Remember that your arms and legs work together. Faster arms, bigger arm movements can help get you going faster. Conversely you can control your speed by slowing them down.
I've noticed incredible long distance performance by doing 3K sprints. In other words running 3K as fast as I can every other day increased my cruising speed. By cruising speed I mean where running is effortless and the pace you fall back into when not pushing yourself.
Polarizing my running training is what really brought my running to the next level. I don't even do tempo runs anymore lol :D (maybe one tempo run every two to three weeks). Slow aerobic runs + some insanely hard intervals = all you need imho
Good stuff! I am pretty bad at running. I really find it hard to get my heartrate below Zone 3. Even though my racetimes arent that bad I really struggle with running slow. I almost feel like I am running on the same spot and it becomes more of a jogging than a running. As I slow down my technique also gets worse and worse. What can I do?
K LQC monitor your breathing. Breath control is a good indicator of exertion. Don't worry, running slower is meant to feel just that; slower. I struggle with it too lol
It's interesting that someone who stresses the importance of glutes has, well, apparently very small glutes. I started training archer squats about 3 months ago-moving under a waist-high railing at the track to prevent inadvertent cheating-and noticed a dramatic improvement (and growth) within just a few weeks. Recommended: archers hit the gluteus maximus, medius and minimus like nobody's business. That was a painful progression but worth it!
"I don't always run as steady as I should". I can vouch for that, at the BMC-Vifit Sport training camp in Mallorca early this month we were supposed to do a fasted session at 6:30 in the morning. Emma took off, never to be seen again :D. Might have been a slow session for her though, but it looked super fast.
running is my weakest, but i am still fat, i am 95 kg, and height 172, before two years i was 114kg, i believe i need one year to loose all the weight..... i am doing 1 hour swimming 1 hour jogging and 2 hour cyclist..
Hey, guys I've always thought gym work was for people who wanted to build massive muscles and discarded it because runners don't want to bulk up so much. But with these tips I see that thats not quite true. What are good excersises to do in the gym if you want to get faster running?
Split squats with proper technique at 80/90%% max weight (from 3 to 5 reps in such a way you could not do the next) 2 to 4 minutes rest is for me the go to gym task
Question: for your long slow run do you stick to a fast cadence? I often naturally keep my cadence very high even on long slow run... but this automatically makes it harder to get a good 'slow pace'
She forgot the tip about being long legged and sub 35 kg/m of height. But seriously, this just reinforces the fact that I need to get my butt in gear (in more ways than one) and get a gait analysis and formal coaching.

In a way true but also going too hard too fast isn't very good either. You will need to build up to that with training and take little steps into that uncomfortable zone. that is the hard part, seen enough runners that injure themselves going at it too hard.
What are your top tips for running faster?
Global Triathlon Network tri harder
Train ;)

Relax your shoulders. High knees with flexed toes. High cadence. Finally, take part in a park run - friendly competition gives you that boost

Do you have a video on exercises to do at the gym for running?
Emma is a rockstar!
Awesome tips, thank you. Not sure what kept me more glued to the screen, the tips or the images with Emma Pallant.
Glad you enjoyed the video!

karbsundance Awesome! Sounds like you have your training sorted
karbsundance same here. Steady long runs and 15-20 minutes hiit sessions mostly.
Good tips. I suppose i should go out for a run? Good stuff!
And use all the new knowledge you have of how to run faster! 😉

6. Jean Claude van Damme just tucked a bit of meat in his running gear and let the dogs run in the movie kickboxer.
Great video, thank you for the tips
👍
New to running. How to start and kind off shoes?
Holy s#1t, I never thought running was so complex. This is alot more to consider when I hit the pavement next 👍 thanks
You're welcome!
when the Olympic medalist is asking somebody how to train running?! :D
Guess it’s back to the gym, definitely guilty of neglecting the posterior chain.
Rockin the hoka elevons, just got me some napali 🤘

Dunno but I got Durex commercial before that one...
P.S. nobody will read that...
Excellent. You know Google advertise to you based on your search history, right?
DAVIDOV GOOSE fuck... so does that mean I should watch more porn or less?
All this knowledge. Awesome
Thanks TheMarcel387!

6:30 min/km is for elite runners almost like walking :P
lars_tri I meant 6:30am ;). Pace was a bit faster of course.
haha completly missunderstood that one :D
Plus sensible work in pace in min/mile ;-) (though that'd still be pedestrian for her!)
never stretch cold

Just keep going, youre on the right way. I am olso overweight and it is a hard fight to lose it
how's it going man? It's been 2 years
Great questions...great answers...quality info- thanks!!!
I like to run with relaxed legs, how you meant to fire glutes.
You do want to be relaxed when you run but you want to make sure your muscles are activated and firing correctly.
Rocket 🚀
How slow is really slow? 65 to 75% of maxHR?

Good core strength is key in my opinion, otherwise your running technique fades away in muscle fatigue

squats and deadlifts low volume high intensity, lunges with weights alternate with jumping lunges and core work.
on 6:06 I almost shit myself until I realize it was done in bicycle an not by runnning
gr8 tips... I must be doing it really wrong as I hate running and am really really bad at it
That couldn't be comfortable stretching on that stone wall! (:
Very interesting, thank you GTN
You're welcome Kevin, glad you found it as interesting as us

Always 180 cadence no matter what pace

Mind over matter increases speed. If you can mentally push through the uncomfortable nature that is getting faster, you will.
Very true Dr Lum! You've got to believe you can do it! 💪
