We do Judo seriously and run for the olympics gold. All Sensei Jimmy and Chuck said what we are doing. But still missing part for us is fund. Three of Yang Bros can't make dream come true unless we don't find fund. So sad 😭😭😭 Too many international championships ahead of us. God, someone help us. 🏃➡️🏃➡️🏃➡️🏃➡️🥇
If Judo is to survive and go forward, it needs to adapt. This does not mean the technical side of what Judo is changes, but Judo is MORE than competition. Teach Judo as both sport and defense. Make people aware of the sport side and knowledgeable of the rules. If you want Judo to grow, think outside the box. For the last several decades it has been seen as exclusively a sport and that is wrong. Nowhere in any of his writings did Jigoro Kano say "this is for competition alone and nothing else." Rank and rank certification of both kyu and dan grades NEED to become standardized across the country. USA Judo is and always will be the weakest of the organizations in American because it does not teach the full art. Thank you.
I have to respectfully disagree with what Jimmy suggests here about putting kids in their mid-teens into a "professional" Judo program that focuses on Judo to the extent that all else in the kids' lives is side-lined. Chasing an Olympic dream, or anything so "big", to the exclusion of all else, is a 100% contradiction of Kano's aim of Judo producing a rounded, mature human being. At one point here, Jimmy suggests that part of kids' lives in the kind of program he is suggesting would be to have education take place online. While the Covid lockdowns have shown this is possible, there is no doubt - and once again, Kano the educator, would agree here (take a look at his writings if you do not believe me) - that one of the prime benefits of kids' attending school with each other is gaining socialization skills. As a psychotherapist who worked with teenagers for over 20 years, it is obvious to me that, in addition to goals, kids' need a healthy variety of experiences, not just one or two primary experiences in life.
If you want to win an Olympic medal, that is what it takes. He doesn't mean all kids should do this, just the ones who are meant for this very specific thing.
I agree with that so I think all teens in all Olympic sports should try to have this model of school day (with a little more school in the balance than those dagestanis had) and just have an Olympic training boarding school. Lol jk I’m just throwing shit out there I’m no expert on any subject but I’d like to hear what someone else has to say about that idea
So you're an Olympic champion really how much success is that? Become a doctor, entrepreneur or scientist....waaaaaay better return on your time and impact on the world, and financial opportunities...frankly sports is kinda a suckers bet on giving up your youth

Ronda Rousey was a great marketing gem for Judo and it was squandered.
Jimmy's point is spot on generally. Olympic results require Olympic-sized commitment. Look at the results women's gymnastics gets.

Agree missing your youth is silly
