Pastor David's text, from the beginning of Genesis, chapter 18, tells of Abraham’s extravagant hospitality toward three mysterious guests who showed up at his campsite one hot, sunny day. The call to show hospitality is fundamentally about extending our circles of belonging. Who is worthy of our attention? As we read further, God extends his "hospitality" to Abraham and his wife Sarah. Although advanced in age, she is promised a son "in due season." Nothing is too wonderful or too difficult for the Lord. Could he call us, as he called Sarah and Abraham, to be part of God’s plan to welcome the unlikeliest people into his circle of blessing?
