I had this game when I was a kid and I could never do anything in it because I didn’t really understand it. I see now that it was kind of a total mess, but I still want to play it again. Sound effects are similar to Swashbuckler, which I played a ton. Good stuff!
I remember this one, too many bugs and glitches to really enjoy. Just a couple of years later, Prince of Persia would come out on only slightly better hardware! (it needed 128k)
this was easily one of my favorite games for the 2e. instead of speed runs, try for a different achievement... extinction. that is you have to wipe out all the monsters. it's pretty easy on the first 2-3 levels of difficulty but, it is actually pretty tough on the higher levels. really tough to do without saving on levels 6+
Hint : go to the edge of the staircase going in, the far left of the walkway. Blow a hole in the floor. Drop more charges. 2-3 should do. Now walk off the left side. Boom. You've now dropped to where the idol is and only need to go up. You've cut the time by half.
Newbies of the future think it looks corrupted with these pink, green, and white colored pixeled graphics. But, this is is the standard OK reso back since 80's.
This one looks like a DISASTER. Even for the Apple IIe. Montezuma's Revenge was clean, and even Lady Tut used graphics more intuitively. Geez. Glad I never saw this one in the 80's.
First game I ever remember playing as a kid. I would get all scared when the room would start filling up with water!!
So buggy, quirky and broken...an absolute classic. Along with Montezuma's Revenge, this game defined the games of my youth.
Good memories! This game made me chuckle

This game felt janky even back then but still loved it.

Character graphics and sound effects by whoever also did "Swashbuckler"
No character graphics on the Apple, only framebuffer
@@fluffysheap no I meant the person who programmed the characters for Aztec also did the characters for Swashbuckler. They have the same aesthetic.

The idol at 9:15.
If memory serves, weren't you able to hit control-reset if you died ("You did not make it...") and come back to life?
Is there monster infighting at about 3:45?
This game is so buggy/glitchy I never could get into it. It's like they rushed it out only 2/3 completed.

And the Aztec Warriors are annoying as hell!
