They took advantage of the cave and used it as a shell to protect the temple structure from exposure in the outdoor and from harsh weather, thanks to that this temple is not in the bad shape, it's not damaged much despite of being abandoned. I'm a person who likes to hold on to the past, I always feel sad and miss the past when seeing the deserted houses, deserted architectures or the ruins of the past which reminding me of the once glorious ancient civilization. Nowadays, the young Chinese people prefer to live and work in the city, they left behind the elderly people living in the rural and remoted areas, when all those elderly pass away those areas becomes deserted without a soul. Well at least Chinese youngsters nowadays do not go round destroying temples and other ancient artifacts like they did during the dreadful Cultural Revolution back in the 60s.

It would also generate more income for the villagers.
