    Done ok mate difficult with a 410 I have a 410 pump they are a very tight pattern probably a foot at the most so you have to be bang on and reasonably close enjoyed the vid I also subscribed cheers 👍👍

    I have owned several 12 bore guns and also a couple of .410 over the past 50 years and I found that the .410 cartridge I was using were very fast which meant that I only needed to be a foot in front of the beak on lead at 30 yards, increasing a little more with distance. Your best shots seem to be where you are a foot in front of the beak probably because the birds are quite slow.
    With a 12 gauge cartridge (28 grams ) the shot string is longer/ slower and I could give a yard lead (swinging through) at least at 30 yards and still get a clean kill. Hitting high pheasants (over 50 yards) needs at least 3 yards lead to catch them in the shot string, which of course at that distance is longer again.
    Also the .410 seem to be tighter pattern so you need to be bang on the line of flight. It looks like you are missing in front due to these fast cartridges pushing all the shot in a shorter string at 30 yards, meaning you need less lead at that distance. Notice how the birds are able to flinch backwards sometimes. The .410 is quite tight.
    I think 30 minutes of crossing clays and you would get the feel of that new .410. Best of luck, its just practice.

      Thank you for your comment, I understand what you are saying, but I have been using a 410 myself for 35 years and can use the single barrel to good effect, it's the drainpipe on the end and having to hold your head off the stock that has been my problem (very unnatural). I have pattern plated it and at 20 yards 90% of my shot is below the centre. 👍

    I’m a subscriber and have watched a lot of your other videos - you’re a good shot and the more you use it the better you will get. There looked to be about 20 birds down and they weren’t 20 flukes - it’s just difficult to acquire the knack but once you do it’s a seriously useful tool and enables you to shoot in places otherwise off limits.

      Thanks Graham but it was very frustrating knowing that I would have been killing a lot more with one of my other guns, after looking at the ShotKam footage I was underneath most of the birds, I'm hoping that a comb raiser will sort out the problem 🤞

      I know that frustration I had the Hushpower Baikal single barrel first and that left me totally frustrated after a lifetime of O/U or semi’s. I think the Combe raiser will make a difference - the sight
      picture causes these gun to shoot low so 🤞 it’ll improve things.👍👍.

    Hi bud you did reasonably well mossy,s are a pig to shoot at first.I have found most shoot a bit low.If you look at your footage your misses are mostly underneath.Dont use subsonic cartridges get yourself some Eley Trap 7.5 3" Magnum or 3" Magnum fibre in 6 or 7 .You also are probably on full choke too.Most effective range 25/30 yards max to start.Also the moderator knackers the straight down the barrel line of sight.When I had mine I used a 3mm drill bit on the flat edge bottom of the silencer facing you just above the rib to make a small indent which I painted red (degrease /hammerlite smooth red paint).Keep both eyes open just use the dot as a reference don't aim with it.Get it patterned try my mod to start use tippex (non permanent).They are a cracking little gun but take some getting used to.Ask your local clay ground if you can use it on some close stands crossers /going away/straight on climbing etc most grounds have pay/play stands.Gun safety must be be top draw either bagged or open and empty.Everybody,s build is different check your gun fit.Good luck it will be an adventure for sure get it patterned.All the best.Tony

  • @rufusduck71
    @rufusduck71 2 года назад +2

    Nice video .if I may add a couple of things .(I shoot .410 hushpower in a few forms )
    Raise the combe - without they shoot low .
    The porting on the barrel of those guns reduces the effective barrel length to 16 inches from 24 so the speeds of the cartridge is reduced .the porting can really open up the pattern past 20 yds with a fibre wad (a plas wad cart does better especially one with a full cup like the fiocchi or hull cartridge .high pheasant .)
    And last but not least reduce your range to inside 25 yds .
    Also don't use eley subs they are useless.

    All about pattern Ant. (Patterns kill.)
    A 410 only throws a little bit of shot, and generally needs a tighter choke. Hence, very small, tight little pattern on target.
    From the shot cam, you were leading as you would with a 12 gauge. (Missed in front)
    With a 410, you have to be bang on them to kill - Which you did in some shots!
    I would not use less than a 20 bore on fast flying targets.
    Stick with what you know and trust matey!
    Really good video though. Just goes to show that we all have bad days! (For whatever reason!!!!)

    I have just recently bought a .410 mossberg hushpower as well and I struggled too! I added some weight in the stock and got some stock spacers too to add some length to the stock so I mimicked the length and fitting of my usual 12 gauges and I soon started hitting them, also try all different .410 cartridges, I started with 14g 6s gamebore cartridges and they hit hard but had a very small pattern so now I’m on 19g 5.5s gamebore subsonics and they seem to hit just as hard and the pattern is a lot bigger, practice makes perfect just do not shoot it like a 12 because it just will not work!

    I bought a Mossy Hushpower, could not hit a smegging thing. I may as well have thrown the cartridges at the birds. Got very frustrated and lost a huge amount of confidence in my abilities. Sold it and got an over under 20 bore hushpower, not much better, plus it was bleedin heavy. Now I have a single barrel Pedretti 20 bore and since adding a home made comb raiser, so that I am looking up the barrel and not along it, I'm doing quite well and have found my confidence again. It's well worth doing some pattern testing as you'll be surprised how low it shoots and how tight the pattern is, you need to be a lot more accurate I find. This is only my opinion and experience, I know a lot of people get on very well with these guns. Best of luck.

    • @shootingwithanthony3496
      @shootingwithanthony3496  3 года назад

      Thanks for letting me know of your experience it is very much appreciated, the accuracy part of using the small gauges shouldn't be an issue for me as I use a single shot 410 and a 28ga very regularly and have done for years with a lot of success, it is just the gun fit that I think is the problem, I'm just not used to looking down a drainpipe. I'm going to try a comb raiser, hopefully that will help 👍
