In this episode of the Western Railroading Series, we will follow Montana Rail Link's mainline from outside of Billings west to Bozeman with a particular emphasis on the mountainous stretch of track known as Bozeman Pass. With a 1.8% Grade, trains require manned Montana Rail Link helpers to tackle the slope. With BNSF's pending purchase of the Montana Rail Link, scenes like the ones seen in this video will likely not be around for much longer. Enjoy the sounds of BNSF GE & MRL EMD Locomotives giving everything they have to keep trains moving through the mountains.

I don’t know what it is but I love seeing videos with MRL locomotives assisting heavy trains up and over the Montana grades! Awesome video!!! 👍🏻🎥💯

Thanks! Yeah it’s a super surreal place; the scenery plus the loud EMDs make it different from anywhere else!

Keep watch of this backwards run railroad ‘CSX’. In time they will squeeze out the smaller business like they do almost everywhere. A big mistake letting them in the New England area! Too bad ‘CP Rail’ didn’t get to buy them out! (CSX). 👎
