Look up squatch 253 on you tube he has forgotten more about d2s than most people ever would know. Pretty sure he will help. If not sure he would know where to send you
Get an operator's manual. 2 thou is a good price..............maybe Recommend change ALL the fluids. You won't find anywhere that the ignition wirres on a mag need to be copper core, not resistance.
Aaaannnnd, if anyone can fix it..you can! After you finish the house..I wish you would do a restore on it. You could take it to every county fair in the state! You cant help but love it..it's cute. I can't wait to hear what HER name is.
I have just reinstalled starting motor on my D2 5U 3369 will start it next week! I have tow started main engine but always tow in fifth gear to minimize strain on clutch!! I towed with compression released and when everything is spinning flip compression with a piece of rope. Clutch is pure fiber and splines can strip easily!!!! My D2 came to farm 1949 and I am second owner
Good luck fella! D2 5U is a great little shit scratchier, had seven of them going and wrecked a few too. Small excavators do most of its job these days.
Well I hope you know what you got your self into ! Speaking only that I have 4 of them! They b old but runs better than the new 1s and cost of owning heavy equipment there are prices to b paid for parts. !!! Seriously go to acmoc website and someone should be able to make suggestions on fixing and finding parts . I wanted to see it run !!
D 2 7 U seat was moved up and back for more leg room and a removable coupler on trans input shaft so ciutch disk could be replaced without splitting tractor!
@@daleholmgren8385 interesting, my 5U has the longer bell housing and coupler. That change came in at 5U13237, I believe. The 3J and 5J came out in 1938, I believe the 4U and 5U came out around 1947. Main difference was the more powerful engine from D3400, to D311. Have not seen any info online about a D2 7U series. The D2 and D4 are very similar and share a lot of the same parts. My 5U has D2 stamped on the radiator, but D4 decal on the fuel tank. Both the D2 and D4 were produced during the period of 1938 to 1957, which is the time frame for the D2 production. Very likely there are mixed parts on this machine from a D2 and a D4. Engine and chassis could have different S/N. would need to know all the markings, and possibly date codes from some parts to determine what is what. Could be a mix of D2 parts and D4 parts, some from 1952, and some from 1954. Without knowing the history, might be hard to tell. Squat challenge 253, could probably help out better than I could if that is the case.
Go watch Squach253 he just rebuilt a Cat D2. He could write manuals for Caterpillar. Looking at the number of loose, new, or missing bolts, screws, nuts. Some half- A mechanic worked on it.
Looks to me they started pull the pony apart to fix it and quit. Might be a good idea to pull the pony and go through the whole thing. Unless you have seen it running, no telling what the problem might be. That fuel pressure gauge is not standard, should have red and green marks for good and low pressure. Will do the job, if you know what the pressure is supposed to be. I don’t think the hour meter is supposed to have oil in it. Might be a leaking seal, or worse.
Jensales is a good place to find all’s sorts of antique manuals and some parts, paint and decals. Florin tractor has lots of new old parts. Squatch gets lots from them. Many places have good used non wearable parts. I am still looking to get a good price on main clutch plates and disc, new or used. Mine is at the bare minimum or near it, not much adjustment left.
Great little machines. To all the ney sayers look into history of ww 1 and ww 2 these small dozers built airfields and roads all over the war torn world! Go Cat D2 and D 4 ! Unsung heroes of freedom ! Seabees and army corps of engineers !
I have no inside to move it to unfortunately. :/ Hurricane Hugo took out our barn and farm buildings back in 1989. Never rebuilt them. A nice shop or even a pole barn would be a luxury for working on the farm equipment, cars, and trucks.

Looking forward to following this build/semi-restoration. Keep it up!
Glad I found you... It's the one upside to the Subaru's high oil consumption.

I'm a amazed it still starts. They sure built them to last back then.
They could do the same thing today but sadly planned obsolescence is a major problem now.
Built tough as nails.

Nice! 👍🏻
I have a 1949 D2 5U also. It has an 8 foot blade and rippers in the rear. Still getting the job done.

Thanks!
I thought 7U was a D4. My 55 D2 is a 5U.
@@johnwythe1409 D2 was in 3 series 4U, 5U and 7U not sure of dates introduced Earlier J series D2

Remember we built some of finest machines know to man !!! Afer over 100 years cat is still in business!!! . Not Subaru!!!
Why are you yelling? Why mention Subaru in your comment?
Basically a total rebuild.
Nice lawn ornament.
No follow up video? 🥺

Where did you find the manuals for it?
Extensive online searching. Haha

most all parts you can get from cat.
Having trouble sourcing parts for the pony.
