Happy collecting!
I just want to say first off that this video got 1.9K views and 251 likes. This channel and it's creator deserve a thumbs up for every view. To anyone watching this video and reading my post, please give him a thumbs up. If you really enjoyed this content, then you should subscribe. Jim did not ask me to do this, and he's probably going to blush when he reads this comment. He's been such an inspiration to me seriously getting interested in taking the leap of pressing and cleaning books myself.
Will you be creating a compilation of your top 10 submissions at the end of the year? For example, top 10 favorite covers, top 10 most lucrative, etc.? I think those would be some very cool videos.
Great idea! I've never done that but seems like it'd be fun. Thanks!
One of my favorite comic channels. The silent G.I.Joe issue is on my CGC want list.
I’ve watched your videos for a while, and really enjoyed the results. One of my neighbors posted a 9x12 t-shirt press on Facebook for $40. Had to put what I’ve been learning from you to use. Thank you!
Thanks and great pickup, that's an awesome price for a press!
Thanks again for showing us your books! Nice work.
The testimonial at the end was genuinely cool. Good for you, brother!
I appreciate that!
Superb work Jim. You nail the secret. The secret is in the purchase and finding the best quality book possible. Having said that, you've done fabulous work, especially that Batman 423. Damn a newsstand 9.8, wonderful!
Thanks!
That Joe 21 is super cool. Well done!
"Im older now and I have the time to do it" is exactly where I'm at as well. Averaging a book a day cleaned, pressed and sent out for grading. For enough books to keep me busy for about 4 years without buying more.
I had two direct #423s come back 9.8 from the last McFarlane signing. I was blown away. Congrats on the newsstand! What a book.
Thanks and congratz on your two books!
I’ve been loving your videos for awhile now. I’m glad you got killer deals. God Bless 🙏
I would love to be able to do half of your process! One of these days...
Brilliant work… it’s inspirational. 🖖🏾
The Batman book has an awesome cover. I was not a big DC comic collector, just Marvel comics. You mentioned you have 4 pressing machines, well that answered one of the questions that I had. Another fantastic video.
Great video- love your enthusiasm !
Dropping wins all over. Very impressive haul, great buys and clearly great pressing. Congrats!
Much appreciated!
Great video as usual. I would love to see a video on your internet hunting process. Keep up the great work!
I am actually working on that as part of a buying/selling course. I will likely do some basic content regarding this topic on the YT channel once it's done
Your CPR success is off the chart!
Awesome books, Jim, especially that Batman! Question - how come you don’t include grading and shipping costs in your calculations?
I do, and am conservative with it unless the book has sold. Profit "after expenses" is on the screen with each book valuation
You are easily the best comic book youtuber cleaner & presser. its not even close
Thanks so much!
I couldn't have sold that 423 .. great job as always .. the Legend continues..
You have come a long way. What a profit. ❤
Thinking about another rare newsstand, Wonder Woman #92 (1993) 9.8. Would love to see one of those pop up!✨
Me too!
How you buy that Wolverine for $21? That makes no sense
Thanks for catching this, it was purchased for $121.. sorry for the typo during the editing process
With your pressing skills you make this look too easy. But we should not forget: the book has to be a 9.8 candidate to begin with, hunting for them is another big challenge.
Finding books is the hardest part of the hobby
sic books man ! I brought a transformers #1 on whatnot for $3 bucks and it ended it being a 9.6. Profit realized 30x times sold .
Awesome!
I’ve never seen a newstand 423. Nice!
Hello, can you share with me on where you go to clean your books or how you do it? Thank you!
I do it at the stand up desk just to the right of me in the video. The materials I use to clean are on my website at improvecollecting.com and I have a few videos where I show the cleaning process. Just look for any CPR video
Did I miss the video about that Daredevil #1 that's in the wall behind you?
I recorded a lot of the CPR process but it was some of the content I lost when my phone died. I have the intro and the cleaning, but the repairs, summary, and reveal were lost. I may try to salvage a video out of it at some point
Are you willing to share how you break down your expenses? It seems your expenses are running into the hundreds of dollars. You've got the cost of the comic, cost of grading, and cost of shipping. After that, are you calculating every sheet of paper and cardstock when pressing? What else is there?
Most of the expenses are the selling fees, which are from 5% to 15% depending on where I sell. Materials are a very small part of the expense
That bats is so overvalued because of McFarlane
Nice DD 1 on the wall? Did you CPR it?
Yes, but lost most of the footage when my phone died. I may try to salvage some of it, I have the cleaning part still.. just lost the repairs, pressing, and reveal
Hey! great video as always -- QUESTION -- With your valuations this video I was curious as to why your profit after expenses was so much less than I think it should be... Example - Spawn #1 you have your profit at $102 less than the value but the book only cost $25 and CGC's cost are not $76 with shipping... I noticed it definitely on the first few books but didn't calculate it all... Just wondering if you changed your "profit formula" or if it was a mistake.
I take all expenses into account, I have an excel spreadsheet that automatically does it for me. It takes into account shipping, taxes, CGC fees, etc. I am pretty conservative with it, I often make more than the numbers I put on the screen but rarely less. Can't be optimistic as a buyer/seller, I'd end up broke lol
could you show us what are the best books to buy to get pressed you?
Funny you mention that, I am working on a course right now that will have that info. But it's just like anything, buy low, sell high. Unless it's for the PC, I avoid books that have a bump value of less than roughly $300 higher than the current value. Below that and fees and expenses will eat up most of the profit.
I clean and press for my PC and sell a little on the side, but I wanna be you when I grow up
(I’m 33 😅)
LOL
So Batman 423 is valued so highly simply because of the Todd Mcfarlane cover?
Yes, very high demand.. and newsstands are especially valuable since they are much less prevalent in 9.8
Amazing grades. What % of the books that you get graded do you plan to keep for your personal collection? I'd be surprised if you don't get gobs of inquiries from collectors who want you to press THEIR books! Great job and keep the videos coming...
I probably only keep about 5% now, maybe 10%
Do you offer your services to the public? Thank you!
No, sorry. It's just a hobby for me
I imagine it is such a rush to get those 9.8’s back. I believe you are addicted. 😊
I think you might be right. Is there a 12 step program for this? 😂
Just stumbling in here, do you clean and press for customers?
I only do it as a hobby and to teach others
👍👍👍👍
You put that garbage company CCS to shame.. They should learn from you. I’ve had one book submitted to them a few years back and it was never pressed the way it came back. It was a disgrace how I felt ripped off from using them and never again
Haircut too short :(
I've been on the hunt for a good barber for years. I finally found one! This video was recorded beforehand :)
so lame.
Thanks!
