Hundreds of Overworked Horses in the Philippines Have Never Seen a Veterinarian-Until Now

- Taal Volcano, the second most active volcano in the Philippines, is a popular destination for tourists, most of whom opt to ride up its steep slopes on horses-many of whom are lame, exhausted, and undernourished and go without water despite the grueling climb. These horses had never been treated by a veterinarian for illness or injuries, let alone for routine care, but that all changed for many of them when PETA Asia teamed up with International Veterinary Outreach to improve their lives.
Arriving by canoe across a vast lake formed by the volcano's caldera, volunteer veterinarians accompanied PETA Asia onto the island and provided hundreds of horses with emergency treatment for injuries, vital dental and hoof care, vaccinations, parasite prevention, and more. The vets also conducted an informational seminar that has helped owners improve the horses' welfare. While the lives of these horses will remain hard-and neglect is rampant-meeting their most basic health-care needs has gone a long way to reducing their suffering.

I live in Argentina and poor people use horses for colecting waste and garbage in the strets of big cities. There some of them that take really good care of the horses but not all are well educated and the horses sufer that lack off education in abuse and over work.

:'( ugh now im crying again. Please help these horses and any animals please get them out of bad conditions like this. I had to rescue two dogs that werent being fed, left in the 90 degree heat all day with no water. Please just be brave and rescue the animal if you can.

I m from philipine
If you travel in the Philippines, you can see so many stray animals. Not only horses are suffering. I'm a Filipino living in the Philippines and vets in our country are very expensive. Only those who have money can consult a vet. People have no choice but to only let the animals like that and also in some part of provinces here, the poverty is rising. People need more money than animals but still, they are keeping the animals with them even though they can't give them financial needs. But Philippines is still a beautiful and a very hospitable country. I hope people don't give a bad reviews on our country 😊

Guys, what he's trying to say is that if people can't take care of themselves, it's extremely difficult to care for a horse properly. People are also overworked, injured, and in need of assistance. You don't understand that the people there are not like the people here. Over there, unless you have money, you won't be treated. The people who own horses have no choice. If they don't overworked the horse their families will go hungry. To some, that horse is the only source of income.The Philippines is a poor country, they struggle to even maintain themselves, PETA failed to mention the WHY. People don't do this out of hate or neglect, they do it out of desperation. If we cannot help ourselves, why do you expect our animals to be any better off? Stop insulting him. Unless you have lived a life of poverty, shut up. You cannot imagine the horrors that the people of the Philippines go through. I have been there, and I know what I am talking about.

It's not really there fault, do u know how expensive a vet checkup is for a horse? Pretty godanm expensive and by the look of were they were it seems like money was a bit short. And if they were to stop doing that all together everyone would loose money and would not be able to support there families/ lives. It was great that peta was able to help them and take care of them but don't go out saying how horrible the people who owned them were, they simply did not how to to care of a horse and couldn't pay for vet bills.
It's OK if vet checkup is expensive or they don't have money..,, etc.. Can't they even feel the pain in life they r living being right can't they give proper rest to the horse can't they c it's getting hurt.. Will they do the same thing to their own kids no right then y to these beings it's never acceptable.. For one to live shouldn't take someone's life..

These people probably don't have a lot money so it's had for them to take care of anything they probably love there horses but don't have the money for veterinary care for them

@@peta Animals abusing in india almost happening in big shrines temple's in uttarakhand and in Jammu and kashmir like Vaishnav devi , shiv khodi , Kedarnath , Amarnath , yumunotri , and Tungnath .Almost lazy tourist/pilgrims people uses innocent horses for riding to reach on such highest temples and also they get abused by their trainer for tourist/pilgrims riding on them up and down Step and non - stop over loading carriages too. So I request ur team to reach once their to see the innocent animals and kindly help them.Thank you soo much love from India.❤❤

We don't abuse animals in Philippines because cruel is ilegal and because of law:animal welfare act that's show you kill a animal you been arrested by 6 years including video of cruel animals, bestiality, or cook dog that very ilegal,etc

Great work PETA. Now please do something about the Kalesa horses in Manila. I've seen quite a few of them around the tourist areas. They are forced to work all day under the hot sun. I think this industry should be shut down. The streets of Manila are no place for a horse.
