About Timberborn:
Mankind turned Earth into a dry wasteland and perished, but some species adapted and evolved. Choose one of the unique beaver factions and see how long your colony can last!
Wet and dry seasons
Prepare your settlement for recurring droughts. Stockpile on food and keep fields and forests alive even after rivers dry up. Rely on both natural water sources and artificial irrigation to keep the land arable.
River control
Redirect rivers, put up dams and dig water canals with explosives - beavers of the future have millennia of experience in water engineering. But be careful, uncontrolled flooding is as deadly as a dynamite blast!
Lumberpunk
Turn timber into sophisticated machinery, buildings, and monuments. Wood is the core resource in Timberborn, but the most advanced structures require metal. To find it, send your scavengers to the ruins of the old world.
Vertical architecture
Create a thriving beaver settlement using a modular, vertical architecture system. Space is limited, so stack lodges and workshops on top of each other, cover hills with fields, and set up a power grid for your growing population.
Day and night cycle
Build a prosperous city with efficient production chains and beaverish nighttime activities. Follow the lives of individually simulated inhabitants throughout their day and celebrate when the next generation is born!
Wellbeing
Satisfy the needs of your colonists to extend their lifespan and make them happier. An evolved beaver's lifestyle is not just "work, sleep and chomp on wood". Balanced diet, decorations, temples, even carousels - you take care of it all.
Beaver societies
Control different beaver factions, each with unique style, buildings, and gameplay traits. While some beavers are expert farmers, another family might rely on rapid industrialization. Choose what fits your playstyle!
Map editor
Play on one of the included maps or create your own and share it with the community! With hills of different height, ruins scattered in the desert, and all life depending on access to water, each map poses a different challenge.
...and more!
We regularly add new features and iterate, based on the community's feedback. We’re making the world’s first beaver city-builder and we want to make it special, so stay in the loop and add Timberborn to your wishlist today!

Hope you enjoy these industrious little beavers in their colony! Which tribe do you think will be your favorite? The Folktails or the Iron Teeth?
There is a pause button! You were almost hovering over it whilst asking for it. The start/pause buttons don't just open/close the building when it's finished, they also start/stop construction beforehand.
I have to say, I really love the game (and the Folktails especially!) and doubly so since you're playing it. Glad you're feeling somewhat better, hope the rest of your recovery is smooth sailing.
@KatherineOfSky you have probably already worked this out but there IS a pause button for building - the top middle where you pause the buildings activity also pauses the building process. I am excited to watch this series, I put it off because I didn't want any spoilers and I am really surprised how much I am loving playing this game!
Being sick for two months can't be normal. Did you ever go and see the doctor? I hope you're feeling a lot better now.
@@uhavemooface I've seen the doctor 5 times, been to the ER once, and had an x-ray... they still haven't fixed my sinuses.
The Labor pause button also works on unconstructed buildings. This will prevent them from hauling resources and building the building. It is already in the game but not very apparent. Kinda like the Distribution center's "Add new trade route" button doesn't stand out as much as it should. They should make it pulse and flash if there are no trade routes established, so new players know that clicking it is the initiation point of a trade route. The color makes it blend in with the background too much.
I thought it stood out just fine
@@blahbleh5671 Ill admit it took me 10 seconds to see what I should click, but I have been watching people play on youtube and have watched 3 different streamers waste minutes flailing around trying to figure it out clearly frustrated. That is bad UI development, the people that see it the first time or carefully read the panel, are not the problem, the rest of your player base who might get frustrated and give up and/or leave a bad review about a minor gui element that could easily be made more obvious is the problem.
I've watched a number of playthroughs of this game, and NO ONE else has figured out that beavers go in the water... Mind = Blown!
Love the series KoS!!
Wait what haha. Need to watch the video
@@achtsekundenfurz7876 plus it wasn't in the demo, beavers only started to walk on the bottom of water when the full game released
I have a playthrough and I have beavers going through water
honestly lets players not knowing how to play this game was what put me off about it. i thought it was just ‘colony builder but reskinned with beavers’ which felt like such a waste of potential. but i saw that katherine was doing a whole series and i went ‘there has to be more to it if katherine is playing it this much’. what im saying is that katherine deserves more views and sponsorships LOL
Real Civil Engineer has figured that out too :)
Not being able to use stairs at the beginning contributes also to the feeling those beavers can't go in water.
I've been watching you ever since I stumbled across factorio and I have to say katrine thanks alot for your uploads it really fills me up with positivity and calms me down and makes my day alot better especially since life is a bit hard now so thanks it really means alot to me and uve helped me relax through some stressful times keep it up and I hope u feel better and get cured very soon
Thanks so much! II wish you well
One thought with regards to your building is that you are building right on a hillside. If you place a flat roofed building right next to the hill, you can then build directly on top of it, conserving ground space. While this might not matter as much in the dry area, it lets you save that valuable fertile land when building in such areas. As an example, you could have built the forester hut on top of the food storage warehouse.
If you reduce your working hours, you can reduce consumption of your supplies. This should help if you're ever struggling during a drought.
The amounts on the warehouse items is just for setting how much this warehouse requests to have moved into it to keep a minimum level, however, clearing the checkbox DOES prohibit more of that resource from being stored there, but won't forceably remove that item unless another warehouse is requesting it and has spare room. The number setting doesn't limit how many of that resource can be in it. If you are going to be doing a bunch of blasting you can put a warehouse near the blasting area and set it to request all the dynamite to be stored there, for faster setting up the explosives, or you can set minimum food levels on distant warehouses for efficient food distribution to cut down hungry beaver travel time, as worker beavers can haul more that one item at a time.
I'm aware they won't take stuff away unless I choose to Empty the warehouse. As far as Limit goes: it's worked for me so far... but you are definitely correct. I've written a suggestion on the Mechanistry forums to hopefully get this changed... oof.
I delete the path in front of the unfinished warehouse. If it is not connected to the road network they won't place items inside.
@@AmonomousIX That is an extremely excellent idea! *Forehead Slap!*
@@Hawkido welcome. Took me awhile to think of that myself. Many a stocked full warehouse of things I didn't want as well.
Yay timberborn, there's a pause button at the top of the window.
The two story house is meant for the cliff edge. You can build it in a lower level but still access it on the level you're building.
I would have build a dam across the river before the wheel for power. The wheel is a nice building to have during drought but not strictly necessary.
Nice to see a planned out game play 😆 watching skyestorm play is stressful. Everything he build is randomly placed lol.
Based on your work force I don't think its a good idea to build a second water pump unless you plan on decommissioning(pause) one of the pumps in the south until you have more beavers. If you build a hauling station and a tank up north you can save yourself from needing another worker to pump water plus a dam*. The dam youre currently building is lower than the planned water pump and the river upstream will still dry up during the dry season.
Yeah, the pause button is quite confusing in that UI. That pause is for production. Wish the construction button didn't share the same button. Nor can you pause construction from the Priority selector tool. hopefully the devs will change this aspect of the UI.
@@KatherineOfSky You can hit the tilde button for pause. Unintuitive, but it works.
The two story lodges can go in water. They don't count as flooded unless the second story entrance is underwater!
No, that's not explained in the game at all.
@@joshuashorenstein5552 you are a gentlemen and a scholar
FYI: from the link above, the (early access) game is -10% until 9/22/2021 at 11:00 AM
Please get better, Katherine... "the drones need you; they look up to you."
(Bonus points for the 1st person who identifies that reference)
Aww, thank you!
Sid Meir's Alpha Centauri reference? Beavers playing with mind worms - that's quite the mash-up.
The drones comment is either Dyson Sphere Program or Surviving Mars, I think. It's been a while since I've seen that line!
@@julianb4157 Ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner! :)
It's from the "quit game" prompt on surviving mars. But did surviving mars get it from alpha centauri then?
I really like watching you play because not only you explain what you are doing you also explain why.
Timberborn is the game I want most, but can''t afford for now, so I love to see at least some game play of it, thanks for that. :D
Enjoy the videos!
I love how the path's highlight green-red indicating the active buildings pathing, as well as the blue highlights for resource interaction.
A Builders hut doesn't extend your range, it's 70 'travelled tiles' from the district centre, all the builders hut does is employ more builders.....
The more direct a path from the district centre to your location, the better, because going 5 left, 5 down, and 5 right only puts you 5 tiles below the centre, but travelled 15 blocks...
I like both tribes for different reasons. The Folktails are easy to build a population with because all you need is enough food, water and housing. The Iron Teeth have better log storage, since it's stackable.
12:33 "I wish there was a pause button" (for construction)...Um...Katherine...look in your construction window...above the priorities bar...all the way up...there it is: PAUSE / PLAY!! Took me about 20 hours playing before I saw it too! LOVE YOU! Never stop doing what you do!
I found you because I wanted some Factorio tips, I’m staying for stuff like this. You got yourself a subscription Katherine.
Glad you are enjoying all the beaver stories :D
@@KatherineOfSky I may seriously just get this game next time I can just because I am now deeply fascinated by this game after watching this one video.
I wasn´t sure about buying the game, but after I saw your videos of the beta I immediately bought the game and subscribed to your channel and I love it. I currently play the Ironteeth on the same map and found out they can easily work for 20 hours, which helps a lot. And of course I hope you get well soon.
Been contemplating buying this game for a while now but hadn't found any good gameplay videos until I found this one today. Thank you so much for giving me a great starter video to kinda learn from. You've talked me into buying it! I'll be using your Creator Code as well. Happy Holidays!
Thank you so much for your support! I hope you enjoy the series -- we now have three all together, and in the latest, we are working on a community lore project, each person "passing on notes" detailing their favorite beaver's activities in the colony. I hope you'll join in!
I literally pulled up your channel an hour ago looking for this video. Glad to see you play it.
stairs might not make the world go round, but they sure do put you on a whole other level
Love your work! It’s very analytical and well organized with a beauty to it! I don’t want much RUclips but when I find a RUclips like you or quill18 it makes it so worth it to watch! Thank you!
Thank you so much!
I've been watching alot of timberborn videos since its prerelease. You are by far the most thoughtful so far. I think your my favorite creator for this game.
Wow, thank you!
Welcome back - hope you keep feeling healthier.
The double story house is best placed behind the low house. Stacking is great in this game!
There is a pause button at the top of the priority window. You also don't need to use the Menu priority system at all. After you place a building, click on it and a window will open with priority settings and pause options.
If you do that, you have to do them one by one. Much more convenient to use the menu system to affect multiple buildings.
"Just play and have fun, and it'll all work out, trust me on that" 2 or 3 sentences later "be sure to micromanage priorities, it's REALLY important" =P
Seriously though, this has been the most helpful video on this game I've watched, thanks!
It really depends on the settings you play. But remember, it's OK to fail. I think people want everything perfect the first time, and really doesn't happen with this game. Learning is an iterative process, that I really enjoy that about this title.
@@KatherineOfSky I'm really trying to break into the city building genre, but I have a huge fear of failure and hate the idea of getting the hang of the game like 5 hours in, just to realize I made a vital mistake in the first hour that requires me to start all the way over. I understand that kind of loop comes with the territory with this type of game, but if I can watch someone explain how to set up in the early game, I can move on with much more confidence.
Thanks again!
@@randomwowjunkie I think it is very unlikely that a mistake from the beginning will fail you after 5 hours. No, you will notice mistakes within 10-15 minutes, whether at the beginning or the end of the game.
12:45 There is a pause button at the top of the Water Pump screen. I dont know it that will pause the construction or just the production from it. But since its not built yet... maybe pause construction?
It will pause the construction if it's not built.
Yaaaaay, KoS playing Timberborn! ♥
Love your positive and clearly helpful nature. Glad you showed up in my suggestions and you have my subscription!
Enjoy!
12:30 that play pause button on the top center of the window you are referring to is that pause button you are asking for
Not quite. i would like to continue construction, but start with it paused OR have the option to pause construction.
I'm excited to see you play this, I did get the game on steam however but I'm excited and looking forward to this. Here's to recovery to your normal
Thanks Katherine. You do a good job of explaining at a pace that I can follow. Appreciate you.
Glad it was helpful!
I just bought this game today and played for a couple hours. Looked up videos on youtube and found your channel. So many games that I love you play. I look forward to watching them :D
Welcome back, hope you feel better soon.
Thank you!
When you said “two-story beaver house” I had flashbacks to Megan Mullally in Will and Grace.
Just clicked on this video, fell in love with the voice of the narration! Haven't even seen the actual game play yet.
Awww, thank you!
So happy to see you covering this one, I think it has potential to be a gem.
I'm amazed by the amount of beaver-puns you did not do while playing this game. :)
Just started playing this tonight, and I’m having a blast!
Have fun!
They do have a little pause and play button on the the pop up that tells you about what it is that you are clicked on. They will stop building it if you press pause. And after it is built it still has the same buttons, the pause button will pause it being used and the beavers who were working, became I employed and can move on to a different job.
very nice to hear your happiness and your joy while playing. It gives me a really good feeling for when I play I can hear you talking about how the cute beaver kids can stand up lol. Thanks for the video, it cleared up some confusion for me!
Thank you so much for the nice comment! Really glad to hear you are enjoying the series!
I'm most impressed that beavers generate 50 horsepower just by walking! Beavers of the far future are clearly beyond our ken.
I have seen a couple of people’s vids on this game. And your information style explained a lot more about this game than I thought I knew. Good work.
I just got this game last week and I'm obsessed.
Yeaaa, finally someone who I can watch playing this game.....
I was waiting for it and finally my patient has paid off :-P thx for this video
It honestly sounded like you would just pass out from cuteness-buffer-overflow xD
I love that term!
This is pro only the smartest timberborn player I’ve ever seen
I wish I saw all your gr8 videos before playing Timberborn, i lost about 6 Beavers after the 1st drought! u still had 16! ty
This is amazing! I have been watching a lot of Timberborn and you are absolutely the best one! Amazing explanation of how things work and awesome building of beaver town! Love it. Can't wait to see more.
FYI the double lodge and triple can be built with lower level in water that is why access is on upper level
If you selectively cut instead of clearcutting:
1) Trees will regrow over time if you leave trees scattered around. Seedlings only spawn near existing trees.
2) Large trees do give more wood than young trees in this game, so waiting for the young trees to grow will increase yields.
Thus, I don't assign a big area, but rather I click on specific trees and then remove the harvest area again after they're cut down. This may have changed since the demo though.
High priority - needs to be done fast
Highest priority - needs to be done ASAP!
High-high-high priority - needs to be done yesterday, paaaniiic!!
Relatable xD
I didn't know you were sick all this time! I'm glad you're on the mend!
This game looks like a lot of fun. Less stress of having an ever invading enemy. I hope I can find it on sale soon.
Great video! You can pause structure right at the top of info block for said building.
Yep, I'm aware, but that's not what I'm talking about .... I want to pause employment, but build the building.
@@KatherineOfSky I gotcha! I just recently started in on this game. I really have fun with it! I've started in on your videos for some early tips and tricks. Thank you for making some guides! Keep it up!
I was literally looking your channel yesterday to see if you posted a gameplay of this game. Was hoping to watch you play it, now i can haha. Thanks.
The True Ironborn of beavers. What is dead may never die.
With some delay I watch this and I enjoy it! Thank you Katherine. Wishing you recovery. Greetings from France.
Hello to you! Missed seeing your comments! i hope all is well with you, Stéphane!
"trust your beaver" "also, try not to spit your breakfast all over the screen"
I realy love how much thought you put in your placements of buildings and structures great Video sometimes i like being a bit late on series so i have more to watch at once. ^^
Two story beaver houses made me think about flooding, lol. If housing could exist in light flooding maybe accessing the building while swimming is possible? This game is neat looking, can't wait to see more. :)
You can totally do that, you can even built those houses in the river as long as it is 1 tile deep!
@@ashercortez3237 For serious? I was just guessing, maaaybe estimating... real beaver homes are neat. xD
Which would basically be the exact opposite of what actual beavers do. :D They usually build their entrances under the water level and they build their dams partly to make sure the water level stays always high enough to 'hide' their entrances beneath water and to make them less accesible for predators. But actual beavers also have an aversion against water when they are born and their parents have to throw them into the water again and again so they get used to it. So maybe the beavers in the game just adapted good enough to a life in land, so now they don't longer need to enter water and because of that they can behave according to their natural aversion against water.
@@Kuhmuhnistische_Partei Yes, was thinking the same thing, um, water boarding of youth aside... xD Imagine if flying were the same with birds. Papa/Mama bird gliding down to retrieve their fallen young just to throw them out of a tree again.
"Stop! Stop it! They're already de-he-eeeaad~ 😭 "
-Abraham Lincoln
So glad you're feeling a little better and back with this game. Loved your playthrough of the demo first time around.
On planting, if there is any green on the tile you can plant there, it doesn't have to be fully or mostly green. if you assign a truly dry tile to be planted, they won't waste any time they will just ignore it... the designation will remain, but you can clear it up later once you see they never plant it.
I might make a suggestion to change the look of plantable tiles. The extremes of having a half cracked tile with bright green spouts in part of it is confusing to say the least.
@@KatherineOfSky I would make the suggestion be that the highlight of "fertile" tiles be a different color when dragging your selection across the land. Like infertile tiles would be grey, and fertile would be green.
Reminds me of the Anno games a little bit.
Interesting concept with the beavers though. Great video, thanks for sharing :)
If you're planting birch to get wood fast (usually find it's better to skip birch and go straight to pine myself) then you should at least prioritise them in the forester's hut so they're planted and mature first.
Stairs make the world go round.- KOS 😆
oh man, I was looking for a good experienced game reviewer/pro player to get to this. cant believe you did a video already! Lucky us
Great micro KoS. Thanks for walking us through your thought process!
Oh and hope you feel better!
Thank you!
Great tutorial. Thanks for helping to get me started. Fun game. Cheers.
Have fun!
you can pause individual building construction. when you click on the building the dialog that pops up with the building info has a pause/play button at the top in the middle
Edit: you found out in episode 2 lmao
You're plenty of episodes into the series; but I just wanted to be sure you know there is a pause button for buildings when youre constructing them :). Its right above the building name when you click on it, theres a play/pause button
Anyway, see ya in 10 episodes
I hope the dev or devs adds the option to turn off droughts later on in the coming months. That would be awesome.
I think Easy difficulty is basically that.
Welcome back KOS, hope you're on the mend.
Thank you!
@@KatherineOfSky On the downside your Timberborn series is destroying my work from home productivity! Good work, KOS.
@@jakepeters5301 oh nooooooo! XD
Cant believe my ears. Kat has said dam at least 5 times in this episode omg
Beavers are so much more relaxing to watch than nasty nasty bitters 😂
haha!
She's back!
Wow just descovered your chanel on a recomend, i do like the lenth of the videos, makes it more interesting to watch
I HATE city builder games... but DAM it I'm addicted to this game. So great! Thanks for the awesome tips!
You're welcome! Timberborn is more of a colony builder rather than a city one, maybe that's why it's caught your interest.
@@KatherineOfSky I did not realize there was a difference. Good to know!
Great video and love following along! Hope to see the continuation of this build!
At last! Was waiting for you to play the early access of this 😊
Im well advanced in the game and seeing how we think when we play for the first time is hilarious lol
This isn't my first time.
These beavers do not get to swim! Beavers like swimming! (Also living safely in nice dry dens with underwater entrances!) Beaver rights naow!
They do swim, watch carefully in the next few eps.
Beavers actually have an aversion against water when they are born. Their parents have to throw them into water in the beginning so they get used to it.
@@Kuhmuhnistische_Partei You are thinking of otters. Otters *eat* beavers. Beaver kits can swim from the day they are born, and do so inside the hut, using the submerged entrance as a paddling pool.
Thank you for this video ! 😊🌺
Yay devs that appreciate beaver.
I have been checking every day and waiting for this series.
So happy to see you uploading something on this! Just found it on youtube and looking forward to watching your series!
Hope you enjoy it!
@@KatherineOfSky 1st episode done. great content as usual! Keep up the stellar work!
If you build your dam partially from levees, it takes less resouces. (Needs the science for it first, though.)
You can put the double and triple lodges in the water
12:34 well there is already a pause button just under your eyes on the top of the box ^^ and you mention it on 15:23
And the space bar toggles it.
Weirdly, my big takeaway from this tutorial is that you can pan the camera to get a 2D view from above. I haven't found that on the mac yet.
Awesome content. Good game choices. Your voice is so great, it reminds me of elsepeth.
It's probably been mentioned, but the pause button on a building will also pause it's construction
I'm sorry to hear you are unwell and i hope you'll feel better soon. In the meantime, I'm sending you lots of electronic hugs, maybe they'll help.
I might be wrong. But click on the thing and hit p to pause building while it is not built. Unless that just pauses the workers once its finished.
Also ironteeth simply because the breeding pods had me rolling. Beaver breeding pods! Wat!
Really nice video, you have great voice I enjoy listening to your video thank you I will buy this now hahaha have a great day!
New Serie Beginning? Would love that!
The game should be called Planet of the beavers!. First came humans, then came apes and now beavers!, i think giraffe's will be next, according to Futurama :P
Can't wait until episode 2!
I've found out you need 20 birches with your maple trees (any amount) so that way you won't die early game if you go the Potatoe Empire route.
