Kh mainly, twice a day, I like to test Calcium once a day as well because I have occasional drops.. the rest is for NO3, PO4, and Mg, maybe twice per week each one@@ReefDudes
I'm heading into my 10th month with this device, and I totally agree with what you mentioned. Btw they started sending out extension cords for the power supply a bit later, but they'll probably get one over to you once they see this video 😂.
My overall experience, for anyone who's curious, has been fantastic. They've come a long way from their initial product, and this one feels like a perfectly polished device. It's in action daily for KH and semi-daily for ca, po4, nitrates, and ammonia, and all is running smoothly. I get the feeling its lifespan will far outstretch similar products, and with their regular upgrades and enhancements, I don't see other companies keeping up. RK seems dedicated to honing this device, with no distractions on other product lines.
Perhaps my biggest wish is for the device to have its own set of reagents. It'd make finding best test kit. For instance, API calcium isn't as precise as Red Sea, but Red Sea involves a bit of dilution due to its powder reagent. The same goes for nitrate tests. So as you said I began caring about consistency rather than chasing a certain value. And maybe they could make it possible to integrate with dosers or APEX controllers, consolidating everything into one hub would be a breeze. So for anyone interested, I strongly recommend this product

Thanks Dev! There's one item I've noted for testing nitrates with this unit. The nitrate reagent that calls for very intensive shaking (usually bottle #2) should only be stored in the 20ml cylindrical vial, not the 60ml cubical vial. You will see the less soluble particles settle into the corners of the 60ml and the magnetic pill is not powerful enough to suspend them again into the mixture - which invalidates the test reading. Reef Kinetics told me that for this test, they recommend a manual shake before testing.
Intresting. I wonder if you could use a larger stir bar in the 60 ml vial to mix it a bit more
@@ReefDudes I tried one roughly 3x the length of the included pill without any luck. Thankfully that's the only issue I've had, so it's not a deal breaker. Great unit.
Happy it's working well for you. Also that was a good tip. The calibration of stuff doesn't matter, consistently matters. Hope more people will understand that
First thing everyone always always ask is how accurate is it. Which comes down to how well you calibrate it. Consistency in testing is key as trends have the most value :)
Put electrical tape over the light except for a 1 inch section so you can still get light alerts
For the light just put electrical tape over it and leave a small open area so you can still see when it’s testing.
That would be a an easy fix. Also debated adding a variable resistor to act as a dimmer switch
Nice update. It's funny because I heard a lot of negative stuff about the reefbot but you seem happy and I trust your opinion on that.Would you go with mastertronic or reef bot if you had to choose one.
I had a few issues with my original one. The new one (reefbot lab) seems to have fixed all the little issues I had with the original ones. Nice to seem them ever improving!
I'm guessing if it discard the old water from the tank pipe to test only the new one and if it is possible to set the amount of water that need to be discarded (depending on the lenght of the pipe)
what kind of device that can make oxygen for fish in big tank
Biggest thing for that is proper gas exchange. A good skimmer and power heads disrupting the surface are the two main things that add oxygen to the water
If you test once a week, is this system using "old" water that's been sitting in the lines or does it purge the intake line every time?
I believe it flushes it but will have to watch it testing to 100% confirm.
How iit compares against the Mastertronic?
Has anyone switched from a mastertronic to this? VERY interested in it. The MT is good but the linear actuator fails all the time, plus a lot of other things that are annoying. For those who have switched, how much better/worse is it?

The rodi, tank and waste lines, are they needing to be a specific length or can we have it as long or short as we'd like depending on where we put it?
Also, im between the mastertronic and this one. Now that you know what you know. Which one would you keep if you had to get rid of one of them? And why?

It is recommended that the sample tube be within 7 feet. However, I have been using 10 feet tubes and it still works well.
Waste you could cut. Most testers want you to keep the sample and tank lines the full length though. Mine are coiled up behind it

I'm also thinking about purchasing a device, but haven't been able to determine how well it can reproduce its measurements. If you run three tests in a row of the same parameter, are they all reasonably equal? When testing multiple times manually, I´m usually in a range of 10ppm on calcium for example. Whats your experience with that?
I can’t say I have ever done 3 back to back but have tested twice in the same day on nutrients with consistent results
Yes, basically it is repeating the same sequence over and over again, when I first got it I used to double check each result just to test its consistency

Been doing some 'testing' with my Trident's reagents. Was always curious to know if pouring the last bit of reagent A into the new bottle would really affect the results as Neptune Systems indicated. After a year of alternating between mixed and unmixed bottles of reagent A, I haven't seen any erratic or swings in the alkalinity readings. So I will continue using the remaining amounts of reagent in the new bottles to get the most usage.
How about with ca/mag? I suspect thsoe may be affected more than alk
@@ReefDudes Haven't tried it with ca/mag since I'm not using them up at the rate of the alk reagents. I'm doing 2 tests per day...alk in the morning and all 3 in the evening. But I'll experiment with the ca/mag and see what the results are.

What are the size/specs of the needles? Can you purchase your own or are they specialty length/gauge like the Mastertronic?
they send needles with the device, I stacked a bunch and they sent it with the device so I would not have to pay for shipping fees. I tried other needles and it works well, the only problem is finding a long needle that can reach the bottom of the vials, I think this is why they make their own
Deven, two question for you Sir , if you have the time?. As I seriously consider getting one. I've looked at this thing more than once, and find if very appealing especially after the second version came out. And a lot of information is available on how it works, thanks to solid reviews like this one. Two questions:
1. what's the full testing frequency range: Something like KH, I'd test once or twice a day. Ca or Mg once or twice a week. But for everything else, parameters like Fe or K, I'd only want to test monthly as a base line (unless I suspect a deficiency). Will it accommodate all those different testing ranges? I can't seem to find information on the longest duration available between testing.
2. Export: Simply, does the app allow for export for data analysis or archiving long-term. For example, can I get it to import into MS Excel?
I'm not a coral farmer, I don't need everything tested multiple times a week. Which is the number one reason I don't have a trident. However, I do want better insight into long-term trends and to ensure nothing is deficient. Much like we utilize ICP tests. This device seems perfectly placed to accommodate that with the most common tests.

Absolutely. I only use weekly but looking into the scheduling options now, hourly, daily, weekly, monthly , yearly so I think your covered for those ranges! To be honest I think this is the first one that o have seen to let you test monthly (bonus!)
As for exporting I don’t recall seeing an option but you could likely copy paste from the web interface. I’ll reach out and ask them about it, now I’m curious too :)

Thoughts vs. the Mastertronic?
Both have their pros and cons I did do a video or stream a few moths back talking and comparing the different testers
I hope you don’t mind me saying my opinion, but as a user of both, I find that the MT can be compared with the reefbot v1 or v2, but in terms with the RB Lab, the lab is superior, steadier, more consistent, better design and parts, minimal maintenance and calibrating, you can stack tests and they will all run after each others, more compatible tests and parameters, the 60ml vials… MT still have issues with the syringe holder and they use practically everything RK replaced between the v1 and the lab. MT in my opinion is a great device, but if I were to choose which I would keep, I’d choose the lab
