  • CHITRAM VASTRAM, an interdisciplinary exhibition establishing a context between three disciplines - Jain religion, manuscript paintings and textiles as material culture was inaugurated today, by Prof. B.N. Goswamy and in the presence of Director General, National Museum, Madam Lily Pandeya.
On view are the never seen before, richly illustrated folios of Jain manuscripts along with various textiles such as hand block printing, indigo dyeing, dabu, ajrakh, bandhani, patola, ikat, mashru, phulkari embroidery. These textiles are contributed by practicing and award-winning master craftspeople, designers and artists. The exhibition is a testimony to the continuity and viability of these centuries old textile practices in India that continue to thrive even today.
This was followed by a day-long symposium.
