Plymouth to Looe Cornwall By Transport Cornwall Bus in June. Transport for Cornwall is part of City bus Plymouth. It was a great day out to Looe on 22nd June 2023. The bus ran late, with no explanation, and an of handed driver when he eventually turned up. There were people visiting the area from Australia, and waiting for a day out in Looe. I had great meetings with fine people. After visiting the town. I explored for the first time. The upper coastal path heading East. And spent time relaxing on the beach. Before heading back for my return bus to Plymouth at 4 pm which was on time. Good old 72 bus. A reformed drug user, alcoholic that had been in Prison and now a born again Christian walked up to me and tried to give me his views. Whoops. I mist a bus. Looe History
Archaeological evidence indicates that the area around Looe has been inhabited since the Neolithic period (although a possible series of ancient field systems, south of nearby Penarthtown, could suggest earlier Palaeolithic activity).[6] A Neolithic stone axe, made of greenstone, was found in 1978 on a tidal gravel bank in the bed of West Looe River.[7] Further Neolithic finds, such as flint arrow heads, have also been found in the fields above Trenant Point.[8] Furthermore, the site of a large perfect Bronze Age tumulus and most likely the site for a post medieval beacon[9] was located in a field just north of Hillcrest Nursing home in East Looe. Unfortunately, some time after 1823 the site was levelled,[9] thus leaving no trace of the large barrow to be seen today. Additional tumuli have also been noted in the area of Looe, such as at the locally known Wooldown field[10] and at the base of Shutta hill,[11] however neither of the tumuli are visible today. Throughout the Looe area, there are also numerous Iron Age and Romano British forts. These include the nearby forts/settlements near Trelawne and Great Tree.
