  • Stats: 24.1 miles with 4100 feet of elevation gain.
The fifth day might be my favorite leg of the entire week, despite the first half being almost entirely uphill…. It seemed after four grueling days at altitude it was on this day my body finally felt like it was in a groove and the constant soreness and aching finally subsided. On top of feeling much better, I gained confidence in my pacing from the experience on the prior days, leading to little to no “uneasiness” to the task at hand. On top riding high mentally and physically, this was an absolutely breathtaking day of beauty (as I hope the footage shows).
After being bussed in from Nova Guides, Day 5 starts out of Red Cliff, Colorado and starts with an uphill battle on a winding dirt road (the same one that Day 4 ended on). The uphill battle lasts a LONG time as the first 10 miles are entirely uphill. The starting elevation is below 9000 feet and the peak is a little below 12,000 feet. Luckily the climb is consistent , which allows for solid pacing with a mixture of jog and speed walking with trekking poles. After the first aid station and most of the uphill climbing under your belt, the course dives into some single track trails in the woods. From there, the next several miles are spent climbing along a beautiful ridgeline on a single track with a mixture of open fields and some woods sections sprinkled in here and there. These few miles are some of my favorites of the entire week as you get consistently hit with breathtaking views after breathtaking views. Towards the end of that beautiful stretch, around mile 16-17 the course runs along the backside of vail mountain where the single track takes you through wide open meadows with wild flowers in full bloom. In the backdrop there’s a vasat mountain range with some of the larger peaks still sporting spots of snow. 19 miles in, the 3rd and final aid station awaits with signs of the ski town of Vail becoming more apparent. After loading up on fuel and topping off on fluids, the courses passes a major gondola and heads down the front side of Vail mountain, where my LEAST favorite part of the day begins. The last 4-5 miles are all downhill, which makes for quite the speedy finish, but are quite grueling on the legs especially after the 4100 feet of elevation gain conquered earlier that day. It all becomes quite worth it because finishing up through town is quite a surreal experience and a great wrapup to an unreal day.

Just watched your ridge wallet review from 2 years ago! Any chance you have the same wallet and would do another as a 4 year review?

Hey thanks for reaching out. I've actually not used the ridge that much as i've tried out a ton of other wallets for the purpose of this channel.. Some of which, like the groove life, I have enjoyed more than the ridge... I know this doesn't help, but won't be able to do a longer term review
