    I have car duty at the middle school where I teach and after being frustrated so many times that pointing frantically did no good I bought a set of those air port orange things, a vest, and a mini megaphone. I mean, I have to entertain myself somehow. And it’s amazing how much energy and borderline sass that fit gives you.

    As both a car guy and someone who has had their car damaged by carts people refused to put away, magnet is nothing. They use non-marking, there is no damage from that. If someone put a magnet on my vette I would pretty much not care. If someone did what they did to my camaro when I was in college and slam a cart into my bumper hard enough to gouge the plastic of the bumper? That was much worse than anything a magnet could do, I am 100% pro-cart narcs lol

      I don't put my cart back and I don't feel bad about it. I used to work at a store before I went to college and in all honesty collecting carts was the best task. Way better than stocking shelves or cleaning dust and cleaning supply spills. I got to go outside put on my earbuds and check my txt messages. It didn't bother me one bit when people did that because my boss kept me really busy every second I was on the clock so I didn't care what tasks I had to do unless they were gross or unpleasant and collecting carts was far better than most tasks. TBH the people who care are the people with really expensive cars who are too protective of it. I drive a 4wd that I put plenty of scratches myself on driving through the woods to go camping and exploring if someone's cart hits me who cares. People should treat cars like what the are a tool to take you where you need to go.

    Cart narcs is a segment that “Agent Sebastian” created for the 98.7 LA morning radio show called The Woody Show. He is the only “ cart narc agent” but he does impersonate his coworkers on The Woody Show as other “cart narc agents”. He used to move the carts in front or behind the vehicle to block the lazy bones but a few years ago a lady sued him and he had to switch to just using magnets. He was also featured on the Dr. Phil show where he was unfairly trashed.

    Here in Sweden you need to put in a coin (50c or $1) in a coin lock, wich is attached on the cart in order to use the cart.
    And you only get it back when you retrive the cart.
    If you don't retrive it (wich I've never seen) someone else will and earn the coin.

    I’m not sure if it’s known by many but there’s this theory called the “Shopping Cart Theory”. Essentially, the theory is that if an individual or community returns their cart, they are capable of self governance and do not require the threat of force or social shaming to act accordingly to norms and laws.
    To break it down further; the person who chooses to leave their shopping cart in the lot and not in the corral or back in the store, only follows laws because there is some punishment to breaking them.
    Addendum: this theory doesn’t dictate is someone is good or bad or evil. Just that some people need the threat of force or shame to behave according to the norms and laws of society.

    Here in Germany most supermarkets have shopping carts with chained locks connected to the cart in front:
    Pushing in a coin (usually 50 Cents to 1€ or plastic ones of the same size) unlocks the hook and you can pull out that cart.
    Most people return their carts after shopping to get back the deposit. Similar to the PET bottle deposit.
    But even without such an incentive it should be normal to bring the cart back to where one took it from.

    I have a really nice cart story! Yesterday at a grocery store, I had put all my groceries in my trunk and then was getting my 3 kids all buckled in their car seats when a man walked up to my cart behind my car and said that he would take it for me so I wouldn't have to worry about putting it away. This was not a store employee, just a nice stranger who saw a mom with her hands full and wanted to help. It was so kind!!! I always return my carts, but the only times I haven't are when it's further away than I feel safe leaving my kids alone in the car while it's running (due to extreme cold or heat and needing to turn on the car before putting my kids in it)... I won't risk someone potentially stealing my car with my kids in it. So there are nice people who will even gladly return other people's carts for them 😁.

      Aw that’s so sweet. Thx for sharing. Not a cart story but an overwhelmed mom story: I was driving with my toddler son who was losing his mind. No clue why. So I stopped and parked, got out and opened the door to try to calm him. I was so stressed and just wanted to cry. An older man was walking by and I forget exactly what he said but it was so affirming and understanding I practically melted. This was 8 years ago. I’ll never forget. It’s so easy to be kind.

      Leaving a cart where it doesn't belong BUT where it cannot damage any cars or is easy for an employee to bring back is not the same as being lazy. Just like how being disabled isn't being lazy. depending on your disability since some people can be both.
      I have to do something similar since my disability affects me to where I can't drive large stuff like cars and I haven't been able to afford a motorcycle yet. So I use an electric skateboard and end up having to leave my cart in front of stores often as there isn't usually a safe place to get ready to leave and leave from near cart returns. And I can't really just leave my board unattended due to risk of theft or getting run over by a car.

    • @MadamFoogie
      @MadamFoogie 2 года назад +4

      As an in-home caregiver, I have a number of clients who do that. Sometimes they don't really need to use their walker while shopping, because a cart suffices just as well. A lot of the time, I'll choose to park next to an abandoned cart, just so I don't have to go fetch one from the rack for them. So long as it's close to the entrance, I wouldn't have them walk any more than absolutely necessary. So yeah, there is a tiny silver lining to people being lazy and not putting away their carts.

    • @joshuas637
      @joshuas637 2 года назад +2

      It's really not appropriate. Obviously safety is more important so if you're alone and couldn't get to the corral and back then don't but the space around the disability parking is for wheel chairs.
