't hidden when you reach to adjust the knobs! We want to see the knobs while you're adjusting
I've been after a decent compressor for a while now but everything I want costs more than £2k. Even some of the 500series stuff while cheaper is still expensive once you account for the cost of the modular chassis to put it in. This Drawmer however has piqued my interest. I think it sounds awesome and will work well for my drum bus. Love the saturation. I wouldn't use it on the master bus though.
Hi There! Thanks for doing this video! Just a question or you......Could I use the 1978 at line level, and put my electric guitar signal through it? Some people I know use a DBX 160 for this application, but I like that the 1978 has an EQ feature.....Thanks for your help! :)
At any rate, the rnc tends to screw up bass. Also, I'd say it traverses the line between "transparent" and anemic. Tho not ugly. Like one of those victorian chicks with milky opaque skin.. Good for very pointy, small sounding mixes. Strap it to the outs of a roland sc-55 if you want that late80s/early 90s low budget x-mas gm-banger vibe.
I've known about the freq for ages. There are other videos with that freq, but not all. The reason its there is to much to go in to here. The Arp one produced an 18k freq. A colony of Ants moved out of my house in disgust. I also have 24/7 Tinnitus. Now that would be actually very disturbing if I let it bother me. I chose not to because as an old crazy dude I have acquired some wisdom. :)
I am very impressed with Drawmer as a company. This has now been added to my studio shopping list. 👍🏻
I took a chance on the Drawmer 1970 2 ch preamp di comp and it is stellar!! This vid really shows the 1978 well.
Everyone needs to do demos like this. Cheers mate.
This is the best demo of this compressor I've found on RUclips 👍Nice one pal
love this demo, very cool comp too!
Best demo of any hardware compressor I have seen on youtube. Would have been great if you demoed the sidechain feature.
I will be doing that in a future video. Sidechaining with hardware gives a very different vibe so gotta do a vid on that soon.

That is totally pumping... really improves the groove! Nice one... Drawmer 1978 added on my never ending list of gear I need! :)
I feel you brother
What you think about Pro MB??
good demonstration of the compressor and nice track there👍
:-) nice one, nice unit too, old raver like myself - tip of the hat
Sweet demo...thanks so much

Banger stuff
Just got my 1978, this is really helpful, thanks! except for your arm in the way for most of the dialling in! hehe
How does it sound with vocals..and wod tou recommend tracking vocals through it?
Thanks for the vid man, got mine yesterday, just pair it with the spl vitalizer mk2 and works wonderfully. I like the fact that it can be very transparent.
I agree, great all round compressor. A modern-day workhorse.
Great informative demo.
Great video...ill be trying to ckeck compressors for electronic edm music..but 99,99% videos is for rock or pop.

very good!!!!
IMPRESSIVE VIDEO CLIP, QUICK QUESTION WHAT SIDECHAIN CABLES DID YOU USE TO ACTIVATE USE OF THE EQ SECTION ?

Not sure I would need to do another demo in the future but if I do I will use some acoustic drums.
is the Drawmer Gate DS201 better suited to sculpt the pumping effect?
How’s it sound on vocals 🔥
Great video! I was wondering if this is something you would use only on your mix bus or would you also you this for other group channels?
It's a great all-rounder workhorse so you can use it anything.
Really great demo!

someone knows how it compares to the Behringer Composer PRO-XL MDX2600 2-channel?
What would be a 10? :)
the wide setting wont be doing much to your example since it doesnt have much side signal, the setting focuses the sidechain on the mids
I dont get it you turn the Bypass on and i think - that sound much better than the compressed Signal :( perhaps its youtube. I dont know..
How would it compare to the "distressor"?
Much more subtle. Distressor is much better at instant vibe. The Drawmer is more of an all-purpose workhorse which can give some vibe
how does it perform regarding SOUND QUALITY compared to more expensive compressors (e.g. button pressing artefacts ...)?
I don't know, never had a hardware SSl comp. I would wager just as good though.
epi 2500? @@MOOTANT1
@@MOOTANT1 thank you. would you recommend using the "Drawmer 1978 Stereo Fet Compresso" to commercial producers for their clients?
STOP IT I CANT STPEND A THOUSAND DOLLARS RN AAAAAAAAAAAAAA
OMG IT LIGHTS THE VU METERS RED WHEN U TURN UP THE SATURATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAA
why not just using the FMR RNC instead for sidechain, beging much more affordable?
RNC is really only for level control, no mojo to be found there. Better off using Klanghelm MJUC in the box if that's your only stereo hardware comp.
At any rate, the rnc tends to screw up bass. Also, I'd say it traverses the line between "transparent" and anemic. Tho not ugly. Like one of those victorian chicks with milky opaque skin.. There is a very high pitched noise going on in this video, I guess around 15kHz... I know you old dudes can't hear it but it's very disturbing
You could be right but as I can't hear it I don't care about your 'disturbance'
@@MOOTANT1 maybe use spectrum analyzer and try to get rid of it in your next videos man. Wish you best

it's annoying that your hand is in the way all the time :)
why not use (more affordable) plug-in?
Pfff. Go watch a plug in video.
@@MrRoskoPeko well, anyway, is the "question" still not legitimate? 😉

Plugins suck, thats why
Plug-ins will never be as good as authentic, analog circuitry. Very big difference.
