One other tip: The space bar toggles between the 2 last used tools, just as it does in the normal Photo-Paint interface. So if you use the Add Detail tool and then the Remove Detail tools - you can then use the space bar to toggle between the 2. I often toggle between the original outline brush and the hand tool when creating the mask and navigating around.
Thank you very much. You literally made me remove picture background from 3 photographs in than 15 minutes. I have been struggling for far too long a time. This video was so helpful. I'm most honoured. Gracias!
You don't need to draw all around the image! You only have to draw an area with the felt pen which reaches the bottom and the right edge. The lines you drew along the bottom and up the right hand side were unnecessary and caused you more work. Once you have finished using the Cutout Lab - save as a clip mask and then apply a Levels Adjustment to the clip mask itself. Highlight Slider expands selection (brings back more details) and shadow slider shrinks selection. Very quick for cleaning up mask
Thank You sir am suffering so much of problems on this work i use to go photoshop and remove backround and importing the the images to corel now in corel itself i can make maximium work thank u so much
Thank you so much for posting this tutorial! I found the information well presented and the instructions very clear and easy to follow. I was referred to this video from, of all places, a subreddit for e-cigarettes, and am looking forward to watching more and learning as much as I can. Thanks again!
I would like to do this for a video segment to Rotoscoping an image of an individual since I've no greenscreen [they did this with the lightsabers in star wars of each frame] to place it onto a green background to make into green screen segment in another program I'm using to make it appear as if it were video taped in green screen. How do I place said video into this software so I can Rotoscope each of the frame properly in sequence?
Thank you so much for sharing this vdo, it is very useful for me. I am Thai from Thailand and I just can't find the corel draw vdo in thai language versions; but there are planty of photoshop ones which I dont know how to use it. Thanks again.
Chris thanks a lot buddy for the help had been looking for this help from quite a long time and finally found one classic method Thanks once again for the detail video
Hi Chris, please explain how the white background appears post editing to replace the checkered transparent background two-tone black and white. I realise this is an old version but I still use it for dealing with parallax building shots.
Not exactly sure, but I remember it doing that kind of thing when I didn't create a background object before editing. JPGs cannot be transparent. Therefore if you edit one without creating a background object first it will erase to white instead of the transparent (checkered). If this is NOT the problem, explain each step you're taking.
I've noticed you left that photo in RGB color mode, is that something you would do for a client? Reason I ask this is that RGB is not for printing purposes?
Štelujem Tange Assuming it was print work yes. Corel can do that upon the Export as well, but I use the preview color mode toggle button (lower right) to make sure it doesn't get too dark or something.
I've been using Photo-Paint 5X for the creation of decals. Once finished with the lab, I use eraser to clean up any extemporaneous artifacts that continue to appear outside of the cutout. What can I do to eliminate these pesky critters. They look like faint boarder lines. Thnks
Mike Prell Hmmm, I am not entirely sure I understand. I've not seen that with cutout lab (it can leave a lot when it has a hard time evaluating the difference of image an BG). I've seen what you describe with something like the Magic Wand especially with gradients. Can you send me the starting image your using and what you're cutting out?
Chris Shockley I've managed to loose your e-mail version of this reply. Part of being old, I guess. Would you kindly resubmit your e-mail address in order that I can send you examples of what I'm talking about? Thanks.
Dear sir thank you for your turtorial. I have a problem when i open my picture in the cutout lab i can use the tools and click on preview but i dont have the buttons with the arrows the reset- ok- cancel- and help buttons are also missing. Can you help me i hope you understand what i mean. Best regards Maria
Most vids were X5, but then I upgraded to X7 when I re-did some. I have just now upgraded to X8 (I do their yearly deal where I get support and all the updates/upgrades included). It's a good deal.
Okay I'll await your reply the most advise I so far gotten was that I should have already used Green Screen [I already know that, but this is from videos I've not done any green screen an want to use segments of in a video sequence] There must be a way of doing this cheaply and accurately. I look forward to your reply soonest thanks for trying to find information on the subject. I'm getting kind of frustrated.
Sorry you didn't get out of this video what you wanted. It is a beginners guide really. Feel free to post your video of a challenging one. Always appreciate seeing what others are able to do.
Greetings Mr. Chris. I do not understand English very well, so do not quite understand what you said after the Shift, can you write to me please what is the key used? cu´s I went to the end, but the bottom has not disappeared Thanks.
That would probably require the Clone Tool and a LOT of patience. I'll play around today if I have time and see if I think I could make a video about doing something like that. I've seen videos on removing glasses from people's faces using Gimp....should be similar to that.
When i open the picture with "edit bitmap" i get a new window Photo-paint, so far so good but when i click the image button i don't have a "cutout lab" button. Also the image menu is much smaller then i see in youre video.

Did you click / select your object and CONVERT it to a Bitmap first? IE: sometimes when you bring in a photo or graphic, Corel wants you to you "convert to bitmap" (yes, a photo is a bitmap, but Corel needs to do something to it) so you gain access to it's internal bitmap editing features. The other possibility is that your system is not setup with Corel Photo Paint as the default editor. To fix this, try searching the Corel Draw forum on that. It's been too long sine I had to do that and cannot remember the specifics, but Corel Photo Paint is the editor Corel Draw uses to edit bitmaps
+Pryzm the Dragon Either from Corel (you can pay for a subscription for the latest version instead of buying it) OR hit up EBay if you want an older copy.
Wow, that's pretty advanced stuff....never done any video editing as such. Am not sure Corel is used for that. Going to have to hit up the Corel Forums for that one.
Hmmm, not sure. When in Editing a photo, try hitting 'A' to add or 'R' to remove. Is it a commercial version or bootlegged? Also, I'm assuming your Photo Paint is same version as Corel (IE: not installed separately)?
Sounds like you might need to reset it. Try this - corel.force.com/index/articles/en_US/Master_Article/000006677-Resetting-Application-Defaults-in-CorelDRAW-and-PHOTO-PAINT-Running-on-Windows
I have a problem .. I want to put the picture that i removed from backround, in another backround ..the problem is that the picture is going behind the backround and i cannot see it... i just see the backround and the picture is hidden behind... i know it is simple but cant find a solution ... please help me ..
zissis bagios Sounds like the "ordering". Can you see it in the Object Manager? Click and drag it Above the BG. Option 2, click on the BG and Select Ordering-->Move Back until the layer you just pasted shows. Corel puts newly created layers at the top most level so ordering is used to arrange things as you need.
Simple and easy to follow. Perfect refresher for someone who hasn't used the program in a while and needs a shove in the right direction. Thank you!

infact,Almighty God will elevate you

Sooooo much better than cutting elements out by hand: you, Sir, are a life-saver (cuz time IS life and life IS time).
This is it...and awesome...Mr Chris...I feel it's faster working in CDR to remove background than PSD
@zaidmujahid It has something to do with Photopaint not being your default photo/bitmap editing software. Check out the Core forum for more about it.
You don't need to draw all around the image! You only have to draw an area with the felt pen which reaches the bottom and the right edge. The lines you drew along the bottom and up the right hand side were unnecessary and caused you more work.

I've noticed you left that photo in RGB color mode, is that something you would do for a client? Reason I ask this is that RGB is not for printing purposes?
That is a demo photo of me.
Chris Shockley You would convert it to CMYK if it was an actual job?
Štelujem Tange
