    What? If a hitchhiker was 'getting on his nerves' why not put him out of the car or leave him at a rest/gas stop? WTF? And I have to wonder if Jack was killed earlier and taken to Alaska as a dead body. Thank you for doing this.

    • @j.munday7913
      @j.munday7913 2 года назад +39

      Right? And why supposedly wait until he's almost to their destination to kill him? I think Jesse was actually lying (shocking I know) and projected it onto his victim. I have a feeling the second his victim nodded off he was slain.

    • @bluevioletandlilac
      @bluevioletandlilac 2 года назад +28

      This is pure speculation, no evidence whatsoever, but maybe there was a failed sexual advance on the part of the killer that he didn't want to admit to making, so he just came up with some stupid, nonspecific "motive"? It's happened plenty of times with female hitchhikers.

    • @THE_Dodge_Morningstar
      @THE_Dodge_Morningstar 2 года назад +13

      @@bluevioletandlilac That's exactly what I was thinking. To remember soooo many details about how he looked, down to the socks he was wearing, but no specific details about what happened or what was said in that car over two days. Taking the hitcher all the way to Alaska, when the place he was determined to go along the way. Hell, just the idea of agreeing to take a total stranger on a two day road trip. Saying he "lied alot" and "got on his nerves". Immediately confessing. The whole story is suspect.

    • @828enigma6
      @828enigma6 2 года назад +6

      You are making an assumption creeps like the killer have the same values, morals, and though processes we, as normal people, have. They don't. Hopefully, none of us would kill someone just because "they got on our nerves".

    • @HappyBeezerStudios
      @HappyBeezerStudios 7 месяцев назад

      Jesse's story indeed sounds off.
      Not asking his name?
      Disposing of his ID but not any of the other things?
      Jack spontaneously deciding to go to Alaska?
      Killing him being the first thought of how to get rid of an annoying hitchhiker? Not leaving him?
      All of that doesn't make sense. The name would be among the first things to ask, right next to asking why they're going there. The normal kind of smalltalk to ease the situation between two strangers.
      Now the claim that Jack lied, okay, I can accept that. Telling some tall tales. There are people like that.

    Just a little interesting information; good false eyes cost a lot of money, but you need a prosthetic to keep the muscles and the socket in good shape, which is why Jack had the marble which he probably used to keep the muscles and socket in trim, even if it didn´t look like a real eye. He had some kind of medical and rehab care to get that information, even if he didn´t get a proper prosthetic, or he lost the one he got and couldn´t replace it, so perhaps he had access to a VA or work insurance (not so likely doing logging, more likely if he was doing mill work). that last is pure guess work.
    My guess is the killer ran into him in Canada, or going from Oregon to Alaska. It´s safer and easier to transport a living, cooperative person in the car than a dead person who can get you busted if you are caught. Perhaps Jack had money on him from working a job, money in American dollars or a paycheck and they needed it paid out in an American state before the killer took him out in Tok and dumped him. Tok is a tourist town and probably has lots of places to pay out money and a high turnover of people. Jackmight have offered topay for the ride when they could get the check paid out, and sealed his fate.

      I think searching US and Canadian VA type records would be such a smart move. That wound had to be treated & missing eyes from trauma rather than cancer aren’t that common. Often if you’ve been wounded badly enough to lose the eye, you’ve lost your life. And we know it must have been an eye injury because evidence of the lost eye was left in the skull… so likely a remodeled orbital fracture is evident on the skull, probably multiple, where a chain or something heavy lashed across the eye socket or where a blade sliced the socket vs puncturing the eye.

    I hope that One eyed Jack will get his identity back someday soon. I feel that we can't believe Jesse's story. One thing I do think is that he was killed way before arriving at Alaska then dumped there. I also believe Jesse knew his name. How can you be in a car with someone for two days and not know their name? Obviously there is more to the story than what Jesse said. Stay safe we love you too!

    It is interesting what you said as well about how the authorities seem pretty certain he had lost an eye while still alive (I mean even if there was some pretty serious damage to the bone surrounding the eye I can only imagine it would have had to be very extreme for them to be able to say that...the human body can be very interesting at times and it makes me wonder if there was some excessive bone healing around the eye socket which might have made it impossible to even wear a glass eye at the time?). I know you also mentioned they have a lot of 'evidence' that is not released to the public (maybe one of the things being how exactly they know he mostly was missing an eye while still alive). Hope this poor soul gets his name back soon!

      if you look up One-Eyed Jack's case online, you can find a picture of the reconstruction process for one of his composites (the one covering his lower jaw), and you can see his left eye socket appears more deformed compared to the right one. I'm not familiar with bones or damage so I can't say anything about bone healing or how it would make him appear, but I thought I'd bring it up :)

The other thing that struck me as being VERY strange is the fact that this man so easily confessed to murder when most murderers wiggle and wriggle to avoid a well deserved murder charge. Was he looking for free room and board? It wouldn't be the first time. We have a case like that here in Canada .

I used to work in the court, and I saw my share of people whose toxicity was so great that family and friends didn't care if they left or not. Jack may have been a really nice guy and he may not have been. Being an unknown corpse doesn't mean he was loved. As far as his corpse being scattered; youi can add to the possible culprits, coyotes, badgers, wolverines, bears, and wolves. We're just on the menu up there.

    As an avid hitch hiker - there is one piece of this puzzle that is most important.
    The most important fact in this case is that Jesse had to get Jack through Canada and back into US soil to get him to Alaska. That's two boarder patrol crossings where people keep record of who went in and out.
    I have hitchhiked across country lines before (mostly in Europe). So I know that to get Jack across the boarder, it happened one of two ways. 1. Jack was not visible to boarder patrol and Jesse took the risk of smuggling him in - dead or alive - or 2. Jack had to show proof of ID to a boarder patrol agent. Today it would be a passport but maybe back then a state ID or drivers license might be enough.
    In option 2. I have always seen where the other passenger keeps their ID. We all have to take them out when a boarder patrol agent asks for them. We all have to put them away. It is absurd to me that Jesse could not know where the ID is unless Jack was being smuggled in. Have we found the car or Jack's belongings? His ID should be in there. Its a rare hitchhiker that will hitchhike with no pack. I don't know any hitchhikers that would travel to cold locations where they don't know anyone without a backpack at least. You either hold it on your lap etc. or it's put in the trunk or back seat to make everyone comfortable. Jesse should remember..
    And did the boarder patrol agents not record who had gone in and out? Do they not have record of Jesse and someone going into Canada with their names attached? I know it's not recent but still. You'd imagine that there'd be something.
    So, smuggling in, option 1... there's usually a reason why. Either Jack couldn't legally go to Canada or he didn't have his ID or there was a fee for getting into Canada... or he was already dead.
    Now, smuggling a dead body in through Canada and then back to the USA through Alaska... that's the work of a daredevil who practically wants to get caught. It doesn't make sense for Jesse to then drop Jack off in the wilderness so that Jesse would never get caught. Either he has other motives or Jesse doesn't act rationally. Something is going on with his brain.
    I propose the theory that he was a bold dare devil smuggling a body through Canada, hoping to get caught and then in his disappointment dumping the body and belongings separately.
    This is a very odd case. And I think that it's fueled by mental illness.

      Don't forget that with the adoption of the Schengen Area in 1995 most european countries don't have any border controls between them.
      But even with border checks I doubt they would record who exactly went in and out. They would only check that they're allowed to, and if all is fine, let them move.

    I have to agree with a previous comment, regarding Jack having been dead in the car before he was eventually dumped. As far as the ID card goes, I'm thinking it might have been left in the car or lost in the car and later discovered and just tossed out on the road later when found. Quite possibly the murderer may have kept the card and tried to use it for himself later in Alaska (for whatever reason-- did he have a previous record, etc or a warrant for his arrest?) I hope they are able to work his DNA for a match. Thanks for the great work--- and a happy and healthy new year to you!

    It is my opinion that he was a foster child from the baby boomer period, and had served in Viet Nam after aging out of the system. This would explain where he had no "loved ones" to inquire after him. I think the authorities should use reverse-aging process to determine approximately what he would have looked like in his late teens, early twenties, and then send check foster system cases in the states he claimed to have lived in; also compare it to enlisted men from Viet Nam.

Does anyone know if police looked into Idaho worker's comp claims or workplace accidents that resulted in someone losing an eye? It seems really specific and rare (at least I'd hope) of something to happen. Something that rare should have some kind of record, even if it was just a hospital bill.

      @ohlookapan2726 2 года назад +10

      @@j.munday7913 I definitely thought about that, but I feel like that is pretty unlikely. Unless he came to the country illegally for work (which could be totally possible), there would be a more concrete record of him being here. He would be on the government's radar. If there were more concrete evidence of this, hypothetically saying that he was, the police likely could've found him by now. Not finding the ID with him is really frustrating, as I feel like there would be some mention of that on that card. Though if we found that, he'd be identified by now. If he were planning to travel, and he were indeed from another country, I imagine he'd carry a passport with him all the time.
      That does make me wonder about his car, if he had one. If he wanted to drive or travel to another state, that car has to be somewhere. Though if he did in fact choose to hitchhike like Bishop said, that car could be anywhere or it could be nowhere.

      What many people don't take into account is that it is expensive to exhume remains and run DNA. If there are no funds available and law enforcement is not on board with finding out, then it's unlikely to happen. I don't know where that stands in this case, but there would have to be sufficient interest and funds first.

    My guess on why he went to Alaska was for work. He was supposedly an experienced logger. Losing an eye would effect depth perception & limit his options but there are still jobs in the industry that he'd have been qualified for. And, you could make a lot more money logging in Alaska than Oregon.
    I'm in Washington, I've had friends & family in logging & fishing and I've seen people go to Alaska for both because the pay is better. Usually (especially in the past) because the working conditions are worse, the jobs /scheduling is more intense and often they'd be assigned bunk house style accommodations. Nothing fancy, sometimes not even comfortable, with no privacy & rental charges too high for what they got but still much less than in the lower 48.
    People often go seasonally to work & return with enough cash that they don't have to work the rest of the year. It's perfect for transient people since almost no one stays year round. There's not much to do, other jobs are scarce & permanent family housing was difficult to find (I also knew a few women who went to work as strippers for all the same reasons plus the lack of women in the area. They'd go up for a month or two & come back set for a year.)
    If I had the skillet & I'm heading home to Oregon and a guy offers a ride to Alaska, I'd probably jump on it.

I've never heard of the Nigerian dwarfs but I will look them up. I am aware that there are many additional hoops to jump through though with respect to imports and some exports with respect to Australia. I am a vegetarian and I never eat my friends however if a boutique farmer has an organic dairy product created at no harm to the animal I will indulge, but having given that caveat I understand that goats are eaten in most of the world. I make custard ice cream and cream cheese mostly from it and have a waiting list of friends and family any extra. They bring much joy though, sadly, heartache when one is lost. I'm not a big meat eater but could never eat goat meat! I have friends who have (traveling out of the country) and am very aware that most of the boys go to freezer camp. I've been very fortunate to have found pet homes for my boys.
      I kept one exceptional buckling intact and sold him to a farm for their breeding buck. I also got one of his daughters to keep his line going here. I have 0.3 of an acre so the yard is big enough for the three I am allowed (city code). The neighbors love them. Mine are quiet so people didn't know I had them unless they actually saw them which is cool.
      For their size, Nigerian Dwarf goats give more milk than any other dairy animal. Mine are from a great dairy line so have had exceptional production and high butter fat (more cheese per ounce of milk).

    A fascinating story. I am a retired science teacher. Using critical thinking my students used forensic science and a unit we called ‘whodunnit?’. We had descriptive crime scenes and provided them with forensic evidence. In small groups they’d work together to solve the crimes. I had a very talented friend who was a forensic artist and came to our classes as a guest speaker every year. He explained his job in a very colorful but tasteful way. He worked for the sheriffs office, Maricopa County Arizona circa 1990 and helped identify John and Jane Does. He had a notebook with him with case files he’d worked on and he spoke with us about his findings. His departments success rate in identifying John and Jane Does were very high. It was a spine tingling and fascinating presentation. One year one of my students revealed that he had a prosthetic eye and even popped it out for us. If the prosthetic eye was found with the body I’m betting it would’ve had an identification on it.
    Glad I found you!

And I doubt he was ruled out by dental records because I assume if one eyed Jack was missing his Jawbone, wouldn't all his bottom teeth likely be missing with it? Therefore, they wouldn't have been able to get a full dental profile for one eyed Jack.
