Great story and a most pleasant voice of the reader. The movie version could never capture the nuances and richness of the book. But it is very frustrating to have the final chapters of the book omitted. I am curious and annoyed about why the missing narrative.

Love people who demand/command service from people on free sites. We are lucky anything like this even exists Pay for it if you want perfect products rather than mooch off of strangers who try to do the best they can to give people something free and easy to use. People who upload content don’t owe you anything. I imagine that many of the flaws are accidents. Cool book, and it raises some questions..and answers some, too. Faber is a weird character to invent. A real bad ass, James Bond figure. Of course in this case, he's a German James Bond and working against the British. So Follett is careful to balance his status. Faber's no hero, but what do you call the figure whom you secretly root for? You don't want him to get caught, to not make it back to the boat. And David, of course is easy not to like..our British ace who can't accept a shift in fortune.. and from whom Faber steals wifey for a night... (We quietly cheer on this outrage as well.) So what does it all mean? I think Faber presents a correction to the British archetype (David).. to England itself. Who is Faber? He has a lot of names, is beholden to no one, and he isn't a Nazi. And he's not a David, either.. crippled, angry, resentful, sexless; and still hopelessly aligned with capturing a national fantasy. Faber pursues the Nazi version of David's fantasy, and he's pretty successful. Only, again, what is Faber in it for? Nazi domination? There's no confirmation of that. He seems to seek promotion, but it sort of ends there. Perhaps England needs more of Faber's ambition; not mere national pride and nation worship... Just steady, focused work in the now. David and wife on their island (England in minature) represent the current dysfunction. The old guard as the single old man with his radio, represents a part of the nation in twilight; and David...an England that's officially impotent on the new world stage. The wife is the fragile England struggling to come through. Will England become detached and focused on nothing like Faber? Will it become focused on fantasy, like David? Both men die at the hands of what's his name, suggesting that HE is the proper picture of England. He had the steady work ethic of Faber, but a connection to an un-romanticised England to frame the work. So this is Follett's vision, his prescription for England. The weird part is that the book was written well after 1945.
