Yeah but the MOP is embedded in garbage Laurel - Laurel and/or Pau Ferro is the reason I sold my Epis - a '58 LE Korina Explorer and Muse SG - both had GREAT neck grinds and looked boss, but BOTH constantly reminded me they didn't feel like my Iommi Gibson SG's butter smooth yet hard fretboard, no hint of sandy or grain feel while bending and sliding. They had to go. But why oh why does my beater Epi SG w/KillPot have a "rosewood" board at $179 that I don't mind? I just don't get it.
Unfortunately, it is not made in Japan, like the Elitist Tak guitars. I suggest seeking out older, Elitist versions which are made in Japan and will give most Gibsons a run for their money. Easy and quick way to tell the difference is the headstock angle, which on Japanese Epiphones can be determined by having the same two screw TRC and the same truss rod adjustment nut as a Gibson. If you are going to buy a Tak Matsumoto, get a real one that is made in Japan. Oh! And if the headstock is really important to you, if you get a Japanese domestic market Epiphone, it will have the Gibson headstock as well. I prefer the export Elitist 'Tombstone' headstock myself.

@@bukwok Oh! Regarding the truss rod... to use a two screw cover and the same type of truss rod as a Gibson, the guitar needs to have the same headstock angle, which regular Epiphones do not have, but the Elitist guitars, and other Japanese Epiphones do have. There are also Japanese made Epiphones with a lacquer finish and a Gibson headstock that are NOT Elitist series, those are even harder to find. And another series of Epiphones that is worth seeking out are those made in Czech Republic at the Bohemia plant. They are also basically individually hand made and very high quality. Considering the quality of the Chinese guitars I've tried recently I think the whole "dismiss an instrument solely based on its country of origin" feels so incredibly dated. I know you hate double cuts, you’ve said as much, Austin but you also said we were going to get a review of the new Les Paul Double Cut Junior. Is that still happening?
I wonder if this is part of a bigger plan by Gibson? Make Epiphone the 'standard' guitar, while Gibsons will become the higher end (eg reissues), all of which have the Murphy Lab aged finish at an added premium?
It appears as if Epiphone still can't get the body binding quite right. More of it should wrap over onto the top. The LP logo is too Yellow, not gold enough. Once you see it, it really can't be unseen.
I do like it's all gold finish, yea the entry level Gibson's are ridiculous prices, so if I need a Les Paul I'm going have to pay for a high end epi, and that's fine but only if it's build and quality represents its price tag, in the past Epiphone were hit and miss, some felt good and others not.
Really liked the clarity of sound. Also, the all gold. Not gonna pay that much for an Epiphone, though. Too many other higher end choices at that price point. Ibanez, Tokai, etc. Just my opinion and I realize that opinions are like bellybuttons… everybody has one…

It sounds pretty great!
Pickups are a little shrill with noticeably absent bottom end. Could be the rig but I don’t generally get that from other guitars you play. I’m usually a treble guy, tone knob on zero. Beautiful guitar but definitely change the pickups. That capacitor kinda feels orange drop which I’m from vast experimentation I must admit I’m a bumblebee guy
I guess they could also have Custom shop reissues with mods, so this could be the R5M.
Hi
Sorry, it says 'Epiphone.'
I wouldn't be caught dead.
Man that thing is clean and beautiful! Very, very tempting, even at $1299, which seems well earned.
Edit: I thought these were made in Japan! 🇯🇵
It appears as if Epiphone still can't get the body binding quite right. More of it should wrap over onto the top. The LP logo is too Yellow, not gold enough. Once you see it, it really can't be unseen.
Evening Troglodytes!!!
Looks fantastic to me.
Also acts as a Joey Landreth sig too
My Joe Bonamassa copper p90 was sent to Australia… in a Tak Matsumoto case………
I do like it's all gold finish, yea the entry level Gibson's are ridiculous prices, so if I need a Les Paul I'm going have to pay for a high end epi, and that's fine but only if it's build and quality represents its price tag, in the past Epiphone were hit and miss, some felt good and others not.
The biggest selling point is the headstock shape...I'll say it
All the headstock in the world doesn't make it something it's not. I prefer epis with the epi headstock because that's what they are....epis.
Those regular old Epiphone headstocks are fugly
Best sounded Epi I’ve ever heard!
That demo playing was rough on the ears, bro…
It's a $1400 Chibson. But cool model.
good vid, been catching up
The goldtop epiphones always look kinda funny compared to Gibson. The color just isn’t quite right
Really liked the clarity of sound. Also, the all gold. Not gonna pay that much for an Epiphone, though. Too many other higher end choices at that price point. Ibanez, Tokai, etc. Just my opinion and I realize that opinions are like bellybuttons… everybody has one…
1:32 he looks like richey sambora
Well I'm speechless
The Horn / cutaway is closer to Gib usa
Erm...where ca i get one of these? Asap please 🎉😂😮❤
This one is available on my website - www.troglysguitarshow.com
✌️
✌️✌️
I like tak matsumoto and b'z
I want this one so bad
It is available used on my website!
Throw the word "Gibson" on the headstock and you'd never know the difference at less than 40% of the price.
$2000 for a guitar you cannot intonate great!!
The guitar cost $1299. He said it and it’s on the tag he showed 5:03
@@csharp57 Plus import and shipping fees.
....I haven't watched for a while....your playing has improved.............
Chinese equivalent Gretschs are about 1/2 the price of these now. Spend your money better people
55 should be P90, tak is a heretic lol
He’s drunk on celebrity power!! lol
Agree, those Pups seem harsh to me
I thought US Burstbucker Pros were smoother than that?! Alnico Vs …
Hmmmm....
Yeah. It's quite nice.
The neck binding looks real but the body binding looks painted on. Same as my £300 es339. That's a let down.
Nice rig
Serial number; 3-4 numbers are production month...
Oh boy, another Gold top!!!? 😂🤣
It's very nice but Red guitars have better tone!
The body carving looks pretty good. Sadly that headstock still pretty ugly.
It's the Gibson headstock.
What about the headstock is ugly? The word Epiphone? It's a Gibson headstock.
It's just the headstock angle that throws people off. Makes them look more blocky because of perspective.
It does not sound like a Gibson.
Sounds like an Epiphone.
Who’s gana pay that for a Epiphone! you Americans crack me up. Here in Australia the Epiphone’s with Gibson shape headstock are $2500 AUD, Dave Grohl & Adam jones models are $2,800 AUD
So... Its a normal les paul!?!?
