Not necessarily. Low-key high key are more about overall contrast. Low-key is an overall dark frame. High-key os overall very bright frame. You could have a very bight light in either situation, but in low-key you would control that light source with a grid, spot, snoot or something else to prevent it from spilling off the main subject onto the rest of the scene and thereby raising up the brightness of the scene). Hope that helps!
very well prepared and delivered lecture. about the best I have seen in explaining the principles of light and shadow. finally figured out why 18% is half - logarithmically speaking. great job!
Very clear, concise info. Lighting is lighting and it's timeless. I wonder if we should refer to Rembrandt as old school?! Great presenter - such a pleasant humble demeanor. There are other self proclaimed photog teachers I've run across (not here) on RUclips that I just can't bear listening to do to the egos and snarkiness they convey. Thank you for this straight forward presentation.
A Great tutorial video about the relation of light to create depth coming from a great photographer with great experience and super great model, gabby! I guess the word for putting a grid is for "Directional Light"
great session and im super late to discover this im late to the party! I do wonder why Tony set cloudy white balance is it due to those particular bowens light having a colour cast or because RAW shooting it doesnt matter as will be changed later in post?
Thank you for this tutoring, I didn't have any idea about shadows, and I am not a photograph for now, but I love take portrait, and I believe it will help me..
Why aren't models such as Gabby, or is it spelled differently, given full credit? Is this signed away as part of the contract? Otherwise, I learned a lot that I didn't even know I needed to learn. Thanks!
FranktheDachshund A chance of what? A chance with her? I don't expect a chance with her. If you watch any of my videos you will see I travel to where I have a chance with even better looking women.
Tony Corbell is the best lighting instructor I've seen. He really knows his stuff and he presents it well. I think the yellow pocket wizard on the camera is very ugly. It's just tacky looking. Gabbey's kinda cute and she models well.
When taking studio portrait with strobes, shouldn't the goal be to shoot with an F stop much wider as a F2.8? By lowering the intensity of the strobes. Or is this not important because you are creating depth using intensity of light? Therefore to reduce the depth of field is not as important.
+OOrtiz87 Perhaps you are American. Americans seem totally obsessed with this. Europeans wont even notice as this is acceptable and is so much easier to communicate.
Great tutorial in many ways here. Lots of information being imparted. I still wish you hadn't kept saying "Does that make sense" sometimes several times in one minute. That's poor presentation. Since so many aspects are good, it would be great if you fix this in future. Thanks for helping me to improve my pictures!
I personally think he forgot to change the White Balance, to the Right Color Balance, LOL, cloudy is giving him little more warm color in the pictures, oh well...... He can always change it, as long as he is Shooting raw.
you new here? : ) When video is uploaded to youtube, it processes, and while its doing it, it is gradually making all the resolutions available, starting with 144p.
i like old school teaching, as you would learn so much more from it, other than being entertained . He is fantastic!
Helen you are on point. Jokes apart, old school teachers deliver quality lectures than any other.
Well Tony..., you're a legendary and an asset to photography's world. So fluent and informative.
I learned a lot from you. Thanks
You've inspired me. You cover so many things that never are said and it is paramount.
TEACH, MY BROTHER! You are much appreciated, Tony! :)
Probably the best video I’ve seen on lighting
👍
@@PhotoVideoEDU Im am right in saying that the brighter the light source the lower key the photo based on the cameras dynamic range?
Not necessarily. Low-key high key are more about overall contrast.
Low-key is an overall dark frame.
High-key os overall very bright frame.

Richard's World I apologize if you took offense, I didn't mean for that to be a personal attack, just a joke.
This was awesome!
what LENS are you using?
amazing video. I liked it.
Was that black black background? And what were your ISO and shutter speed used on Gabi? Thx. For all you do for newbie ...
He's using a dark blue background. His settings are 1/80th of a second f/9 and ISO 200.
Informative...Thank You!
Bowens is 5600 color, why do you use Cloudy WB and not K5600 in camera?
Good tutorial !
Lagos, Nigeria!!! 😁😎

very good
You moved the model to the right without re metering on the first shot

1:38 i actually laugh
Great shirt.
Nice
Great video, I don't know his relationship to the model but he seems a little too touchy.
