I am a retired Green Beret and collected cards in the 80s and 90s and stopped when I got too busy. Recently opened up my collection and fell in love with it again and hope to start a business with it.
My dream would be to open a card shop in my area. There are no shops within an hour of where I live. Right now I'm just trying to get something started online. I've collected my whole life and now I'm tired of my 9 to 5 and want something better. So I'm going to dive in and give this a shot!!!
It is good to think about hourly value of your time. Anyone looking to do that, remember that your time value changes based on age and where you are in the world. Someone in CA will have a higher time value than someone in West Virginia. Also remember that you aren't looking at jobs you actually could see yourself taking, but all jobs you would be qualified for and capable of doing even if they are the last thing you would want to do. If most jobs are $10/hr but there is one paying $100/hr you would never want to do, but you could be doing if your forced yourself to, you need to factor that in. Don't try to trick yourself or ignore what you could be making in a regular job as a way of giving yourself an excuse to do what you want to do. You can still choose what you want to do but be honest about what you are doing. Additionally, don't ignore potential. If you could be making $200/hr in 5 years by getting trained/educated, versus still making around $25/hr after dealing cards for 5 years, don't ignore that when making your decision. Be realistic about potential. That said, also remember the 1.3 rule. Using the $25/hr as an example, that would actually be around $19/hr in base pay. If the average hourly job in your area that you could get and would be looking to replace with cards (or something else) is $25/hr, you actually need to pay yourself $32.50/hr to be realistic about the income you have to replace. With the 1.3 rule, the 1 is the $25/hr base hourly wage. The extra 0.3 is the benefits and other costs above basic wages. If you got a job at a company for $25/hr, they would be spending around $32.50/hr total once everything was figured in. You are a business paying yourself, so make sure you are paying yourself like a business would, with those added costs calculated in to reflect the true wage expense. You should also remember that, at some point in a week, you would be making overtime. If you are doing 60 hours per week, you should be considering that tradeoff when deciding if what you want to do is really worth not doing what you could do.
I would love to open a shop and have a really crazy collection. If I opened a shop I would do breaks and auctions and everything so I could maximize my business. Hope to get a care package one day from you, that would be so cool. But I know there's lots of others that will be picked before my name ever gets pulled

250 revenue sales in just singles and Memorbilia Didn’t calculate leftover as well. Gonna work my end of the year numbers but last year’s results were solid.

My dream is to own a hobby shop and become not only a figure for San Antonio but contribute to the city philanthropically. I am rooted here from college all the way to now in my IT career I would love to build into a store if at all possible, but being able to build a relationship with the Spurs if at all possible would be a dream.
I have a vast collection of over 1500 slabs and a few hundred or more in penny sleeves and top loaders. They are of all kinds of genres. Baseball basketball football soccer f1 golf cartoons marvel/DC wrestling Pokemon dragon ball and more. I also have a decent size comic book collection of graded and raw comics mostly punisher but I have some spectre superman bugs bunny batman. A punisher war machine helmet. I have some small varying sets of cards that I grew up collecting. I eventually one day would like to make a living off of it since I have a lot of orthopedic issues related to years of football in high school and back yard ball. I'm banged up and a regular job would not work out for me. And i look after my grandma and that takes up half my time. Keep up the great work buddy
I love that Oliver North auto !! He was involved in the Iran Arms Scandal. I actually based my senior debate around him and Fawn Hall. It was a epic debate and in the end, I won ! I was so so political back in high school. North was a huge part of my high school years. That really takes me back. The question was, were we giving Iran weapons in return for the safe release of US citizens held captive in Iran. Terry Anderson was the last one freed. We got all of them back safe and sound. Would like to make more than my money back from my PC. Than give cards away to kids. I went to my first card show as a dealer this past Saturday in Stanton, MI, I lost money, but I had a great time. I gave away 2 cards, one to a young girl her favorite pokemon was Squirtle, and then one to a young boy, he picked out the Heatran Vmax. Sold my 1977 Robert Clement and a rookie Jalen Hurts card. I sold more Pokémon than any other items or cards!

I have learned to make profit on purchasing raw cards... Grade them .... and flip. I'd like to go to more shows and trade into cards. Trading is the hardest to do when not at shows. I'm also looking to buy sell trade collections.
I got inventory galore mostly 22/23 baseball, basketball, football, soccer, pokemon, ugi-oh, single cards in hard cases or top in top loaders all parallels or plus...relics autographed etc. I'm talking about a few thousand. Like 6 binders and a few hobby and mega boxes few graded few jerseys kobe Bryant autographed basketball but have no clue how to market it?
I reached out to you before. You replied with a sincere response. Not sure if you remember... but i really feel you should let people know that you live at home. I know there was a small stint where you had your own place, but too many people watch content from young people like you, see what you have done and figure oh it looks easy. He is everywhere etc.... although 250k at home is still amazing, i feel that number would have been substantially lower had you lived on your own. Not saying it cant be done, but i just hate people getting burned because they thought it was easier than it is....Not trying to kick you in the nuts, i know you mean well, but i think that would be a good idea to maybe do a video on it. I pay monthly rent so matter what. When i was in LA $3500 a month for 3 months, then i did our summer tour which was around $11,000 cost, and now im back on the road flight to flight, BUT I pay $1500 a month to rent the room. I don't think it matters. Motivation and grind can happen for anybody, Rappers, Musicians, NBA players came from nothing and make more than I do. Some have it all and make less. Thats an excuse.
@@mojo_sports you had a much different tone the last time I messaged. You admitted you didn't pay anything. I guess that's what happens when you get bigger. I will end with this. It is a grind. It is possible. But I have been not just dealing in cards, but reselling since before you were even a thought to be born. In both reselling and cards I seen people give this illusion of how you can grow a business and a you have to do is grind.... 90% of them did it when they lived at home or had income coming from somewhere else, or a spouse that pays the bills etc....yet none of them mention it. You paying $1500 a month seems odd when I don't even spend that on a 3500sqft 5 bed 4 bath house. I wasn't trying to insult you. Not every kid has the opportunity you had, or have. So when you are flipping singles on your website 2 years ago talking about how hard it is and you hope to make enough money to afford the office to now having a video on how you make 250k a year without a shop just make you wonder..... Consistency in what you tell people will probably reduce the amount of negative stuff people say about you too. I'm not that guy, but I am the guy that remembers. Good luck in a future endeavors

Can you talk a little bit to how you get cards/items at 70% to 80%? That's what I use as my general rule, but it seems like that's what everyone is using and I can never close a deal and everything is overpriced. Last time I tried this the card was the same price as ebay and I tried to get it down to that 80% range and they said no because they were cheaper if you included ebay shipping.
@mojo_sports Ya, I think that would hit on it. I primarily look for $1 boxes for things to flip, but not a single shop around me has any. So when I try to cut a deal on a card, everyone has it marked at full comp and then they refuse to deal because they also bought the card at 80%. So I can't get the card at 80% since they got it at 80%.

Collecting is such a community effort in every aspect.
My dream is to own a hobby shop and become not only a figure for San Antonio but contribute to the city philanthropically. I am rooted here from college all the way to now in my IT career I would love to build into a store if at all possible, but being able to build a relationship with the Spurs if at all possible would be a dream.
Also forgot I would like to gain enough subscribers for my channel to monetize content and share my ripping journey!

I have a vast collection of over 1500 slabs and a few hundred or more in penny sleeves and top loaders. They are of all kinds of genres. Baseball basketball football soccer f1 golf cartoons marvel/DC wrestling Pokemon dragon ball and more. I also have a decent size comic book collection of graded and raw comics mostly punisher but I have some spectre superman bugs bunny batman. A punisher war machine helmet. I have some small varying sets of cards that I grew up collecting. I eventually one day would like to make a living off of it since I have a lot of orthopedic issues related to years of football in high school and back yard ball. I'm banged up and a regular job would not work out for me. And i look after my grandma and that takes up half my time. Keep up the great work buddy
I love that Oliver North auto !! He was involved in the Iran Arms Scandal. I actually based my senior debate around him and Fawn Hall. It was a epic debate and in the end, I won ! I was so so political back in high school. North was a huge part of my high school years. That really takes me back. The question was, were we giving Iran weapons in return for the safe release of US citizens held captive in Iran. Terry Anderson was the last one freed. We got all of them back safe and sound. Would like to make more than my money back from my PC. Than give cards away to kids. I went to my first card show as a dealer this past Saturday in Stanton, MI, I lost money, but I had a great time. I gave away 2 cards, one to a young girl her favorite pokemon was Squirtle, and then one to a young boy, he picked out the Heatran Vmax. Sold my 1977 Robert Clement and a rookie Jalen Hurts card. I sold more Pokémon than any other items or cards!

I have collected for 45 years and only have sold 4 cards. Felt bad and repurchased different copies of same card. Goal is to collect with grandkids in some years down road. Goal is 1 million hall of fame cards from all sports

I have learned to make profit on purchasing raw cards... Grade them .... and flip. I'd like to go to more shows and trade into cards. Trading is the hardest to do when not at shows. I'm also looking to buy sell trade collections.

I got inventory galore mostly 22/23 baseball, basketball, football, soccer, pokemon, ugi-oh, single cards in hard cases or top in top loaders all parallels or plus...relics autographed etc. I'm talking about a few thousand. Like 6 binders and a few hobby and mega boxes few graded few jerseys kobe Bryant autographed basketball but have no clue how to market it?

I reached out to you before. You replied with a sincere response. Not sure if you remember... but i really feel you should let people know that you live at home. I know there was a small stint where you had your own place, but too many people watch content from young people like you, see what you have done and figure oh it looks easy. He is everywhere etc.... although 250k at home is still amazing, i feel that number would have been substantially lower had you lived on your own. Not saying it cant be done, but i just hate people getting burned because they thought it was easier than it is....Not trying to kick you in the nuts, i know you mean well, but i think that would be a good idea to maybe do a video on it. I pay monthly rent so matter what. When i was in LA $3500 a month for 3 months, then i did our summer tour which was around $11,000 cost, and now im back on the road flight to flight, BUT I pay $1500 a month to rent the room.
I don't think it matters. Motivation and grind can happen for anybody, Rappers, Musicians, NBA players came from nothing and make more than I do. Some have it all and make less. Thats an excuse.
@@mojo_sports you had a much different tone the last time I messaged. You admitted you didn't pay anything. I guess that's what happens when you get bigger. I will end with this. It is a grind. It is possible. But I have been not just dealing in cards, but reselling since before you were even a thought to be born. In both reselling and cards I seen people give this illusion of how you can grow a business and a you have to do is grind.... 90% of them did it when they lived at home or had income coming from somewhere else, or a spouse that pays the bills etc....yet none of them mention it. You paying $1500 a month seems odd when I don't even spend that on a 3500sqft 5 bed 4 bath house. I wasn't trying to insult you. Not every kid has the opportunity you had, or have. So when you are flipping singles on your website 2 years ago talking about how hard it is and you hope to make enough money to afford the office to now having a video on how you make 250k a year without a shop just make you wonder.....
Consistency in what you tell people will probably reduce the amount of negative stuff people say about you too. I'm not that guy, but I am the guy that remembers. Good luck in a future endeavors

Can you talk a little bit to how you get cards/items at 70% to 80%? That's what I use as my general rule, but it seems like that's what everyone is using and I can never close a deal and everything is overpriced. Last time I tried this the card was the same price as ebay and I tried to get it down to that 80% range and they said no because they were cheaper if you included ebay shipping.

@mojo_sports Ya, I think that would hit on it. I primarily look for $1 boxes for things to flip, but not a single shop around me has any. So when I try to cut a deal on a card, everyone has it marked at full comp and then they refuse to deal because they also bought the card at 80%. So I can't get the card at 80% since they got it at 80%.

Where do you find the deals for value boxes like the one you showed in the video? Are people approaching you with these or are you finding them on facebook, ebay, instagram?
I usually get local deals, The thing is to develop relationships in the hobby.
