    This is part 1 of 3 on how to build a super low cost (cheap) Chute Blocker / Cover for your lawn mower, zero turn, Ferris. This build was done on a 61 inch Ferris ISX 800. Parts I used are:
    23x8 16g sheet metal, Two steel L brakets, a rivets, and spray paint.
    This build was inspired by a build I saw on RUclips. I have modified mine to fit my needs. I hope you find this useful and it helps you build your own.
    In Part 2 I will show you how I built my opener so I can open and close it when I am mowing.

    Just made on in 20 mins this is the best tutorial ever. Really appreciate this. It looks really professional. I used bolts instead of rivets just to make it alittle more heavy duty. Thank you so much for making this video!

    I made one of these a few years ago to mulch leaves. I used a 2x6" and some lag bolts right through the existing holes. Took like 10 mins.

    Buddy, Please don't take this wrong but I have something I feel compelled to mention. I noticed that you are wearing a hoodie with the draw strings dangling below you when you bend over your work area. When I was a teenager I was working over an exposed moving cog gear and noticed my draw strings bouncing off the spinning teeth. Something I remember to this day. It only takes a second to tuck them in. Nice video.

    Great job. Exactly what I need to do. I called Farris dealer and they said there out of stock and no information about when they would be available again. Wasn't happy about that.

      You are very welcome. Check out Part 3 for the handle build. Part 2 is a handle build but Part 3 had the better handle build. Have fun building your chute blocker, I know I had a blast making this one. I also have a video out there where I made this for my Dad’s Zero turn. It is one of my more recent videos you might check that one out too.

    I like the design, my only suggestion would be to reverse those bolts, sticking up looks unsafe.

    I just have standard blades. Do you need to have mulching blades in order to get mulching action with the shoot down?

      If the leaves are heavy..you will get a blizzard of dust!! Less dust if the leaves are slightly damp.

    I bought one before I discovered your video. My question is would you know why I get a lot of discharge through the front of the deck? First time I used it covered the deck. I don’t have mulching blades just regular ones. Don’t know how to correct the front discharge.

    • @RunBikeMike
      @RunBikeMike  4 года назад

      I have heard that can be a problem. I don’t get a lot of discharge from the one I made but there is a little. If you can find a way to make the seal at the top of the deck and the opener more tight I would think that would help.

    Playing with fire. It's a $150.00 fine in my area if the police see you operating WITHOUT factory chute in place. Little girl lost an eye few years ago. Several large businesses afraid of being sued over who they hire will not let you mow outside of manufacturers guards in place.

    2 years later, any issues? I bought the mulching kit for my is700z but just bolts on so I cannot lift it so I think I'll be making this.

    • @RunBikeMike
      @RunBikeMike  3 года назад +1

      It works well. I found I don’t use it was much as I thought I would but it is nice when needed.

    • @97JoMiller
      @97JoMiller 3 года назад

      @@RunBikeMike I have a feeling that I will use it quite a bit probably in one setting or the other. My yard seems to always be a bit "damp" for the lack of a better term and it seems like my mulching mower just does a better job of dealing with the clumps but there will be times when I'll need to open the chute because it will just be too much for the mower to handle.

    One quick thing. The dealer will want the rubber chute not modified on trade or sell.
