Diodes are tied together circuit wise in groups of 2 or 3... which ends up with warning lights being produced with 3 diodes, like a Whelen TIR3, 2x2 for 4 diodes such as our SNGL1 and 3x3 for 6 diodes to be internally tied together. The micro processor(s) within the lights are what provides the patterns are different display modes. Of course this changes further with dual and tri-color lights; the diodes will then be set up accordingly.

Why do modules always have 6 leds? Every brand does 6 leds of one color per module. What is so special about 6?

I learned recently about COB led layouts. Is it the same rules for COB? I wonder if they will be the next thing for law enforcement lighting.
