      I do this too, but I create every sim as a randomized sim of the opposite gender then switch them. I find that the randomized faces aren’t truly random, just mixes of preset features, and they use different mixes for men and women. But swapping them once they’re already generated makes them look way less generic and way more interesting.

    @AnnaAnna-hg3qm 4 года назад +579

    I'm a biology student and I love TS2 for the realistic system of the dominant and recesive genes, it's very realistic, but when I play longer in one hood, then I have to use the mod for the equal genetics because in like third generation almost everyone in the hood has brown or black hair and brown eyes and it's not very realistic.
    Also, I'm not really a hard player of TS3, but there happen to be this 10% chance of mutation what is also cool :D

    • @Marticore
      @Marticore 4 года назад +65

    • @teinewitch
      @teinewitch 4 года назад +44

      I also love TS2 genetics but to let the hood be more different with colours of hair and eyes, I sometimes add some recessive genes in SimPE to pre-made Sims. For example take Alexander Goth. I like to change his recessive from brown eyes colour to blue ones - it seems legit for me 'cause Jocasta (Bella's mother) has got these as well as Michael Bachelor.
      I know it can sound like cheating but it makes the hood better in my opinion :)

Husband was dark skintone, green eyes, red hair. They both wanted to marry off 6 kids so they had babies. Every one of them except for the twins had husbands skin and hair color. Eye color changed. The twins were they only ones that mixed it up some. One was dark skintone with blonde hair, the other was tan skintone with red hair. Most of the children from the premade neighborhoods in TS2 were in fact created in CAS and therefore don't really look like their parents. This is also the case of Cassandra and Alexander Goth who don't look one bit like Bella and/or Mortimer. There's genetically correct versions of them (and also Angela and Lilith who therefore have black hair) that people from the community created, I always replace their faces with SimPE whenever I reset Pleasantview. :)

You have a 50/50 chance of getting any feature from either parent (but you can also get features from grandparents or mutations, which are just a set of premade features). Your skin will be the same colour as a random parent, but what shade is based on a blending of the parents' shades (eg. if you have a light blue mom and dark green dad, you can get a light green child).

    I really liked the recessive/dominant genes in Sims 2. Wish the later games had it. Same with sims dying their hair. Never liked that my sims kids could inherit their green highlights in sims 3.

    I’ve always liked how Joe Carr looks and I always have someone marry him, his kids are always mean (in my experience) even if their mother is super nice his kids won’t have more than 5 points in niceness. Again this is just something that always happens to me so it might just be bad luck, or it could be something in his genetics,

I don't play ts4, I play ts3, but when I video call my friend she normally plays ts4 and shares her screen, - she once got a townie called "Asia Lingho" (sort of like that, it was Asia Ling-something). Blue eyes, blond hair, cool toned pale skin. Best part? happened in that city living place, which is based on American cities; there would be no need to name a white American city girl "Asia Lingho".

  • @NawiTheCore
    @NawiTheCore 4 года назад +1

    The Sims 2 had the advantage of having a very small and finite number of possible combinations of hair color, eye color, skin color and facial features. The Sims 3 has a nearly infinite number of combinations thanks to the Create-A-Style tool, which can also be used to create Sims with unnatural/fantasy eye, skin and hair colors. Not to mention the fact that The Sims 3 fully supports body sliders and custom sliders, whereas in The Sims 2 is impossible to add custom sliders or alter the default bodies in any way.
    I do appreciate TS2's genetics, but if I had to choose between realistic genetics and limitless customization, I'd always go for the latter.

    • @wendillon92
      @wendillon92 4 года назад

      They could have, in theory, still used a similar genetics system though. If they had programmed into the game that the game saves the "original" appearance settings of the sim somewhere then they could have had similar (downgraded but similar) genetics to sims 2. The issue with 3 and 4's genetics is it takes the genetics of the parents at the time of birth to create the kid, whereas sims 2 took the original appearance settings it had saved to create the kiddo. Blending would of course have been impossible with all the colour options we had for sims 3, but every other aspect of genetics would have worked perfectly if they had gone about it differently.

    In my game Natasha Una and Malcolm Lamdgraab are together. And they have a child (tbh I was afraid about malcolm’s genetic), but their girl is incredibly beautiful. She has a face template from Natasha, but her hair is blond.
    I didn’t have a look at natasha’s dominant elements in her genetic. But I was surprised to get a beautiful child without any malcolm’s facial features.

    Genetic factors on personalities is just like in real life; genetics may play some role of the probabilities for someone leaning at something in life but it wouldn't always guarantee as the raising and environmental factors plays much larger role in shaping a person's personality! However in Sims 2, it's very much randomized at birth which may not be entirely impossible but unlikely in real life. I know many people who differ a lot from both their parents, especially when it comes to taste in both metaphorical and literal sense. Like my best friend hates licorice but her whole family loves it! The human psyche is still very mysterious and complex for our current understanding.

    I have a question as I'm not sure I noticed, but aren't face features supposed to be recessive too? I mean, they can happen in real life, I saw it first hand and I believe I had a couple of sims who inherited some of their grandparent's traits, like a mouth, nose or eye shape that neither of their parents had.
    There is no mention of this in the game mechanics, but I believe it can happen though it's very rare?
    Also, how do I determine what a dominant face feature is for each sim? Is it random?
    I have this family, they have 4 kids and they all inherited their dad's lips, mother's nose and dad's eye shape. Face shape, chin and cheeks differ.
    I'm using a mod that gets rid of the firstborn syndrome and the kids aren't identical.

    • @Marticore
      @Marticore 2 года назад +2

      No, it doesn't happen, there are no recessive face genes. If you noticed something like that, it's probably because of differences between genders (so for example, the dad didn't look like he had that trait after his mother, but his daughter got it and looks like her grandmother).
      I'd love to know myself how the dominant face features are assigned :D
