  • Mangoes will grow in Sydney. You don’t need a dwarf variety. The cooler temperatures in winter stop them from growing much bigger than 5-6 metres in 20 years. Bowen Mango is the best variety. This is synonymous with Kensington Pride.
Plant your tree on a mound of IGC Planting Compost improved soil for best results. Mulch around the base with Tim’s Termite Resistant Mulch. Never fertilise newly planted trees.

They're very lucky in Manly to have a subtropical climate. It's a lot harder in the Hills shire for example where we regularly hit -2C during our winters.

Good tip. Pick them green to avoid fruit flies.

I did this in Autumn & I was so shocked that it actually took root, although mine was a small branch from seed grown about 1 year old, I intentionally broke the branch off to keep the tree neat & stuck it in the ground out of curiosity about 40cm away from the original plant & it's still alive its been 1-2 months the leaves are still soft & green.
