I agree practice is essential when sewing different fabrics with the overlocker and changing needles wish I had thought of this before I love all your explanations so clear and easy to understand x
You're a very good communicator and teacher. The best video about overlockers ever. Thank you very much. I'll whatch everyone of your videos. Hello from Québec, Canada !!! ❤
Thank you Abi, I never realised I should be using ballpoint needles in my overlocker on all my jersey fabrics. I hope with what I have made so far doesn’t fall apart LOL!😆
Thanks, very helpful! I just got a second-hand Janome serger with the intent of sewing swimwear for my daughter, among other things. So this is perfect
Wow amazing video. I am waiting for my over-locker to arrive, have never used one and can't wait. Have been watching videos and this is the best one so far. Have saved to library. I love the style of pants as well. I think I will make this my first project. Thanks a million you awesome!!!
Thank you for showing those close-ups of the ribbing serging so helpful and alot of other videos of others never get that closeup. I am a novice and I was wondering how you were going to serge that tiny area!
Hey Gaynor, you shouldn’t have problems with cones 😊 Overlockers are designed to hold them. Smaller lengths on cops can be more affordable and offer more colours to match your fabric and they still hold enough thread to make 2-3 full sets of garments x ✨🪡🧵
great video! i was wondering whether you think that when i am sewing, e.g. bamboo elastic fabric and my overlock makes little holes into the fabric, it might be because of the wrong needle? i have always been using the super stretch, however i probably should have the jersey. What is your opinion?
That’s right! The right needle makes all the difference. It might be they’re too big if they’re leaving holes. I tend to use a 70 or 80, depending on the fabric knit/weave and weight.
Hello Abi, I watched your tutorial on threading using overlocking brother machine and it is very helpful in the area of threading but there is a particular problem I am having with my overlocking brother machine it seems stocked not operating and no sounds. Please I really need a professional support like yours. Thanks in Advance.
Brother machines are so bad. You need to open it up and oil the inside. It’s very easy to do and you should take time to do it slowly. Watch my video and you can fix it yourself xx
Love your informative videos. You have helped me not to be afraid to fiddle with the dials on my overlocker. Sometimes with VERY soft knits, the fabric gets dragged under instead of being cut - any suggestions?
Thank you Margie, you’re very kind and well done! Soft knits are fiddly to handle in a heavy, mechanical machine…. That’s happening with the project I’m working on right now, watch out for my upcoming video for my tips x
Really thorough video. Thank you! One thing, I have to have my audio on high to be able to listen, and even then your voice is kind of low. I don't want to miss a single word that you say.
This is so helpful Abi. You are a great teacher and very clear. I wonder if you can you answer a question I have about the Necchi Aldi machine? My bobbin slide plate won't pop up anymore when I want to change the bobbin. What can I do?
Thank you, Mad Hatter, I did see this message and I meant to take a look. Maybe the spring isn’t as loaded anymore. I used to happen on one of my older Janome machines. Let me investigate!
I must admit to not used stretch fabrics much on my overlocker as I just don’t know what sort to use 🤷♀️ I want to make clothing for my grandkids; trasksuits, t shirts, leggings and babygros but the stretch fabric I did buy had a polyester feel that just feels nasty for kids. Can you give me any advice on what kind of stretch fabrics? I was thinking cotton jersey? Tia as always an amazing video that really shows us what we need to know.
When do you use stretch needlesif they are not good for jersey fabrics? I don't know what sort of needles came with my overlocker (brother M343d) , do you know? Thanks for your videos.
The machines are usually supplied with a stretch needle I believe but I don’t know factually. Use stretch needles on a four way stretch fabric or a fine stretch like scuba 🤿
I'm seriously thinking of spending more money. I have overlocker and 4452 Singer Heavy Duty. The coverstitch is so expensive. But........ Do you know of a basic model for my 1st coverstitch?
Showing the practical example with the chopsticks and scarf was genius.
I agree practice is essential when sewing different fabrics with the overlocker and changing needles wish I had thought of this before I love all your explanations so clear and easy to understand x
You are so welcome! Thank you Julie x

I can't help noticing that you're using different brands of machines. It's fantastic !!! ❤
Ahh. Thank you so much. And yes. I have a collection 🫣 haha.
Thank you for showing like that, needle problem for strech fabric! Now I understand it cleary.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks Abi for your videos on using an overlocker. Excellent tutorial.
This was so helpful to me in understanding the difference between Stretch needles and Jersey needles. Thanks so much Abi 😊
I'm so glad and you are so welcome

Thank you so much for those tutorials. I’m learning a lot from them 👍
Lovely, clear language. Thank you.
Thank you Abi for another great tutorial.
You’re welcome 😊
Thank you for sharing your time and teaching us you’re techniques.
You are so welcome!
this video just answered my previous question. Brilliant :) thank you Abi.
Practice? There was I trying to use my brand new overlocker, thought I was ready…but obviously not!Very educational and well illustrated video
Thank you 😊 practice is key, but with plenty of it, you’ll be a pro in no time 😊
Your videos are brilliant. Thank you for showing how to use the machine, without the baloney that others do.
You’re welcome sandra
Very effective demo. Thanks.
Thank you Jacq

Abs! I love your show so very much!
Much appreciated! ☺️
This is good timing Abi as I want to make a ribbed elasticated glove for my tennis racket hand in this cold weather
what an exciting project!
Thank you for showing those close-ups of the ribbing serging so helpful and alot of other videos of others never get that closeup. I am a novice and I was wondering how you were going to serge that tiny area!
It really is tricky and the overlocker foot is huge. Not as big as a baby’s foot, but still! 🥴
Thank you for all your tips! I'm glad I found your channel.
I’m glad you’ve joined us. Thank you x
Such a great tutorial, with a brilliant and clear explanation about the needles. Thank you so much! :)
Thank you for the lovely feedback x
Great explanation, but I have one question . What kind of thread did you use to sew on this stretching fabric? Thank you for helping all of us .
I always use a cotton. You don’t need to be using woolly nylons or stretch threads. Using correct techniques and settings will allow stretching
Thanks so much!
Thank you x
Enjoyed the video, but I’ve only ever used the cone threads in my overlocker and I’ve never had a problem with them,

@@AbisDen As I said in my comments, I don't have a problem with them - contrary to your post.
thank you I have some ribbing I've been hesitant to actually sew
Ooh. Have fun with it
You convinced me

@@AbisDen i have already used the 70! now i will try the 60 jersey, wish me luck! and hopefully i can get the double needle in this size =)
I've been trying to find stretch ribbing in different colors and can't find it. Could you please help. Thanks for all these wonderful tips!!!

Hello! I was wondering if you could sai witch settings you used exactly when sewing that fabric on the overlock?
Sorry I missed this. It’s awkward because settings vary from fabric to fabric. Just loosen the lower looper a little to help maintain the stretch x

Hi! So when do you use the Stretch needle? Is it for woven stretch fabrics only?
Yes, really. You might find they work on other fabrics but because of the design of the shaft, they could cause skipped stitches 😫 x
Really thorough video. Thank you! One thing, I have to have my audio on high to be able to listen, and even then your voice is kind of low. I don't want to miss a single word that you say.
Oh, I’m so sorry about that x but thank you 💕

we are struggling a little with it at the moment, but hope it will be out soon. Tech things are so beyond me. 🤔

Abi what is the name of that dark blue fabric that you used at the waist ?
Hey Lorenzo. It’s called Rib or Ribbing

Unfortunately, I couldn’t suggest one because I haven’t much experience with them. Maybe that’s my 2024 project😊🫶🏽
Hi Abigail all of a sudden I am unable to watch your content I can hear but cant see you just have a green screen x
Seems like you may have an internet connection issue 🤔
Hi Abi. Great video again. Brill. I think they would be a bit on the small size, for you.😂😂😘😘 joking of course.😊😊
