Thank you Lee for taking us on these journeys. So many of these locations were nothing but a name that I often wondered what they were really like. Now we not only see the venue but a "backstage pass" guided by our favorite guy. There are not enough words for how appreciative I am...Thank you, Lee
McMenamins Grand Lodge is located at 3505 Pacific Ave in Forest Grove, Oregon 97116-2017 was built in 1922 as a Masonic and Eastern Star home, with stately columns, a winding drive, a wide green lawn, with 77 European-style rooms, resturants, movie theather, and small bars and some of the most fantastic artwork to grace the walls and sits on 13 gorgeous Oregon acres. Renovated and reopended my McMenamins in 2000, what was a once tranquil scene is now vibrant and colorful. Here the walls do speak as to the wallways, the doorways and even the overhead pipes. Inspired by the building itself and the history of the city of Forest Grove and the building itself, McMenamins artists have infused the Grand Lodge with original artwork and historical photographs - all tributes to the cast of characters who have left their mark. Today, the GVrand Lodge is alive with artwork, live music, special events, a day spa, small bars, a soaking pool, a theather, expansive grounds and beautiful gardens. The wide and extremely large lawn can hold 3,000 concert goers and every seat is a good seat !
Thanks Philip!
👍
@@Mark_Brooks My pleasure.
Lee comes busting up in there, running the magnetometer, like a boss.
These sneak-ups on Brad are almost Hitchcockian...you need a "Psycho" shower scene soundtrack! 😱
I live a 1.5 mile from there. I'm sorry I couldn't make it.
Ask Brad about the practice rooms in the basement in Bruce Hall or dorm we were in at North Texas. They looked like refrigerators or porti potties. So I thought maybe Brad was practicing in the porti potties like old times.
I’ve played there. It was wonderful!
At least you don't get boring jumping from an Art Deco theater, to an open field or a smokey joint. Different crowd, different vibe.
Have a good one tonight.
🤟👍🖕
😁😁 Thanks for the tour!!!! Not familiar with the location but feel confident that when I get a chance to look at the comments there will be 411.
VIDEO CONCEPT!!!!!! When you are doing a bass line for somebody you know well, maybe you could ask them if they would allow you to play what they have sent you on your channel; you could play us what they send and then your bass line set to it?
Tommy was Trombone
This is close to where I’m at right now. If I didn’t have plans for tonight I would talk my wife into showing up for the concert.
If you're a student of Brad.... I'm guessing there's not a lot of excuses when you see a guy who is excessively in the woodshed doing a major tour.
Thank you Lee for the great videos!
I was at the show tonight and it sounded like Lyle was losing his voice. What happened? 😮
We have done a lot of shows with few breaks.
@@lelandsklar6363I'm glad to hear it was only that! Lyle has touched my heart with the subtleties of his voice, and it sounds like he'll be back in shape soon! You must be heading to Bend today. I look forward to your video; I've never been there. Thank you!
Looks like another nice venue. That must have been Charles and Brad playing The Lark Descending. 😂😂❤
"V" for "look, no valves!"
Lee I hope your bus and the stage are air conditioned. Thanks for the Oregon tour the past few days. Which stop was your favorite? Just curious. Live in the area and all the McMenamin's have a story to tell.
nah,
Tommy used to work on the docks,
Jimmy put his six string in hock..
So I'm getting bots asking me to chat with you 🧐🤨🙄 !
I reported the request 😵💫🙃
Lee…. You should get a humanitarian award for what you’ve been doing. You are humanizing/demystifying the magic of presenting quality music to people all over the world. Such a gift for everyone, especially hardcore music fans! Lovin’ what you do. Thank you so much. Looking forward to seeing you in a Charlottesville, Virginia soon!
Hello how are you doing
Hello from Richmond!
Tommy Dorsey was one of the great Big Band leaders transforming the trombone into the lead melodic instrument by utilising the upper register! He gave Frank Sinatra his big break but wouldn’t relinquish him from his contract until he received an offer he couldn’t refuse! Even as a joke it’s hard to play the alto saxophone that badly 😂
Glad you’re handling this unprecedented, expansive heat wave. (The new norm). It’s perfect weather for an evening outdoor concert, enjoy.
"Got a ticket?" 🤣
Thanks for sharing! And then the scam artists reply acting as you. Folks beware of the scams!
😎 Oh cool, Forest Grove! I lived in Hillsboro the next city over for 2 years in the early 80s and still have family there.
Wow you make a good point here and I agree with you,Hello how are you doing
Stop scarying Brad ...sneaking up behind you..he knows where to find the good reverberations...what a beautiful venue again...its very hot hear in northern ca..106..too hot. What a wonderful crew you get to hang with...yahoo.!!!!
Mcmenamins fan here. Hope you can have some fun finding the hidden rooms in the Lodge.
(Oh! And bassist and lifelong fan of YOURS, Lee! Thank you for all your videos and albums and shows. Thank you!!)
Tommy Dorsey -- trombone. Jimmy Dorsey -- clarinet & alto sax. Splitting up in 1935, Tommy eventually had Frank Sinatra on vocals while Jimmy had Bing Crosby, Ray Eberly & Helen O'Connell as the featured singers. They reconciled near the end of WW2.
Tommy Dorsey played Trombone. Jimmy played alto sax and clarinet. I did some touring with the Tommy Dorsey tribute/ghost band in the 80s. 17 of us on 1 Bus! Anyway the story goes the great Charlie Parker was watching the short lived Dorsey Bros TV show, laughed at a joke and caused him to go into cardiac arrest. Another great reminder kids to stay off drugs.
'The official causes of death were lobar pneumonia and a bleeding ulcer, but Parker also had an advanced case of cirrhosis and had suffered a heart attack. The coroner who performed his autopsy mistakenly estimated Parker's 34-year-old body to be between 50 and 60 years of age.' wiki
@@artemisXsidecrossAlice Kooper said 'Live fast, die young', thankfully Alice (Vincent) is still around, out ⛳ Golfing somewhere! 💖 🤗 ⛳
Tommy Dorsey played the trombone. Frank Sinatra, during his time as Dorsey's boy singer, claimed to learn his breathing technique from watching Dorsey play, thus giving Frank his wonderful phrasing.
I was about to mention this, Terry ... and then noticed that you already had!! 🙂
Whilst I'm in danger of repeating myself, and repeating others' comments ... yet another really beautiful venue and fascinating behind the scenes video. Thank you, Lee 🙏
Man, that feedback is killing my ears……yikes….
Oh gosh I’m 30 minutes from ya there.
Leland, you are the consummate tour guide and these venue visits have been fantastic. Thank you so much for taking the time to introduce us to places most of us would have never seen. And introduce us to wonderful musicians. How about a short weather report as you begin. Just local temperatures perhaps. Such a treat to watch each one. Thanks !!
Bro's probably got a virtual soundcheck saved on the desk. That way he can start with a rough baseline for the show
Nice video always good...😂
👍
What, he asked you for the ticket sir? 😀
Four more days. Four more days until you come to Calgary❤. I promise that if I see you around Jack Singer Hall I won't ask you for proof of ticket 😊
Report the Telegram trolls as harassing you.
I report them as promoting terrorism
I do each time they show up and report it as spam 👍
Hoping you are enjoying my lovely state. Wished I could have caught one of the shows but life and work conflicted....have fun!
You're just down the road from me... sorry I'm not there to see y'all.
Hope the heat isn't too miserable there.
Enjoy! And be good to you!
Built in 1922 as a Masonic & Eastern Star home, the Grand Lodge has stories to tell. Renovated and opened by McMenamins in 2000, what was once tranquil and serene is now vibrant and colorful. Here the walls do speak... As do the doorways, the hallways, and even the overhead pipes. (Look up...)Inspired by the history of the city of Forest Grove and the building itself, McMenamins' artists have infused the Grand Lodge with original artwork and historical photographs - all tributes to the cast of characters who left their mark before us.
The building was originally constructed as a Masonic home in the 1920s, and was briefly the site of an orphanage. McMenamins became the custodian of the property in 1999, renovating and reopening it as McMenamins Grand Lodge in 2000.
In 1917, plans were developed for the Masonic and Eastern Star Home for the State of Oregon, and construction began in 1920. It was established as a home for Masons and their families in need, and began operations in 1922. Initial construction costs were estimated at $245,000. A smaller building, called the Children's Cottage, was built in 1926 to house orphans, but the orphanage closed in 1928 after conflict between the children and the elders.
Throughout the 1930s, the home struggled financially. The building suffered roof damage in 1962 after the Columbus Day Storm. In 1999 the Masons began building new facilities with the intention of moving out of the original Masonic Home and Children's Cottage. McMenamins began renovations fall 1999, and reopened the building as McMenamins Grand Lodge in March 2000.
As of 2010, the Grand Lodge had 77 European-style rooms, and a historian on its staff. The interior of the hotel - including walls, doors, posts, and ceilings - had been redecorated into a gallery reflecting the local history, "often in whimsical fashion". In 2017, the McMenamins added 22 new rooms, upgraded 23 other rooms, and added a new bar.
The McMenamins Grand Lodge has 90 guestrooms and is known for its "quirky" character. Each bedroom features unique decorations honoring a different literary author, with hand-painted headboards that bring their books to life. In June 2022, Portland Monthly magazine reported that McMenamins Grand Lodge had "two restaurants, three bars, a hotel, a spa, a movie theatre, a disc gold course, and generally lush, walkable grounds."
@@Mark_BrooksWow, you are thorough. Thanks
@@slipperynoodle20 Hi Tom!
@@Mark_Brooks Hey, Mark.
After paning through the forest at the beginning and hearing that hi pitch squeal from the p.a. I thought we were going to see aliens or Big Foot or some other cryptid!
the Sax man loves the sonics in the different places . reverberation
is the thing
It must be awfully warm in those trailers that Brad rehearses in!
Tommy was the Tromboniest, Jimmy played Sax and Clarinet.
Thanks Rick 💖 🎷 🎺
Watching this video helped me with another walk Lee. Amy has a smile and personality that just lights up everywhere she is. Every time I hear Brad l keep wanting him to do the best Pink Panther theme ever. Enjoy every moment and take care Lee. Hi to everyone.🖐🙃
I have a confirmed hotel reservation for August 5th, the Wolf Trap concert in Virginia.

@@artemisXsidecross Hi Artemis!
Great! Let’s hook up there.
I appreciate you, thank you for making content.
Got to see you Lee from the other way around on Lamont’s video! That was fun to see ,you , Amy & Lamont in a face off!!
✌️♥️
Ps- Amy is so pretty just sitting on a swing chillin!
Man, you're going to give poor Brad a coronary one of these days.
Thank you Lee !!!!🖐🏻
Is the show recorded too Lee? Is it possible to watch some footage of the show? Where can we find it. Thank you.
It that I am aware of…
Search Lyle Lovett July 2023 and you should find some excellent audience videos.

You were not far off:
"...A blistering and deadly heat wave is sweeping Europe, potentially bringing record-breaking temperatures and raising serious concerns about the impacts on people’s health, especially as the continent welcomes an influx of tourists.
Parts of Spain, France, Greece, Croatia and Italy are all facing intense heat, with temperatures rising above 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit).
“Temperatures are sizzling across Europe this week amid an intense and prolonged period of heat. And it’s only just begun,” the European Space Agency (ESA) said in a statement.
Heat is one of the deadliest natural hazards - more than 61,000 people died in Europe’s searing summer heat wave last year.
In Italy, temperatures could reach record-breaking levels. Sardinia and Sicily are expected to be close to the current European temperature record of 48.8 degrees Celsius (nearly 120 Fahrenheit), according to the ESA..." CNN 7/14/23
The last couple of places you've played have almost a RenFair atmosphere to them! Perfect Summer "Fare".
Renfair! 🤣
Thanks for sharing the fun Lee!
I have noticed that most of your Band colleagues practise their instruments in their downtime , Mr Sklar , yet you seem to leave your own stuff for the concert ? Is it like Ralph Kramden once said .... no sense in going over what you already know ? Har har har de har har !
Noticed discussion of filming the load out earlier. If you do something like that, I hope you'll have a plan for getting enough food and fluid during the process.
beautiful
wow a boulder throw this time , did ya bring a hammer with you ? wishing a good party !!!!
Hey Lee, please have someone do a time lapsed video of the crew setting up and breaking down the stage. That would be uber cool. Keep up the great work of your tour archive.
We are not here for the load in and set up. Will see what is possible for load out.
@@lelandsklar6363
That would be real cool. Those guys break their backs real hard.
Give them my regards all the way from Mexico City.
@@lelandsklar6363 I think Jimmy played alto and Tommy played the Trombone. And man, both of them were smooth. Sadly, neither one could ever overcome their personal demons. Love your video clips, Lee. I hope you continue them for the remainder of your travels.
Great idea. I always wondered how they could set up a stage and a tent-city, lights, sound in a few hours and then take it all down and on the the next night's show. Must be exceedingly hard work--even if there were duplicate crews that leap-frogged over each other. What a brutal schedule.
@lelandsklar6363 Thank you for sharing your life with all of us. Off topic question-did you play on J Browne’s “Running on Empty” that was recorded at the Meriwether Post Pavilion? I love that heartbeat bass line.
There's feedback in them bushes! 😂
See on the poster Dead South playing there soon uses a cello in quite a different way these venues are pretty cool
You get him every time😂😂😂😂😂
Hi Leland, And yet another completely different outdoor venue…Been watching the weather, soaring temps…don’t seem to be affecting the cool places where people gather to enjoy live music…. Wishing you all happy days! 😊😊😊Change in Keyboard,I’m still figuring out…..puts a damper on the love…,but, I’m all in with y’all…❤❤❤❤❤😊
Oregon is pronounced "Ore Gun"
Excellent point you make,Hellohow are you doing
Just remember: (1) There's no "e" on the end; (2) It's not gone; and (3) it's not going anywhere! 😉
Hello! Late here in Colorado !
Trying to keep up with you 😊
Another beautiful place! Was going to ask if it was warm!
💜👩💜 🎺🎺🎷🎷 It's Brad 😁
Thanks, Leland.
Por favor consider increases in fluid intake, fresh fruits and vegetables maybe even cooling stations and other relief measures as heat wave forecasted to continue. Nice walking through Forest Grove Oregon, many 😊 thanks!
@hanspeterlillese2225 Much better, Hans, thank you. 'Calcific tendinopathy' . . .deltoid tendinitis. Can lift and reach now, guddkeluv! Think that manipulation and positioning for the Xray positively effected gleno-humeral space. 💕 And, you? Regarding subject of distortion any thoughts on audio edit software? Happy Sunday!
Gudskeluv!
@hanspeterlillese2225 Good News all around, Hans, Thank Goodness! 💕 (I don't recall 🤔 there were plug-in modules with home recording. . .)
Master, it occurs to me that a beautiful documentary could be made just by compiling these videos. Something like "On the road with Leland Sklar." It also seems that you are good at cinematography.
I like going back to 1310, soundcheck with Sierra Hull, and of course the Red Rocks was epic.
Morning Leland, tour time👍👍

Lee, is that the great Amy Keys on the swing?
Yes!
We need to make a montage of you sneaking up on Brad and seeing his surprise reaction! 8:35
Lee, just wondering ... do you know any of the actors or writers on strike?
Lots
Do background actors even make minimum wage?
@@kateconway-hickman5945
They are 'extras':
'How much do extras get paid? A common rate for a single day of background work is between $100 and $200, though extras are paid differently depending on their union status. Generally, nonunion talent will be hired for either a 10- or 12-hour day, with additional pay provided should production run overtime.'
In some low budget indy productions/some music videos some extra work isn't paid at all (they may use people looking for something to put on their resume, etc.).

OMG...the sneak-up on Brad was perfection!! lol Probably not so great for his blood pressure, however! lol ♥🎶♥

No

Thank you for these visits and I imagine what appeared as metal detectors are current American Safety icons.
These big open fields are timeless for gatherings and seems like a challenge for the sound engineers to balance out feedback.
I like the Trombone and liked listening to J. J. Johnson an American jazz trombonist, composer and arranger.
Does Brad play along with what he is listening on his IEM when we hear him practice?
Much appreciation for these walks at the venue. 👍
