Found your channel quite recently and boom, you are in my home islands. In Osaka there are many people who have roots in Goto. I enjoyed this video. Hi from France.
The movie Silence was based on the historical fiction called 沈黙 by Japanese author Shūsaku Endō. I remember reading it when I was teenager in Tokyo, so I'm a little familiar with that aspect of sad history from the past Japan. At the same instance, I'm convinced if Tokugawa Shogun didn't outlaw Christianity and closed the border for 300 years, Japan might had gone through the same kind of miserable fate duly experienced by other nations in Asia. Nevertheless or besides such historical speculation, I'm fascinated by the incredible tenacity and conviction of faith practiced by the Japanese underground Christians or 隠れキリシタン in that area of Japan. Gotō Islands are so special from that aspect alone.👻
Really looks like a beautiful place to go see. You're laid back way in delivering this video is perfect. I would love to visit, hopefully one day. Very long distance from N.E. Scotland, though. Keep up the great videos 😊
I can feel how stunning the islands are from this. I thought they were just islands with nice and nostalgic vibes, but they've got amazing hidden tourist spots such as beaches, castles, churches, hills, etc. This video has made me want to visit them hands down. Also, do you know local My prefecture, Shiga, has 近江ちゃんぽん. It's really tasty. If you like ちゃんぽん, you can try local ちゃんぽん with your beautiful journey throughout Japan!!
Well, looks like I need to go to Shiga now haha! What makes the Shiga champon different to the Nagasaki one? I’m glad you enjoyed the video, definitely check the islands out if you get a chance! 👍
@@Sunny_in_Japan The broth base is a soy source base, not creamy white soup like Nagasaki's one. It's nice and golden. You enjoy changing the taste halfway by adding some vinegar!!!😁
Foreigners like to glamourise sushi and ramen when they think of Japan. But I (a white South African) am in love with the dishes that is served with rice. Such as the curries etc. I am so much influenced by short grain rice, I serve it every day.
Coming from Sydney, I hate Shibuya (I can say it because I'm Japanese and used lived here until I was 8 years old). I need a bit of nature back in my life, this place looks epic!
You cold-hearted monster... the pretty kite just wanted a bit of ice-cream! (joking, of course. It could have made for some spectacular footage, though...) The islands do look stunning, I was surprised to see good architecture and high standard hospitality options in a sparsely populated, remote-ish group of islands. If there are wild-camping options the hiking (or biking) alone would make the Gotos a very desirable option. Thank you Sunny
Haha 😆 Actually you can set up camp in the park where all those kites are! 🦅 It’s called Gyogasaki Park. There’s a few other places around the island you can camp as well⛺️
When I heard that you recommend clothes to ward off the ticks, I remembered a documentary on Japanese Television, which was about a man who had gone for a walk with his dog and was bitten by a tick. Ticks infect humans with various diseases for which there is no cure yet. He was infected with an unknown disease. Maybe he is dead now. So I thought a trip to Gotō Islands would be really dangerous.
Oh damn that’s a sad story 😰 Yeah it’s true ticks can carry some really scary diseases! I don’t know how common they are though, just thought I’d mention it as a precaution because we were not aware at all
@@Sunny_in_Japan the dream is to open a small boutique hotel in Japan. Obviously, I want to avoid the bigger cities due to cost and competition. However, I would love to set up something in a place where there’s a lot of local tourism and help with the economy there. I was contemplating Hiroshima, Hokkaido, and now Nagasaki. It’s still a dream, but I hope within a couple of years I can make it a reality. It will be hard being a father of two and planning to move the whole family there. But we shall see.
WOW! You made an amazing video! This is a perfect guide, even better than the official one.
Omg that’s too nice 🙈
Thank you for your kind words 🙏

Discovered you guys yesterday. What a gem of a channel : ) Informative, respectful (to culture), creative, lovely! Think i will stay for a while : p
I’m so glad you’re enjoying the content!
Please do stick around 😁
these Islands are stunning
Ikr 😍

Great and informative vdo. Love Thecway you communicate in this vdo as well.😊❤
My husband introduced me to soooo many beautiful places ☺️
Thanks, it was great. I loved it ❤😊
Hidden gem vibes! The Goto Islands truly embody Japan's untouched beauty and serene charm. 🌿✨ Fyi.

Yes, it is quite far from Scotland 😅

@@Sunny_in_Japan 確かに外国人の観光客は増えてますw

Awesome , content . Thank you for you hard work and for sharing these wonderful experiences. 🙏
Ohhh sooo stunning Sunny ! Def on my summer trip prob 2025 (autumn this year ;) P.S love the lil edit of hubby's sneeze lol
Yay! I hope you enjoy it 👏

@@Sunny_in_Japan Thank you for your kind answer.

Thanks for this great video!!

I am really curious about how tourism is there both international and local tourism. 🙂
So far I have mostly seen domestic tourism, but every now and then we spot non-Japanese tourists too
