This video features my contribution to the biggest wargaming collaboration to ever happen on RUclips! The building of Minas Tirith, the White City, Capital of Gondor, built to true scale as a gaming board for the Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game. I was conscripted by @Zorpazorp to build a Strategium tower for the project.
The lower level strategium is one of the most iconic structures upon the lampwright street of Minas Tirith and in wartime one of the most significant. This towering spire houses several council chambers where meetings of garrison commanders can be held in a location that is close to the outermost defences of the city itself enabling the Lords in charge to receive precious intel from outriders before they make the long journey up to the citadel.
Close to the second gate, it even affords the Kings and Stewards of Gondor a forward command post in the lowest level if they wish to lead the defence of the White City in person, that can be quickly abandoned, and a safe retreat made to the upper levels should the outer wall become overrun.

@@雪映狐 Sure, here you go :) discord.gg/VkMsJafM
This is stunning man, what an absolute BEASTTTTTTT. The LEDs are jsut *chef's kiss* and now I want the whole city Wired up haha. But it's the build quality that really blows me away, cutting al those angled archways and stuff is craaaaazy. Incredible craft mate.
Thanks so much dude! Most fun I have had on a build... maybe ever! Any future collabs you wanna do, I'm in 100% ;)
A whole city would be quite a lot of wiring!!! But doable! :)
@@TerrainTronics From the master himself!
@@TerrainTronics Let clear our calander for next year Dafydd ;) lol
Can you make a video about how you get away with spamming the same video over and over?
Love it how you just casually film the intro in some ACTUAL ruins. You guys have so much history on that side of the pond readily accessible!
Fantastic vid man! Love the flickering LEDs
Cheers Knarb! Was a pleasure to get to chat and build along with you guys ;)
We may do yes but you have more beautiful art deco
Oh Dude… I got deliriously excited when I saw that reed switch with a magnet in the dome! Very VERY clever use of magnets!
Cheers dude! Are you still in the UK? We briefly mentioned hooking up again soon... we have ideas to discuss. I did get your text by the way and I'm only realising now that I forgot to reply. That idea... very cool!
Came here for crafting and miniatures tips, but now I gotta learn about these tabletop games. RUclips rabbit hole.
haha yes do it!! Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game is very cool indeed :D
Probably my favorite piece of terrain I've ever seen. The amount of detail added is unreal. This goes way beyond a standard gaming piece
Wow! Thank you so much!! I do enjoy bringing as much detail and hopefully realism to the table top as much as I can. Hoping to continue to improve and move on to bigger and better projects :D
12:21 Majestic 👍
Cheers :D
It's wonderful how much the LED brought this to life! It went from "absolutely amazing terrain" to "absolutely amazing terrain that looks real and lived in." Well done!
Thanks! Yeah, this is why I love LED's. They just add instant atmosphere... tons of fun :D
Unbelievable build, it was already stunning prior to adding the LEDs, but to go that extra step further and give it a twist-top activated flickering LEDs is just amazing!
Thanks so much Chris!! Over kill is under rated right ?? lol Thanks for watching dude. Community hang out very soon!!
I think it's wonderful, the LED lights give it an excellent touch.
Thank you so much! LED's are loads of fun :D
A work of art .... and very much patience and talent.
Thanks so much John! I think more patience than talent honestly.... patience wins every time. It just takes ages lol
The amount of precision and skill that went into this makes it so much more impressive then it already was. Beautiful work ❤
Also the little “…. Crap.” When the proxxon wire snapped was chefs kiss. We’ve all been there. Lol
Thank you Zane!! We need to get a hang out in SOON!
Looks amazing. When those flickering lights went on at the twist 👌
Thanks you!! Yeah, have to say it was satisfying to see it light up :D
Really nice build. The stonework and lighting look awesome.
Thanks so much mate !
Daaaaaayyum that lighting set up is incredible! Love it man.
Thank you!! Not as tricky as it looks. I plan to do some tutorials on this stuff in the new year ;)
@@Nat1videos Sweet can't wait to see that

Thank you Tine! Yah, Magnets for the win :D
Amazing work! I’ve been enjoying everyone’s contribution to this monster. Can’t wait to see it all come together!
Thanks Emma! Yeah, such a cool project to be part of. So many cool builds :D
The shape is so satisfying, looks incredible
Thanks!! Kind of hurt my brain to figure out the whole octagon thing lol
Great video Michael!👍👊👌
Thanks Gerard!! Glad you liked it. 2023 I wanna come visit you ;)
Wow! Impressive build. The color scheme and brick work are just out of this world. Fantastic details and the leds I think add so much character to a build. Great job Michael!
Thanks so much Scott! Really appreciate that dude ;)
Just awesome 🤩🤩🤩🤩
Thank you! Cheers!
What a job! The complexity seemed to increase at each stage, the amount of time and planning you’ve put into this is unreal
Thanks buddy! Dude... we have common ground given the land of our birth. We are probably over due a chat and potential collab. Hit me up ;)

Well done.... I almost choked on my lunch during that strength test. Happy it passed 💪
Thanks John!! Yeah man, gladly it turned out pretty sturdy. Really pleased :D
Absolutly awesome! Love the Lighting
Thanks you so much ! Cheers for watching :D
I really loved this building when lachy pulled it out the box.. I couldn't understand how it was built. Now I know! You made it look easy but I'm sure it wasn't. Fantastic work!
Thank you so much! No... not easy, but very doable. Its the maths that is tricky at first. Once you have that sorted its pretty plain sailing ;)
Every time I hear that little "Crap.", it giggles me 😆 Amazing build, Michael. Great video, with you "sneaking" in all the tips and techniques, whilst showing the project. Just brill, mate
Thanks so much bro! haha I can say honestly that crap was one of the milder words I used during this build... I broke that hotwire so many times lol
I did not think you could top your Weathertop diorama, however your craft has progressed so far ahead of what I thought was possible that Weta-Workshops should be calling any minute.
haha now that would be a dream job! I really would love to work in that industry... but like everything it is so competitive. Low number of jobs and really high number of people who want those jobs. And the talent out there is unreal. Thanks so much for watching, especially if you have been sticking around since Weathertop! :D
The detail is incredible!!
Thank you :D
Absolutely fantastic.
Thanks Alan! Really glad you enjoyed it. Thanks so much for watching :)
Your piece was the best, great lighting too.
Thanks so much! Maybe the lights where a cheat..?! lol
This really came out amazing man, the scale you operate on is on just another level. And the led and precise foam work is inspiring
Thanks so much Andurz! Was a pleasure to chat to all you lads during the course of the Collab, I'm sad its over :(
Brilliant work. As a crafter who has scratchbuilt octagonal structures before, I know you speak the truth about the need for precision to avoid incremental errors carrying forward. Greta video!
Thanks so much! Yeah, obviously because I have edited the video to give a quick overview, you don't see just how many times I had to reposition things just to get it all sitting right. Got there in the end though, very pleased. Thanks for watching :D
HAHAHAHAHAHA that castle opening so good
lol Thought you might enjoy that :D
Ah this build is FIRE and it's SOOOOOOOO Robust, you actually can kick it around! We used it for footy yesterday!

Truly and Awe inspiring build from start to finish. One of the best for the whole build.

Absolutely beautiful!!!
Thank you so much!!
Your stuff is always good but this is a landmark piece. Amazing!
Thank you so much! I loved every minute of this build, so glad people like it :D
Bam! Absolutely beautiful build, and it will definitely be one of the sweetest pieces on Lachy's mega table. I really gotta get me a proxon.
Thanks Brad! I can honestly say, whole heartedly... just do it! Get one! It seems like an expence at the time, but it will pay for itself in what it can give back to you in your hobby. Love the proxxon :)
Another stunning build Michael! Gonna have to check out that stone painting tutorial, add some variety to my tabletop color scheme!
Thanks dude!! Yeah, it's a great tutorial. The video has 3 different styles of stone work and they all look great ;)
Stunning work mate!

@@Nat1videos yes ! Great collab !
Amazing piece you did here. Always intrigued by your builds, but the casual way you just added frikking torchlight to an already amazing build….Have a splendid start into your next year…
Thank you mate!! I had so much fun with this one. I may have to focus on something a little smaller in my next few builds, and then gear up for some more epic builds over the next few months ;)
Wow that building is Awesome m8
Thank you so much!! And thanks for watching, I really appreciate it :D
Looks great! Love the aesthetic and those lights are such a good finish. Maybe Isenguard next as you clearly love geometry!!
Thank you!! That indeed would be a fun build... but quite a huge one if I do it at the right scale. Space is an issue... If I had a buyer for it as a commission then I would do it for sure. But that would cost a pretty penny ... so not likely for a while. Then again I could do a small model just for fun
What an amazing build! That brick work is the best that I've ever seen! And the lighting was a brilliant addition! So much detail. This is truly next level and you should be very proud of your work. Just WOW!
Thank you!! I am really pleased how this one turned out. I feel like I actually achieved what I set out to do with the build... thats a good feeling! :D
I'm always impressed and inspired by your work. The lighting was subtle and functional.
Thank you Kim!! More builds coming very soon ;) Also, community hangout soon, keep and eye out on discord for updates !
The zorpazorp build! Woop!

Crazy awesome build. Love it!!
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it :D
Perfection!!!! 😊❤
Thank you so much :D
@@Nat1videos you are welcome 😊
Super awesome build bro, the finished product was completely worth it ehh? Rebuilding the base was a small price to pay. I had a huge piece of my Elemental Mountain build fall from my crafting table, hit my chair, then plummeted to the floor. Ended up having to surgically install a metal spine to keep it from reoccurring, lol Great Vid too biw!
Thanks so much! Yeah, worth all the effort in the end!! Thanks for watching :D
Dude that looks awesome. It's cool to see you involved in the project. I knida want to be involved as well but unsure if Lochy needs 1000 orcs painted in a week 😂😂
Thanks man!! Dude.... who doesn't need 1000 orcs painted in a week?!! lol
Amazing work
Thank you so much ! :D
Nice project. My measly opinion would be to switch the Agrax Earthshade (which costs a fortune) with a burnt-sienna acrylic ink diluted 1:4 parts. It's more cost efficient, versatile and allows for tinting masks should they be required.
Ohhh cool! I'll give that a shot ;)
Neat. Great video.
Thank you ! Glad you enjoyed it :D
Looks like Heide's tower of flame from Dark Souls II.
ohhhh I''ll have to check that out !
@@Nat1videos Please do. The whole series in general has some really good scenery for terrain ideas.
I have been following you for a while now, i am looking forward to seeing this on the Big Build 🤣🤣
Thanks Gary!! Did you watch Zorpazorps video? It's really coming together now :)
I have been seeing his Awesome Vids Nat 1.
Wishing you and the other Crafters a FUN/SAFE '23
so not the biggest, but really really beautiful... full stop
This building is for the biggest wargaming board! Check out the links in the description below the vidoe where you can see the whole project together on the Zorpazorp youtube channel :D Thanks for watching ;)
Who is crazier? The people who build this? Or the people who will play the game with it?
haha !! I think we are all a little bit crazy :D
Epic!
Thank you :D
Always impressed by all the angle cutting that goes into geometric builds like this; I think I'd drive myself crazy with it haha. Definitely had a little cheer of my own when you turned the dome and the lights popped on! Awesome build as always! 😄
Thanks Alli!! Yeah, I am enjoying these shapes! Need some nice interesting stuff to make in the new year :D
Really awesome! It was really cool that you mention terrain Tronics. I have used his products often. - Rick, USMC
Thanks so much :D
This is absolutely stunning. Looks amazing. What was the black foam you were using?
Thank you! It's actually a cheaper brand of XPS foam that I got from Theunderfloorheatingstore.com I got a sheet to try out, not bad but not as nice to work with as the pink stuff
You are a mildly ambitious person.
haha I hope thats a good thing...? lol I do tend to overcomplicate things for myself some times..
I used to be a fan... But after this piece... man, I'm a whole air conditioner...!
haha thanks dude! I like your play on words :D
Holy shit
haha Thanks :)
Again, this build is so amazing. I love your builds with interesting angles! I really think this makes it way more interesting! What kind of foam do you use? I am trying to find the correct kind. Is the color difference in your videos for different types of foam?
Hey, thank you! I use XPS foam... yes the colour difference means the foam has a slightly different density, but it's not massively important. If you are struggling to find XPS foam near you, instead search for Underfloor insulation foam. Thats what it is, and it is often not listed as XPS. Hope that helps ;)
Klasse👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🧙🏼♂️🧝🏼♂️
Thanks so much :D
Such an amazing build. 👏♥️🍻
One question is : which spray adhesive did you use? I know anything spray has a 50-50 shot at melting foam.
(I'll watch the other tutorials you suggested before I ask anything else lol)
Hey Daniel, the spray I use is called 3M Spray Mount. So I don't spray it on to the foam, I spray it on to the card then you leave it for about 20 seconds or so to tack up before putting the card on to the foam. By that point the accelerant in the spray has evaporated so you won't melt the foam. The stuff in spray cans that melts foam is literally the accelerant to make it come out of the can and not the functional part of the glue if that makes sense. But yeah, I wouldn't spray this directly on foam ;)
@@Nat1videos That makes perfect sense, almost all propellants seem hungry for foam. Good advice letting it evaporate before applying. 👍
Now to check out the electronics tutorials, love the magnet on/off. I can see someone using that for a game board, player moves their mini over a tile and it lights up signaling a trap or effect. 👍
Very cool!!
@@DanielRaffetyJr Yep, its been done! Check out table top witch craft, he has a video on traps that is exactly this ;)
@@Nat1videos Going there now to check out out! 👍😁
Question: I’m pretty new to this, and have a Proxxon. I want to make my own jigs/templates. Does regular cardboard actually work? Is it cereal box chip board, package box cardboard, something else? Does it stand up to the hot wire? Are they single-use or reusable?
hey, yes it works! I use cereal box cardboard. And you can use the templates again if you only use a light spray of adhesive to hold it in place on the foam. I have some templates that I have used several times. But at the end of the day, its cardboard so if you only get one use out of it then it's no big deal. Just make sure to spray your adhesive on to the card board not directly on to the foam, then let it sit for 30 seconds before sticking it to the foam. This way the accelerant in the spray adhesive will evaporate and you won't melt your foam ;)
Looks fantastic, I'm inspired to make some sort of a castle wall light, is that a thing?
Where do you get the mesh for the windows from please?
I was actually given that by a friend so I don't have an exact link, but I do know that it is a plastic Needlepoint Canvas for Embroidery Crafting and Knit and Crochet Projects. If you do a google or Amazon search for that you should be able to find what you need ;)
@@Nat1videos Nice, thanks. I should be able to find something like it with that info.
What an amazing build! I seriously love the technique for painting the stonework! I will definitely use this in the future.
Thanks!! Yeah it's a great paint scheme. Link to the original in my description ;)
Absolutely incredible job on this!!
Thanks you so much mate !!
Such an amazing work of art! I think I need to start an apprenticeship under you 😁
Thanks man! Orrrrr you could learn it all here for free on youtube ;)
@@Nat1videos I mean...that's the idea. Just need the space. The time. The fortitude to see a project finished. And we're good to go! 😅 Last time I built scratch terrain was when the battlegames in middle earth mags were out and I made fences from balsa wood and hedge rows with scouring pads 🤣
You sir are god tier level at this point
haha thanks mate! So much more I want to do still...
No, you did not. This build is insane!
Thanks so much Sander!!! And yes... yes I did lol
Amazing! You absolutely nailed it 🙂 and a tower you didn't have to destroy this time too 😅 For Gondor!
Thank you mate ! haha yes, and gladly it also didn't get destroyed in the post :D What are you working on at the minute?
@@Nat1videos I want to do more terrain builds and just so happens for Christmas my parents got me some aquarium pillars and rockworks they got from a charity shop for £1! My dad must have a 6th sense for finding stuff like that 😂
Big build wise, thanks to another Christmas present of a dwarf ballista, I've started drawing out ideas for a Moria battlement built into the rock for a last stand (future battle report) of two dwarves and their balista against an onslaught of goblins! 🙂
You got anymore towers in the works?... Orthaaaanc? 😉
@@ItsQuiteCool Oh yes! Fish tank stuff is often really good for the table top! No actual plans yet... but Orthanc would be an epic build!!
Beautiful work mate on a huge scale too! Fantastic work and wizardry with the light set up 👍
