What I don’t understand is that people on the comments are mentioning that this isn’t a big deal at all and that his crime was victimless. And I agree. And I'm disappointed in the powers that be at M because he hasn't been. But this was not an assault. It wasn't a violent crime in any way shape, or form. To compare it to the violent assault that happened in the Michigan tunnel is ridiculous.
They talk about that in this video and how the guy that swung the helmet definitely got the punishment he deserved. But the other guys that were shoving through the tunnel still had to miss four games. And if you don’t want to compare it to the tunnel incident, then compare it to Emoni Bates. Same exact felony.

- The gun was purchased by Mazi Smith legally - Smith went through all the necessary steps that go into the purchasing process including fingerprinting and applying for the license itself - Smith completed all the necessary training in order to get the license - The sticking point, his application/license was approved days after the arrest so the way he was transporting the gun was considered a "concealed weapon."

What I don’t understand is that people on the comments are mentioning that this isn’t a big deal at all and that his crime was victimless. And I agree. Unless you believe the Michigan narrative that they’re just finding out about this incident now, in which case I don’t really know what to tell you.

Here's how this would have been hypocrisy: Had he taken the gun, and then used the butt of it to hit someone 3 times over the head with it. Now, I think Smith should be suspended for Saturday's game.

Emoji’s case was NOT the same…
1.) The gun he had had the serial number filed off
2.) He was driving a car that wasn’t his
3.) He was arrested (this greatly expedites the filing timeline for charges)
In Mazi’s case:
1.) The gun was legally purchased
2.) He had attended all required CPL safety classes
3.) He had filed his CPL paperwork which was approved shortly after the incident.
4.) He was not arrested which means the decision to charge/prosecute likely sat on a few desks because they weren’t a huge priority and the filing deadline isn’t as strict as if there was an arrest.
