yo I ain’t Taiwanese but I studied Chinese for 10+ years okay so from what I can tell, the subs are accurate so don’t worry about them. The story is (from my interpretation) a father who is haunted by his daughter’s death. She has some lung thoracic issues (which may have been caused by the drowning Cory mentioned towards the end? Or she drowned because she couldn’t sing) so she can’t sing anymore and can no longer fulfill her dreams of being a superstar like her mum (thus the static pause before she actually performs in the show). The protagonist of the game is trapped in a sort of time loop within the same setting as he explores and tries to confront the nightmare fuel-ish situations of his life. From marrying and moving in with his successful talented actress wife (1980), to celebrating his daughter’s bday (1986), to his daughter’s lung issue (1985). By putting all the scattered important pieces of his memory back, it’s causing him pain to recall (thus the effects). And the bday scene in particular, the piano and songbook shows her passion for music and her desire to become a famous musician/singer. The ballerina on the cake that was twisted grotesquely represents how she will never fulfill that dream of hers. Mei Shin’s doll (or you can pronounce the “Shin” as “seen” in your own accent) may be a physical representation of herself, her in surgery with all the needles. Also the reason why the protagonist isn’t seen in all the photos is because he is ashamed of himself. In Chinese there’s a term called “丢脸” which directly translates to “lose face” meaning to be embarrassed or ashamed of oneself. So he portrays that emotion he’s feeling onto the photos he sees in his nightmare loops. As for the mum, she seems to be a bit more of a mystery at least to me so other Samurai bros and sisters feel free to share what y’all think!! ps the man and woman in the 1986 scene look like puppets/dolls especially with the woman’s makeup. (it’s very traditional Chinese opera stage makeup) They’re not as lively or human-like even so idk it’s probably an art style to convey that some segments of the nightmare are less real than others 🤷🏻♀️ Fun fact! Koreans also have the same culture whereby during their kids’ 1st bday or 100 days (i forgot) they leave certain objects out for the kid to pick. I think the final drowning scene might just be the protagonist drowning in his thoughts and grief rather than being related to the daughter as he may be trying to take his own life.

Here are some things I noted: In mandarin the number 4 sounds like the word "death", and the number 9 sounds like the word "long", so the number 9 is associated with longevity and long life. Both numbers were next to the birthday cake at around 15:30. Towards the end of the video when the protagonist is drowning and is looking past the picture, there is a golden statue. That statue is one of the Buddhas, I'm not sure which one, and depending on the Buddha it could have different meanings. Also at some point during the game when you're walking from one home to the other same home, on the hallway wall writes "open your eyes." Around 8:25 you can hear Li Fang saying "this place is like home." In the very beginning when the red heel and red umbrella was shown I thought of a particular kind of evil spirit in Asia. If a female suicides wearing something red, they become 厲鬼, which is a very vengeful, hateful and scary ghost. At 22:18 the notes stuck on the wall and ceiling are seals to basically repel evil spirits. That is all from this Taiwanese Samurai who should know more about Taiwanese culture but I've been away from Taiwan too long lol Can't wait for part 2!

The mom gave up her job to a housewife, and the main character father is a writer that only cares about his and Mei Shin's reputation. The family put lots of stress to Mei Shin to try to let her become a star. However, the stress and the lost made the daughter sick, not a lung problem, but a mental problem. The father took her to "teacher" He, instead of taking her to a hospital. Li Fang also left him because of this. The teacher told the father to put Mei Shin in the bath with snake wine and locked the door to try to heal her, and the father did it. During this "treatment", Mei Shin did not feel so gud(maybe because the snake was alive and bite her), but she didnt tell her father because she trusted her father. And when her father finally opened the door, everything is too late, the daughter died forever

Hello to provide some context the game's setting is Taiwan in the 80s. The story is basically a normal married couple who has a very sick daughter. In hope to cure their daughter's sickness, the father started worship some sort of entity ("pretended god" but it's actually some random demon ghost), thus bringing all the scary stuff to the household. I think that's about it, please correct me if I'm wrong.
I swear he be overdramatic I even waste some drink on me because he screamed so loud it scared me more then the actual jump scare and I wasnt even scared at that lol I luv coryxkenshin I know I ain't the only one...right?
The story in short: the daughter is sick (mentally ill causes the physical health problems) because of the pressure from her parents. The father brings her to hospital but she is not getting better. So the father seeks help from the cult, which is popular at that time and region, and that is how the tragedy of this family begins. Where is the family? answer is all died because of the father's ego (also called "Mian Zi" in Chinese) and his belief in cult.

Hi Cory, I just wanted to tell you I've been going through some rough times. My grandpa has been in the hospital diagnose with lung cancer for about 8 months now he's final cured but then we found out he had bloodcaults one night scared me I had to call my family to come take him to the hospital. Now he has hemroids which I have to constantly take care of him not being able to sleep at night. Besides the point I've watch your videos and it helps me relieve stress. I've been getting bullied at school but I can't tell my parents because ill be embarrassed and get made fun of. I have a horrible dad but a pretty good mom that I both love but some many bullies at my school call me names embarrass me in front of girlfriend and my best friends its annoying. But i just want to say thank you for help me from my rough times.

The girl who jump scared you the first time was probably his daughter. He probably is fighting the fact the she’s dead and being taunted by her ghostly presence

Hi Cory, I just wanted to tell you I've been going through some rough times. My grandpa has been in the hospital diagnose with lung cancer for about 8 months now he's final cured but then we found out he had bloodcaults one night scared me I had to call my family to come take him to the hospital. Now he has hemroids which I have to constantly take care of him not being able to sleep at night. Besides the point I've watch your videos and it helps me relieve stress. I've been getting bullied at school but I can't tell my parents because ill be embarrassed and get made fun of. I have a horrible dad but a pretty good mom that I both love but some many bullies at my school call me names embarrass me in front of girlfriend and my best friends its annoying. But i just want to say thank you for help me from my rough times.
