I legit look up to you in the same way I do Dali, Monet and Van Gogh. What you do is pure goals for me. I want to do what you are doing. You inspire others
Can you please go into detail on how to get funded and paid for your work? I really want to become a full-time artist, i appreciate you for sharing your knowledge with us man!
for the longest ive been shown overly complicated systems or just proposals that just brag instead of these vital parts that confused me and made me feel like i couldn't make my own proposals but its really simple and i have had all the skills i needed to grow as an independent artist. thank you so so much for this really easy breakdown u have no idea what u just unlocked in me im eternally grateful.
If you find the rep of the paint company usually you can talk to them about sponsorship our discounts for your work. You can always do a LinkedIn search for the rep or ask the local paint shop who reps a particular brand of paint. Having a portfolio about how you use the paint is always great to show them
Thanks for the video! I'm an elementary art teacher and was told I could do a few murals in the new school building but need a proposal. They don't have any themes or any limits so it's a but overwhelming, any tips of how to narrow down a topic?
That’s awesome!!!!!!! I would say to paint a bout a topic that could be educational so that the students would always gain from it or something that can involve the students as well but easy to manage.
Detour, I am the High school Art Teacher at Kokomo High School, IN. My students and I are exploring interior murals for our high school. I would love to connect with you in some way. Especially since your relevance to one of our mural artists here in Kokomo will catch students attention. is there an email or some way to reach you?
you can reach me at iamdetour@gmail.com. i cant promise anything because my schedule is slammed but i can always look it over to see if it may fit or recommend a fellow artist.
I am looking to fund a Street Art Mural in San Francisco on our Business. The artist is very well known and is being paid at a rate comparable to their skill and notoriety. I would love to hear any suggesting you have on getting grants, sponsorships, and partnerships to help fund our project. Thanks!
Yeah buddy!!! This is killer information. So helpful with what i am trying to do by attempting a beatification vandalism clean up on multiple businesses in a town where i live. Ive managed to help 1 business without any proposals by just asking but I’m finding out exactly what you were saying that every owner is different when it comes to the procedure of getting permission. So now the further up hill in the town i go, other owners are less accepting right off the bat. I think this professional approach will help out a lot. Quick question though, when you get sponsors to help fund areas of your project is that typically a local sponsor (i.e. supply store ect.) you established support from a sponsor beforehand? Sorry for the novel. Thank you for your time. Luke
Are usually get financial sponsors to help out. It can be both local and national brands. I also look for grants as well. Grants can be found through your local city or state. There’s quite a few that will fund projects dealing with murals
i did not. it's a rough mock-up and the owner is familiar with my work around town. i would suggest when starting out to do full rendering and add sample whenever you can to help them envision the outcome.
It's always easy to show previous examples of your work alongside an underdeveloped sketch of your proposed wall design. I have to always remember that the client doesnt have the same superpowered creative vision as we artists do. They can't imagine how it's going to look.
I don't have a template for that but in the email, You would use the same thinking in having an : Intro Reason why you contacting them and information to contact you Keep it short because no oen loves long unsolicited emails Also, make it as personable as possible.
Hi..im just a beginner . Wondering in writing your proposal do I need to include my artwork right away with my proposal letter. thank you..I'm your new follower and learning a lot of things since I've watch your video. I don't have confidence and trying to develop it myself.

How do you approach a paint supply company for sponsorship? I have pieces ready I just don't have a lot of materials.

Good stuff Detour.
Is there a way you as an artist can protect a(your) unique idea/concept for a project or mural in your proposal?
What if it’s for a park or any property that is owned by the city? How would I initiate the project?
Yo have to talk to the city. more particularly the city council person or representative over that area.

Do you provide a full color rendering for the building owner’s approval?
i did not. it's a rough mock-up and the owner is familiar with my work around town. i would suggest when starting out to do full rendering and add sample whenever you can to help them envision the outcome.

Great info, thanks for your videos. So, are you not making a profit from your work most of the time if the project is self funded?
Its mostly about breaking even.
do you have any templates for a cold email to a business about possibly painting a mural on their wall.? please help!
