City Folk was my introduction to the series! I honestly can’t remember who got it for me or when I got it but from then on it had me hooked. I don’t think I got super far in the game but I always tried to get my brother and cousins to play. When New Leaf was rumored and eventually announced I was so excited because I played this game. I will always love this game no matter what anyone says. Also the music slaps so hard and is so ingrained into my mind that no matter when I hear it, I always remember it and it brings me peace! 💖 🍃

In summer 2009 I got City Folk. It was my first AC experience and I got hooked. I convinced my mom to make a profile in my town. The first Gamestop purchase I made was a used copy of Wild World in January 2010 so I could "play City Folk in the car".
City Folk must have made a good impression on my mom because in spring 2020, on her own, she bought a Switch and New Horizons because she remembered playing City Folk with me and wanted to experience that again.

Say what you want… Let’s go to the city was my favourite Animal Crossing game to date (new leaf is a very close second), perhaps it’s nostalgia, the fact that I had Stitches as a villager… wild world on the other hand I hated, the colour palette felt dreary, everything felt a bit pixelated, but not in a cute 8bit kinda way. Apparently it may just be me……..

I'd say it's the 2nd game I spent the most time in after New Leaf. I would have get-togethers with a bunch of others I met in an old ROBLOX group made around City Folk, and cherish those memories! I still play it quite often when I don't want to get my 3DS out and am in bed, too!

Funnily enough, I actually tended to prefer LGTTC over WW sometimes. It was my most played Wii game in 2010-2012 too.. by far. That mainly had to do with it having more events and somehow I was super drawn to the city. Although I would say I played both equally as much, I suppose the wii version just felt slightly more alive for me. Mind you, when i was a kid i tended less to the villagers and more to the collectibles and other aspects lol

I would come home from school, jump on the couch and play City Folk ("Let's Go to the City" here in Aus) on the big TV all evening or watch my sister play it and it was amazing. And we played the fuck out of Wild World before that (and GameCube before that) which I remember as a more cozy experience associated with family trips to the country, playing it in the car or in bed, traveling to each others towns to see a KK show together instead of sharing the same town as in CF. Different experiences as a kid who loved both without this snarky modern internet lens on something they weren't in the right place/time to understand and appreciate properly. Also the city was fucking awesome. Fuck the internet.

I didn’t get City Folk at 2008 (I was born in 2007- lmao-) so I think I got the game at 2020 or 2021, can’t necessarily remember. I’ve played the DS version on my cousin’s but I think he lost both his DS and his copy of the game, but I… own New Leaf.
Sooooo I have little to no memory with Animal Crossing on the DS and I only knew New Leaf soooo me and my sisters found a very cheap copy of City Folk (I actually have Lets go to the City cuz I live in the UK, but we’ll stick with City Folk since it’s shorter) and then boom we started playing it on our Wii.
And oh my god, yeah playing the games was WEIRD. My nunchucks were f*cking busted and would drift every 6 seconds (I’m having Switch trauma now…) and overall it wasn’t very enjoyable to play unless my nunchucks chose to be nice to me for a day.
I really didnt play the game as much, but I think it was still a fun experience- kinda? New Leaf was my absolute child hood and I think I’ll always be sticking to that- for awhile.
It’s a nice treat talking about City Folk though, haven’t heard anything about this game in a longgggg time. Glad it showed up on my feed :)

True but it was still a very new concept at that point and they got some significant upgrades. The original animal forest was on the N64 and didn't have a whole lot then they ported it to the GameCube with a little bit of an addition than they added even more stuff for the North American release and ported it as eForest Plus with the e-reader expanded functionality. So it was like massive improvements and changes each time whereas wild world to city folk dropped features

I mean, Japan is known for being less shy with updated versions than the international market. Look at more popular RPGs such as Kingdom Hearts, Persona or Pokemon.(Pokemon in particular is funny because of what happened with the first games, the first batch had two special editions release in japan. They first made the JP-only Red and Green and then the special edition blue, with Blue being then reworked into the western-only Red and Blue. Then when they decided to make a special edition for Red and Blue to cash in on the anime, which they released an earlier no-color version of in japan)

My mom loves the Animal Crossing series, and so I grew up with the series, playing every game as it came out.
To this day however, City Folk is still my favorite Animal Crossing!
Whenever I think of Animal Crossing, I think of City Folk, and it's music.
The towns are so big, allowing you to get lost in them, or have a favorite spot to hangout in.
I still remember there being a ledge near my house, and a small ledge near a waterfall. Those two areas were my favorite spots in the whole town!
Although I've played a ton more New Leaf, it just doesn't have that same feeling. Everything is mostly flat, and the towns feel significantly smaller.
New Horizons also feels too small, and despite being able to terraform, I just can't get areas to give off the same feeling.
I think that if you can get past it essentially being Wild World Wii, you'll find a genuinely enjoyable game. One that you can just relax in while you go fishing in a hidden part of town.

City Folk reminds me of waking up on a winter morning in 2012... Going to school then coming home to play some.
To be honest I never played much, not out of choice. Just couldn't figure the controls out.

City Folk was actually my first Animal Crossing game and my first introduction to AC as a whole. I never even played Wild World (crazy), but I adored City Folk so much. It's soundtrack is still my favorite in the series, and every moment was magical to me. I was actually really surprised growing up and learning it was the least popular mainline game in the series.... thanks for making this video about it! It's interesting hearing other perspectives!

I have to admit, I grew up with City Folk and I loved being able to play it on a big TV. There's definitely a ton of issues with the game, personally my favorite Animal Crossing game is New Leaf. Though, I can't lie, I have so much nostalgia for this game that I can't help but love it!

I didn't know that City Folk was not popular. It was a fun game. But the only other Animal Crossing games I have played are Animal Crossing for GameCube and that horrible mobile game Pocket Camp. :D I didn't own DS so Wild World was not an option.

Bro you are fucking hilarious, I discovered your channel at 530 this morning before work, and all I could think about all day was coming home and watching the rest of your videos (only watched the animal crossing one's so far) you're videos are great.
Also, Gamecube Animal Crossing was my first and will always be my favorite. But I also loved wild world, idk why people talk so much shit on wild world. Graphics don't make a game good or bad. I still play OG resident evil games and silent hill and they are still as good as the day I first played them back in the 90s.
I feel your pain about leaving your copy on the bus, not the same thing but similar. Before I had a gamecube I had a gba sp, and one of my favorite games was the sims bustin out(I know don't laugh 😵) and I let this chick on my bus borrow it and she REFUSED to give it back. Bitch straight up stole it with no remorse

There is an explanation behind the dialogue system. They went with a different methodology between WW and CF. I’m pretty sure they’re still using that system to this day too with some variation of course.

My first Animal Crossing entry was actually City Folk, lucky for me I guess because I never experienced the collective disappointment people had with this game. For me this is the one that started it all, and I will always have extremely fond memories of, just playing by myself or with my cousin online. It's just crazy and a little sad to learn years later this game was very unpopular.

I loved Let's Go to the City so much when I was younger.
Our Wii was in the living room so I had to claim control of the telly, and I always reserved a spot on Saturday nights for KK. 🎵
I didn't actually realise at the time that I could connect Wild World to it so I never connected my games, I just played LGttC and loved it just as much as WW ❤

I was already 20 when this game came out. I'd play it after college and work. I had a long distance boyfriend (now my husband) at the time and we didn't have long distance calling, so we used the speaker accessory you could buy for city folk to leave voice notes on his wii. I have nothing but positive memories of the game and you bring up a lot of good points I just never noticed. I still love it to death. Also deteriorating path was a great way to make a natural path for your village. Also if you walk it wouldn't deteriorate. The same is true for new leaf if I remember right
