    He's a natural stone mason. I've been in construction for 50 years and would have loved to have had him, or any craftsmen on his level on my jobs but they've gone from rare to nonexistent. They are a treasure.

    Smart to create a water diverter with drainage ditch. Most people overlook that when building shelters in or on hillsides and their shelter floods. The only issue with his shelter, he should have lined the back wall against the hill with plastic. The stones will always be wet and musty smelling.

    • @evelynwaugh4053
      @evelynwaugh4053 Month ago +12

      Basements aren't always dank and musty. When burning wood, one generally needs to use some means to humidify the air. His fireplace will probably keep things dried out.

    • @zfilmmaker
      @zfilmmaker Month ago +5

      @evelynwaugh4053 I’m possible when just on the other side of a wood wall is a hill of soil. It’s not possible to dry that much soil, moisture will always pass through it. The wood wall, despite a fire will still rot and mildew.

    • @evelynwaugh4053
      @evelynwaugh4053 Month ago

      @zfilmmakerSurely, that depends on the water table there. Hills shed water, they don't necessarily absorb it. That is why people living on hills and mountains have to drill so deep for wells.

      Tudo lindo e maravilhoso, só deveria ter o cãozinho junto, dormindo dentro da cabana, eles são nossos fiéis amigos. Nunca devemos deixá-los fora da nossa vida. Ele corre perigo fora da cabana, ainda mais sendo um filhote, que ainda não sabe dos perigos da natureza. Fiquei deveras triste ver ele excluído da cabana onde ele ficaria mais protegido e sentindo amor e aconchego.🥺😢

      @ForestForest-n9i No but it is fake: the magic concrete at 4:44, getting sand (it seams) and adding water will not make concrete. To actually make some, you need so many things: water, air, fine sand (yes, he did have that) cement, and many more chemicals.

      Where to stockpile the food securely, and defenses on those critters who are foraging for meals like the food and people. Also how much and where wood needed to maintain life if in a projected winter storm?.

      @NickolayPaschal-k8k Права жінки тут ні до чого. Ти просто не знаєш українок. Жінка для свого чоловіка, це опора і підтримка. І коли ми робимо щось разом, це об'єднує і скріплює сімью. Ми разом вже 44 роки і нам по 65 років, а ми до цих пір їздимо на природу і будуємо табір для активного відпочинку. Нам це подобається. І цьго літа поїдемо. А ти про якісь права говориш. Тобі нас не зрозуміти.

      Built a sick ass fort as a kid and would take naps in it but it was short lived because there was a crazy old man that rented a spot in a warehouse that was behind our house he acted like he owned it all and would call the police but never did anything and said you are not doing anything wrong. So when I woke up from a nap I heard his van coming and booked it to the house and went upstairs and watched what he would do and sure enough he tore down the fort and I was so pissed and sad. Like is this what you do to kids when nobody is around? Idk what his problem was but he had an evil soul. Why do you feel the need to harass a kid playing in the woods behind his house

    How many people and machines did you use for this video?

    • @ifIOnlyHadABrian
      @ifIOnlyHadABrian Month ago +3

      Uh, you can literally see dozens of modern machines (tools are machines) used all throughout the video... There are obviously factory cut giant stones (WAY too heavy for a man to carry over rough terrain) being used all the time.. and at least 3 types of decorative stones all the exact same color, likely from a modern quarry. You can also see time pass through winter, spring, summer... the dog gets visible older... And he has rubber tarps, plastic sheeting, fire-starter kits, even a fkn battle-axe... It's OBVIOUSLY some guy building within 500 meters of his house or a road, with a pickup truck, being supplied by a functional modern society... Only a truly gullible person would believe this was some "survival" tutorial that one man could do alone in the wilderness. At the end he even has an entire kitchen's worth of supplies to make the meal. No one with a functional brain would imagine he carried all that shit in - ON his back - to make ONE meal... get a grip on reality.

    As a lifelong builder, I could critique the hell out of the flagstone and river rock being store bought. The triangle green wood pavers will dry and shrink away from the mortar and come loose. The raw wood posts in the ground will get destroyed by bugs so this structure is temporary. Except for the fireplace and stonework outside, that’ll last a long time. But I think the point of these builds is to show the incredible artistry and craftsmanship and splendid beauty of his work. Nobody out surviving in the woods would plant decorative ferns, it would be a garden of vegetables instead. Completely unnecessary artistic touches and a dog house make this just a homey dugout cabin without a shower or bathroom. The triangle wooden pavers set opposing looks like a tribal design and just beautiful. The whole thing is a beautiful work of functional art. I think that’s the point. So fun to watch and I see the structural flaws and ignore them because no matter what, it’s going to be absolutely beautiful in the end.

    Why would you put a locking mechanism for front door on outside instead of inside? 24:34. Also, why not use glass instead of flimsy plastic for windows. 25:24. Doesn't glass windows retain heat better than plastic windows? The one thing that you did right was digging a drainage system around your dugout. Thumbs up. Design of shelter is also very good.

      Дверь закрывает снаружи чтобы не пришли звери в отсутствии хозяев. Хотя изнутри тоже закрыть нужно. Хорошо сохраняют тепло двойные тройные стеклопакеты.
