Morning Dave. When I just had my Interceptor, I was happy. Couldn’t ever see myself selling it, but then bought Clementine, my Classic 350, and found myself riding it more than the Interceptor. So much so, that I did indeed sell the Interceptor 😳. Now Clementine takes me anywhere and everywhere, up steep inclines, down nadgery lanes, even on duel carriageways. She fits perfectly in our van, and goes on holidays with us, all over the country. She might not be the fastest thing on two wheels, but that isn’t the point. Nice vid.
Yes Ian you are rightfully bonded with Clementine…..like you I always defaulted to the Classic even with the Interceptor there….addictive riding carefree simplicity 👍🏻
I only joined your channel last year and in no small part thanks to you I’ve just put down a deposit on a new Bullet 350. I decided to go for the black and chrome model and I hopefully pick it up the last weekend in March. I’d never previously considered a Royal Enfield or indeed a retro classic but you’ve opened my eyes to another side of motorcycling for which I thank you.
Quite simply the perfect bike for me, the first bike in 56 years of riding that I am not thinking, what shall I get next. In April 2022 I purchased the Classic 350 in Halcyon Green the perfect colour, this bike is all I have ever wanted in a bike and great fun to ride. Relaxing, every ride is a pleasure, even speed restrictions on this bike do not matter. Until you have ridden this 20 hp motor you do not know what you are missing. Only yesterday I met up with my mates riding from Basingstoke to Reading then back after our meet up, I could have gone in my car but never gave it a second thought to not use my Classic, even in the freezing conditions the bike was a pleasure. 😊
Last spring I rode the Interceptor and loved it, then i tried the GoldStar there was something about that big thumpers character and looks that won me over and I bought one. The 350 i never bothered to look at because i just thought it was too lacking in power. It's looks i like very much but i just thought the GoldStar had more to offer.

Wow! I was really surprised with the way this went and for all the right reasons. I have a Super Meteor and like it alot, but I agree completely with your choice of the Classic 350. It's a real shame the Gold Star isn't available in Germany. As far as I'm aware of - anybody please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm in Bavaria and not aware of any dealers. I find the shotgun a bit boring, the Super Meteor more alluring. That said I've never sat on or ridden either of them. The beauty queen for me - no doubt - is the classic 350 in the brown and chrome variant, with a rack instead of the pillion seat. It reminds me of the old 250 single BMW of my Dad, built in the 70s I think. He used to work as a cop, too by the way. Keeps nagging me to try his stripped down 1200 Gold Wing... "But Dad, I'm a mere 65 kilos, that bike is way too heavy for me!" :D I guess I'll try it some day when I feel confident enough. Also keeps on urging me to try an old BMW GS, despite my short legs at (hits up an online calculator) five foot nine inches. Oh well. I'm really interested in the new Himalayan 450, or 452? Whatever it's called. I like the looks, the height and weight are manageable, fuel mileage is going to be great and it's affordable and looks pretty comfy. Sure I won't have the smoothness or speed of my old 600 four-in-line... but I can very well imagine myself having fun on that. I guess I have a lot of test rides in front of me. So much for this stream of consciousness. Have a nice weekend, and keep the shiny side up! Here's a short clip of me riding ye olde Bavarian Woods. Set it to 4k, there's bad artifacting (I dunno what I'm doing wrong) ruclips.net/video/VAALOn38egI/видео.html
Yes, I agree the Classic 350 is the best of the bunch. Why therefore did I buy the Hunter? I realised I don’t like polishing all that chrome. Head over heart on this occasion!
Just watched for the first 5 mins and will continue in a sec. Just felt it necessary to say... love your style of riding. You should to ride out and give comments on road safety and you would be a winner with me. Looking that the roads you were on in the N.E I believe and at the speed that you were doing you are riding like a classic rider. Safer than most advanced riders and instructors that make videos of themselves tear arsing about our beautiful country roads and thus catching up and having to overtake just about whatever was in their way. I must say that you are my style of rider and if ever you a come over towards the Fylde coast I for one would be pleased to ride with you. We have some great roads over here as well. Keep up the good work and keep the videos coming.
Another brilliant vid ,giving us all the information we could want ,with of course the essence and soul of the bikes themselves ,and you know what the doctor would prescribe for your condition , get another 350 classic 😁.chris
Bought my Interceptor in 2020 , loved it from the minute i pulled away from the garage . Ive modified it to make it mine and the kids already know that bike will still be there once im in my pine overcoat . Dont think BSA will still be here in a couple of years tbh theyve one product on the market and have lost momentum , i agree with your classic 350 choice having ridden one but space limits me to 2 bikes 😢
At present I have downsized & own two 125 machines one being a twist & rip Italian maxi styled scooter of 12 • 2 hp ,a Step thru Honda 125 cc of 9 •3 hp built in Thailand & a 250 cc Suzuki AdV styled bike of 24 •8 hp built in China . I don’t require masses of hp or speed & only ride the odd section of motorway occasionally ,which all my machines can cope with if need be . I always had a soft spot for single thumpers ,so if choosing a modern classic Brit styled bike ,it would either be an RE 350 classic or the BSA 650 gold star . If choosing a twin I would go for the RE interceptor 650 ,or try & get hold of a Kawasaki W 650 or W800 used in nice nick . I don’t like the modern fake Triumphs ,they are bulky & lack the lithe elegance of the old classic Tigers & Bonnies from the 1960 ‘s . I like bikes with just the standard controls at realistic prices , I don’t want to pay for unnecessary nerdy tech idiot proof gadgets like slipper clutches ,fly by wire blipper throttles & such flippery as modes & traction controls ,blue tooth ,& any other gamer boy induced over priced tat . I don’t even really require or even want ABS or linked brakes , & would gladly do without them too . 👍
Great comparison and descriptions of the enfields which uses sensible criteria. I’d like to own one but unfortunately, none of these score as highly as my MT 03. This is almost as cheap, lighter, more powerful, lower, more economical, smoother, has better suspension, better build quality, better resale value and has an incredibly low seat height, which is an essential for me. Ok, it looks awful but I’m not into posing, just riding. BTW, my instructor would say that you resemble a duck coming into land when you come to a stop.
you said all that while riding the guzzi ;;; the moto g is the bike that fills your needs --- between all 1000cc v strom types e.t.c. and the low powered enfields ,,, so to me it seems like a winner to you ;;; --- the good thing about your beloved classic is - they are not that expensive [ appologies here to anyone who has not got 4-g's - i am not a snob ] so can be bought again relatively cheaply -- starting at 3 grand used , with plenty sold - so buying back after a regretful sale is not a problem ;; - i have just checked this with zen and eddie the gsd 's and they agree so there ;;
Morning Dave, your old 350 was a smashing looking bike and I was really surprised when you sold it on. Not an ideal riding day today, too much black ice about to be safe. 👍
Hi guys 😊 don't you hate it when you look out of the window and see bright sun and blue sky, only to open the door and be hit by the sub zero temp and tons of rocksalt along with the black ice on the untreated roads 🙄 roll on spring huh 😊
Hi Dave, good morning from Norfolk. Great start to the day and personally, brings back memories of 1958 and my 1947 registered Ex-Wd girder fork RE 350. Nice review, have a great day. Roy.
An aging body is dictating my riding style, from a stretched over the fuel tank to a more gentile upright riding stance....l agree with your comments on the Classic 350 it's a perfect blend of the old and the new....l took a serious look at a very low milage bike here in Alicante. However I'm still torn between going full classic or intermediate with a Triumph 400 that l viewed yesterday for the first time in the flesh so's to speak... it looks well 'put together'. l still ride a 675 Street Triple. my choice will be, as well as, not instead off...for now anyway.....Oh!, the agony of choice...
The J-class 350 engines, especially in the Classic, offer the nearest thing to an old school riding experience. Unhurried propulsion through the sights, sounds and smells of the countryside, with no need for the hair-trigger, grim death responses of faster machines, accompanied by the steady chug chug of the single pot. It's an experience people respond to, or they don't.
Morning young man. Luv this Dave. Fair comment about the Himmy and Scram. I own a Himmy and Interceptor; both are keepers. Like you I prefer riding the Classic 350 over the Meteor. Having a 1957 B.S.A.350 in my modest stable means it’s hard to justify the purchase of a Classic 350 despite that machines advantages. I have not yet had the pleasure of riding the Hunter; but agree it’s not quite a modern classic. Wifey and I love Edna our Inty. We have had a couple of short trips on her and she easily rode Hardknot pass the more technically challenging west to east travertion, two up with hard panniers and top box. Sure; the Inty isn’t perfect, let down by poor OE suspension, a consequence of being built to a price. I’ve not ridden the Super Meteor and if I’m honest the Royals Enfield Meteor’s aren’t my bag; if I was gonna buy a cruiser it would be a used 883 Sportster. I can understand why you miss your Classic so much. There is something captivating about a low reving single cylinder motorcycle that other engine configuration’s can’t match. It’s all about bums on seats. It doesn’t matter one jot what you ride; what matters is you are out there enjoying the thrill of travelling by your chosen motorcycle. Superb content Dave. Fair and balanced, excellently narrated and highly interesting; well done bud. Cheers and ride safe. Neil
@@thebingleywheeler Thank you Dave. Wifey was a bit nervous too, I could hear her on coms. This was the first time I’d took her west to east, quite a challenge. I always try to time it when I can see there is no west bound cars, been lucky so far, coz a little hill start on there is not something to look forward to. Take care Dave
Good Morning Dave , well that has surprised me choosing 350 classic , don't get me wrong its a nice bike but i thought you would have chosen the 650 super meteor tbf , my choice would be the 650 interceptor but the dark one , so as always take care & ride safe
Along side my 2 guzzis , my commuter 350 meteor ( 20 months old serviced by dealer ) time for a change with 10,800 miles on it . Part ex was a shock against a honda adv350 , are you ready for this , £1000 , gulp !!
Hey Dave, Aye up from the States. I really like the look of that 350...however, the problem I see with all Royal Enfield bikes is that their engines are too anemic. A Honda CB300F puts out at least 30HP. Royal Enfield should keep selling their current line of bikes in India and for the rest of us...increase the HP by at least 15 - 35HP on all models would be a good starting point. Yes, horsepower costs money. A fact of life. Cheers
Each to their own . Depends where you live Rick. Been state side a few times and the vastness of the USA needs a vehicle that can chew up the miles. Europe is a different ball game. Most journeys are town and country lane with the odd long distance Had a Kawasaki 900 which would do the distances no problem but it was bland Power is for many retro riders not as important as character and soul which has been lost totally on most modern plastic black blob perfomance machines
The nice thing is that they are so cheap adding a tuner, exhaust, and cam are with in the budget. The RE bikes also respond really well to the performance upgrades.
Not so sure there rickh Horsepower isn’t everything & we’re do you draw the line on it? You say increase it by 15 ok I buy that BUT I bet you anything it doesn’t stop there! Increase it to 20-30-40 so on! The wonderful thing about RE Is that they created a bike that makes you want to CHILL RIDE! Calm in a world of Rush Rush Rush! Anybody who buys a RE already knows this OR they discover it! My intercepter is absolutely perfect for me & my ride style as I have no more wish to burn up the Tarmac! Even in the USA there must be huge parts of the country that deserves a good chilled out ride!👍🏻😎
@@johnharris7353you seem to miss the point that the largest market for the 350 is India and they are perfectly happy with it. I have a Meteor 350 and the 20 bhp is fine for me, it’s long stroke design gives plenty of torque without revving the tits off it like you have to do with Honda’s CBF300, I previously had a CRF250l and the J series engine is far better in everyday use.
@@thebingleywheelerthe 2nd market is a bountiful place for said machines 😉 plus dave if you get one with a thousand or so miles on saves you from that torture of running it in, especially on the hills of Bingley 😂👍🏻
Great to see blubberhouses in daylight, I drive a truck over in the dark most nights! The more I watch reviews on classic 350 the more I'm being swayed. Really need to ride one first though. Moto Guzzi on my radar too, early days for you, what are your thoughts on it?
Enfield's 350's lovely styling , but it's 2024 not 1954 ffs 20hp coupled with 200kg's give or take just does not cut it. Heck my 1939 bmw R35 is only rated at 4 hp less. Any road can see your talking yourself into getting another one dave , get one soon because i think the price will jump back up come spring time. ps myself i would be looking at the triumph 400x as a small modern second (or third ) bike.
I'm sure the 350 is a excellent modern classic, but think we need to talk about the measly power output, 20 hp for a 200kg bike is not going to swing me to part with hard earned mula, I'ave ridden 125's with more power back in the day, RE need to stick that new 450 engine in a new '350' or new modern classic and same for the scram.
lol, I could say what power, anyway back when yours truly was a teeny suck on a 100cc yam trail bike going to work on and having lots of runs ins with wind blast from trucks etc , I soon learned that power to overtake is a must on a bike, for me anyway and ever since I'ave made sure my bikes didnt lack for it, each to their own as you say Dave@@thebingleywheeler
I agree, it's nice to have some power on a motorbike. Enough to safely overtake and enough to pull away from cars at the the traffic lights. Oh and also just enough to have some fun and excitement.😅
Would you recommend bar risers for the 850 V7? I sat on the previous model at a dealership recently and felt I was leaning forward a tad more than I would prefer

@@kevindarkstarWell said, that’s why I went for the Yamaha MT03. It’s much lighter than the 350 Enfields and has 42 bhp to play with. I’ll test ride the Triumph but it still has the weight penalty. I don’t like heavy bikes, but that’s just me.
This video has a glaring fault! It's too short! I'm 71 , disabled and sold my heavy, fast Blackbird 2 years ago. Can't walk very well, can't live w/o a bike! Limited income. Few weeks ago bought a 2001 BMW F650 Gs. I jus luv the dern thing! Came with panniers, great pillion accommodations, lots of fuel under the seat (almost 5 US gallons), off-road capability, rotax last-forever 50hp engine, no exhaust in the way (Interceptor!!!) Light weight (Interceptor !!!), ABS, heated grips, center stand, I'm happy for $2K US !!!!!
My BSA C-15 250 singles make more hp and are 100 lbs lighter. I can keep up with traffic on the freeway if I have to. My whole collection of 250' s is cheaper than a RE 350. Re350 is unit construction with pre- unit hp.All RE should have hydraulic valve adjustment and belt drive. Chain drive is expensive in the long run if put lots of miles on the bike. A chain driven oil pump is a disaster waiting to happen.
The Classic 350 is, far and away, the most eye appealing bike that RE makes. Having said that, it is just too darned under powered for most of us who live out in the wilds of the western US. Here's a suggestion to the brain trust at Royal Enfield. (As I'm sure that they spy on your channel) 🙂 Follow Harley Davidson's lead with a special operations division (CVO) and design, build, and sell , in limited quantities, more performance orientated versions of the Classic 350, the Continental GT, and the Super Meteor. The Classic could very easily become a Super Classic/Bullet 500, and the Continental and Super Meteor could be bumped to 750cc versions. Special graphics, paint schemes, and suspension upgrades could top it off. Of course, they would need to be priced accordingly. I know that England has its silly horsepower limits for certain riders, and RE has done a good job of meeting these restrictions. There is a pretty substantial market here in the States, however, that would appreciate more GO on these bikes. I know that I would certainly be more willing to plunk down my Yankee $$ for something like that.
Quit whining. Royal Enfields are about refinement. Not speed and power. If you are all about speed and power, get a lesser machine. And yes, I live in the States... Arizona. I toured through the canyons and mountains of Arizona and Colorado...1100 miles in three days. All back roads and the best tour I've ever had in over fifty years of riding. Slow down and enjoy the refinement.

"But Dad, I'm a mere 65 kilos, that bike is way too heavy for me!" :D
I guess I'll try it some day when I feel confident enough.
You can get the classics with black engines too 😊👍🏻
@@thebingleywheeler A bit late now!
@@brahnseer3512never too late, as my grandma use to say "where there's a will, there's a way" 😊
Just watched for the first 5 mins and will continue in a sec.
Thank you that’s most kind of you to say and I will certainly look at your neck of the woods for a riding location coming up….all the best 👍🏻
Another brilliant vid ,giving us all the information we could want ,with of course the essence and soul of the bikes themselves ,and you know what the doctor would prescribe for your condition , get another 350 classic 😁.chris
Cheers Chris I’m on the case 😊
Agree completely too much tech completely dilutes the riding experience
Great comparison and descriptions of the enfields which uses sensible criteria. I’d like to own one but unfortunately, none of these score as highly as my MT 03. This is almost as cheap, lighter, more powerful, lower, more economical, smoother, has better suspension, better build quality, better resale value and has an incredibly low seat height, which is an essential for me. Ok, it looks awful but I’m not into posing, just riding. BTW, my instructor would say that you resemble a duck coming into land when you come to a stop.
Shame they not brought out a twin disc front brake 850 super interceptor
A 500 J series classic in the aurora colors the meteor comes in now; that would be nirvana.
you said all that while riding the guzzi ;;; the moto g is the bike that fills your needs --- between all 1000cc v strom types e.t.c. and the low powered enfields ,,, so to me it seems like a winner to you ;;; --- the good thing about your beloved classic is - they are not that expensive [ appologies here to anyone who has not got 4-g's - i am not a snob ] so can be bought again relatively cheaply -- starting at 3 grand used , with plenty sold - so buying back after a regretful sale is not a problem ;; - i have just checked this with zen and eddie the gsd 's and they agree so there ;;
In which case Simon I must do what I can to get one back and keep Lord Eddie content 😂😂😂
Morning Dave, your old 350 was a smashing looking bike and I was really surprised when you sold it on.
Not an ideal riding day today, too much black ice about to be safe. 👍
Right on Nick…..can’t even get a car out up here!
Roy.
Cheers Roy you too pal 😊👍🏻
I definitely respond to it 😊👍🏻
Morning young man.
It doesn’t matter one jot what you ride; what matters is you are out there
enjoying the thrill of travelling by your chosen motorcycle.
Superb content Dave. Fair and balanced, excellently narrated and highly interesting; well done bud.
Cheers and ride safe.
Neil
Cheers Neil much appreciated and I’m impressed with you riding anything two up on Hard Knot 😊👍🏻
Cheers Steve
Good assessment Dave.. I have largely dismissed (without ever owning) all of the 350’s based on their 20bhp.. maybe I was wrong?
I did too until I rode one….makes you a better rider
There again dave you did that with the super meteor till you had that test ride 😉
Along side my 2 guzzis , my commuter 350 meteor ( 20 months old serviced by dealer ) time for a change with 10,800 miles on it . Part ex was a shock against a honda adv350 , are you ready for this , £1000 , gulp !!
I quite like the look of the Shotgun 650, but it is let down by the lack of a shotgun exhaust (one-sided under & over pipes).
The very best is The Classic 500. Just my view 🙂
The classic 350,,,,,,,, the bike that scared the pants of the big European manufacturers , and the one that sets the bar to compare to ,,
Hey Dave, Aye up from the States.
Most journeys are town and country lane with the odd long distance
Had a Kawasaki 900 which would do the distances no problem but it was bland
Power is for many retro riders not as important as character and soul which has been lost totally on most modern plastic black blob perfomance machines
Yes but 20 brake hp is just too low! If it was 30 I'd have already bought one. John in Missouri USA.
Just get another one Dave. They are keepers. In part because the residuals are so low that it's hardly worth selling one, but keepers, nevertheless.
Watch this space 😊
Would a wise guess be the Interceptor leaving to be replaced by a classic 350? 🤔. A great summary of the RE stable 👍
@@thebingleywheelerthe 2nd market is a bountiful place for said machines 😉 plus dave if you get one with a thousand or so miles on saves you from that torture of running it in, especially on the hills of Bingley 😂👍🏻
Hi Dave, I’m going to need some new motorcycle riding gear and like the look of yours have you done a review or are you planning to do one?
Review coming up buddy 👍🏻
Great to see blubberhouses in daylight, I drive a truck over in the dark most nights!
The more I watch reviews on classic 350 the more I'm being swayed. Really need to ride one first though. Moto Guzzi on my radar too, early days for you, what are your thoughts on it?
If you’re after true character and rock n roll the Guzzi is epic 😊👍🏻
Very eloquent review, thanks...
😊
Great commentary Dave!

Why the obsession with power?
lol, I could say what power, anyway back when yours truly was a teeny suck on a 100cc yam trail bike going to work on and having lots of runs ins with wind blast from trucks etc , I soon learned that power to overtake is a must on a bike, for me anyway and ever since I'ave made sure my bikes didnt lack for it, each to their own as you say Dave@@thebingleywheeler
I agree, it's nice to have some power on a motorbike. Enough to safely overtake and enough to pull away from cars at the the traffic lights. Oh and also just enough to have some fun and excitement.😅
Royal Enfield needs to lose their flat black paint. I have a beautiful 2007 red and chrome Royal Enfield Bullet. What went wrong?
Need to get it booked then👍
Would you recommend bar risers for the 850 V7? I sat on the previous model at a dealership recently and felt I was leaning forward a tad more than I would prefer
Don’t think so it seems fine
Top job Dave of summing up these machines 💯
I’ve have he new BSA as you know but not ridden the Supermeteor but I’m gonna test the Shot Gun for sure this year I think itl be a winner 🏆
I love the Interceptor tho not had one yet, love the classic 350 and the meteor I like that tbh
But you know what I sold my brand new classic 500 in Squadron blue after 12 months 3 years ago and still miss that machine funny how machines get under your skin

Theres just not enough get up and go in that 350 engine. The Triumph 400 Scrambler has 40 hp, I'm looking forward to a test ride.
The BIG difference is that they are liquid cooled which allows more power with usually higher compression ratio 😊👍🏻
@@user-rf9me7xm1w good point, ride safe 👍🏻
Good luck with the Triumph….not for me at any price
@@thebingleywheeler Mmm intresting, come on dave elaborate on that point, why are you so adamant it's not for you?
Now ima BMW snob !
Video too short John?
It's fine, just joking with ya mate!
I know buddy 😂
😮Shock😢poor classic 350 👍👏👌
My BSA C-15 250 singles make more hp and are 100 lbs lighter. I can keep up with traffic on the freeway if I have to. My whole collection of 250' s is cheaper than a RE 350. Re350 is unit construction with pre- unit hp.All RE should have hydraulic valve adjustment and belt drive. Chain drive is expensive in the long run if put lots of miles on the bike. A chain driven oil pump is a disaster waiting to happen.
Is the black reg plate legal?
No but who cares 😂
@@thebingleywheelerThe Rozzers will, when they pull you over 🤣😂
It wouldn't pass an MOT, would the insurance have a get out in event of an accident being as the bike is not road legal.

Meteor 650
It’s still going to be a “barge” of a bike though.
@user-rf9me7xm1w except that it isn’t
I think you need a Shotgun in the garage…awesome reviews.
@keys1955 Who is whining exactly?
